Last year's musical, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, had an evil moment. There was a several thousand pound flat on casters that basically covered the whole stage, that is, side to side. Well, one night a caster broke, floor crew had 15 seconds to move it off before the finale (i believe it was the finale) and so they got all the floor crew and many of the big actors to help clear...got it off in 6 seconds....very painful to hear about...
Fortunately, that was a year before my time. ^.^

I totally forgot about the Sound of Music stage with like 10 feet of wing space on one side and 4 feet on another that we had to hide 3 stage crew members, a bed, two trellises, 8 kids, 2 benches, a table, 5 chairs, and a church set. We had no backstage either and were running up and down a bunch of stair for ever entrance. We came from the house. scream That was terrible, but the bed was comfy. We had a costume change in the wing too. xp

Our wheel for Wheel of Justice (Cdn play parodying a mix of Wheel of Fortune and Law & Order, bringing Christopher Columbus on trial, very funny) simply wouldn't stay weighted to land on guilty. Agh, I spent hours adjusting the weights.

Modesty when doing a show is really hard, so I figure why try? It's not like anyone is turned on by eachother back there anyhow.

Mine is in How to succed too. Yeah, I know little cricket, she's on my crew. Imagine an office unit about 20 feet by 12 feet. Three rooms on one platform with wheels. Heavy? Now, have 5 people push it as fast as they can at the curtain guy. Result: one lucky SOB. The curtain pully that was bolted to the ground saved his life and prevented an inconvenient mess. It took Me, Arko (2nd to stage manager) and Tyler (curtain guy) to bend the pully back into place. The corner of the office unit was shattered.

God! I have so many! So once our director (drama teacher:VanEpps) was angry at our lighting crew. So he decided to show them how to hang a light. We had the 16 foot ladder set up so he too a lipsotle (SP) and began climbing. Once again what do you get? Another lucky SOB. A 70 (atleast) year old person while caring a 10 pound light with one hand goes up a ladder is not the best combination. V fell from the 7th rung hit the side of the set (nothing but flats) a piano and a lamp with a very very pointed top. He landed on the ground with his head nearly cracked open and his eyes rolled. He was at the hospital for several weeks and now he stays away from that ladder. PS; We painted over the blood spot. guess where it is sweatdrop

alright, got some new stories from our musica charlie brown: 1: out curtain guy got a 104 fever and spent two days in the ER. 2: VanEpps got a lamp to the head at hobby lobby. He was getting black material to skirt some islands when he bumped into a shelf and knocked a table lamp over and cracked his head open again. This time he got 4 staples. Amazing thing, the bitter old man still came to rehearsal to b***h us out. 3: Our grand curtain fell apart. The rope just got completly loose. 4: Our wrench system supporting out 2nd electrics (where we hang lights) jammed. It took 6 of us on scaffolding lifting the thing while 2 janitors and out curtain guy (before the fevor) forced the cable back in place. 5: A light tree broke. a freaking 12 Foot metal pole just snapped on our openning night. It supported a 5 foot high curtain for the begining of act 2. 6: A castor on a 14 foot, two level wagon broke and got jammed. I had to use a 2X4 to lift it while another techie slipped supports under it. The castor left a huge mark on the stage. 7: A corner castor on our air plane broke right before intermission ended. We had 5 minutes to get it fixed. So we lifted it like we did with the 14 ft wagon. but we forgot the plane was weighted to one side of the 7 foot high wagon. So the thing started tipping so me and Arko just jumped on so it wouldn't crush any actors. 8: A bench broke on our Charlie Brown on the night that we hired a company to video tape it for $1000. Luckly Britt (CB) is a good actor and played it out, saying "Good Grief, why does this always happen to me?"

My 2 WORST incidences were both last semester and this semester.
One: durring Hell Week of CGCC's Production of "The Mikado", (I was in chorus for that show) the director asked for the bagoda to be flown out. Before I had a chance to even touch the line, one of the inexperienced, mornonic actors unlocks it, grabs, and pulls...flying it even more in, behind me I hear creaking, as I grab the line and pull it the correct way it trun to see the 2 pieces of the bagoda at a 90 degree angle! He nearly broke one of the most important sets before opening night! He got an earful from a LOT of people.
Two: The two phrases that should never be said to me in the same breathe ever again! Seussical The Musical and Open With A Blank Stage.

Ah, new one from Little Shop: Okay, we had a kick-a** plant and a band. They were doing the creepy ending to act one when what should happen? The curtain breaks when its half closed. It totally sucked, but the tech crew got it workign again. The plant opperator got such a small break. Poor her.

We had a set for Lucky Stiff which was like.... gahjsdahfjkhfajks.
Seeing as no one could use power tool, we had to hire some guy to make it. There was a platform and the guy who made it... it basicly looked like he took a piece of plywood and sawed it in three places and attatched it... it was all crooked and it was just... wow...

oh god, don't remind me of bad sets. Try having a giant barn falling during a scene change, the flats breaking, also durning a scene change, and an evil car that liked goudging the set to hell. all during shows. I had to fix one of those flats during the intermission. then, the same damned flat broke again later in the show. BTW, the shows were Oklahoma and Grease
