Comrade Rob
I live in a cave so I'm not well informed on the subject. However, This to me is just another case of the possibility for revolution being directed in the wrong way. What i'd really like to see is the Iranian Communist party at the forefront of all this and directing this action to where it needs to go. But unfortunately that is not the case.
To answer your question: If it is a victory for our comrades in Iran then by all means, I support them
Of course. I'd personally want to see the Communist Party of Iran as one of the main protesters, but Mousavi represents a more leftist political system than the theocratic fascism that Ahmadinejad supports.
The previous pres. sucked up to western European capital. This pissed of the US, but as long as European powers had an interest there they were pretty safe.
When Ahmadi~ took over he went all protectionist and isolationist and s**t.
His populism got him the support of the small merchants and peasants and his orientation toward the west got him the support of the clergy, but the isolationism and even more backward views isolated the intelectuals and pissed of the large Iranian capitalist.
This so called 'Green Revolution' is merely the reaction of the big bourgeoisie appealing to the intelectuals against a populist supported by the petty bourgeoisie who is discouraging foreign investment and hurting their profits.
That is ALL IT IS.
This CANNOT be good in any sense of the word. The Iranian working class is highly combative, but has been repressed for decades, drowned in the blood of unionists. This was objectively supported by the reformist Communist Party who backed the 'Islamic Revolution' and did not call for proletarian class independence and try to turn it into a real revolution. The Iranian CP CANNOT BE RELIED UPON. In fact, one may even predict that when the moment of revoluton comes they will side with reaction.
In short:
* This is a thoroughly bourgeois movement.
* The working class is not a factor in the situation and at this juncture CANNOT BE.
* The Communist Party CANNOT lead this struggle in a decent direction.
