To the western side of the canyon a couple dozen kilometers out is a massive stone monolith. The shape of the stone is triangular, and it is tilted at an angle and faced the correct direction to look just like a massive sundial. It is one of the landmarks in the country.
On another note, the material of the stone is magnetic, messing up compasses.
