racism is hate! no excuses my grandfather was racist from ww2 Ive got a Japanese tattoo that means perseverance...hes prob. rolling in his grave since i was named after him but whatever! biggrin

You know, I've always sort of felt that unions like these promoted racism by drawing attention to, well, race. Even if you "accept" another race and treat them "as equals" you're still seeing them as somebody who isn't YOU. The point of these things is to promote equality, right? But until people stop using the word "race" in this context, things won't truly be equal. We're all just people, right?

However, I suppose the reasoning behind there being no specific benefits for Caucasians it is that, though not only whites are racist, they seem to be the most common group to commit violence based solely on race, which would probably make me a little defensive if I were an "ethnic minority" in this country (the USA) too. Anyway, I'd never join a White Student Union, even if they had one. Maybe it just hasn't been long enough since World War 2?

Also, I think the word Cracker is totally hilarious, but while in South America I have had the uncomfortable experience of having people shout "gringo" at me from across the street. It's not that I mind the word, (in fact I have a Costa Rican "adopted" sister who lives down the street from us, and she and her daughter call my mom "Mama Gringa" very affectionately) it's just the context, and the feeling, of being targeted like that by somebody you've never even seen before. I can understand why black people are uncomfortable about the N word still, as, unlike "cracker" which is kind of funny, in many places, whites still tend to use the N word in an incredibly derogatory manner. The only question is: if they let the word go and it became more mainstream, wouldn't it loose it's ability to offend? At this point, I think it's mostly offensive because it's taboo.

This country has honestly had racism issues from the very beginning, from the moment the Brits set foot on this place and started fighting off the Native Americans and the Spanish. Then we were racist against the Brits themselves, then it was blacks, then the Irish and the Chinese and the Japanese then the Russians then Vietnamese and now Mexicans, (which kind of comes full circle to the British hating the Spanish, which I think is hilarious) and Middle Eastern people (though this generally is a religious issue.) We even fought the Canadians in 1812 just because the War of Independence we fought against the British just wasn't enough for us. We're also kind of racist against the French, now that I think about it... But we love Italians because we dig the Mafia. Just not the Russian Mafia, because those guys are scary as hell.

Well yes, that is what it's called, technically, but the question here is why it's common place in our society... and perhaps if it's justified or not.

Why is it called reverse racism anyway? Are white people too good to be victims of regular racism. blaugh xd

you know? racism has become a pain in the a**. We should just get rid off all race union and just leave it at that. Why do you think we are called the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!!!!!!!! We are all the same, if we just look inside ourselves. We all have the same number of organs, blood cells, bones, etc.etc. This country was created to be equal for all. Granted, that equality for all didnt happen until close to the 21st century, but cmon, now we can all be together. Racism is just another term for fear. "We have nothing to fear but fear itself." as FDR would put it. Other races are just afraid of us as we are of them (i'm White but I have about 99% colored friends, no joke.)). If we can just drop this fear, then we can truly be united and have a strong nation for generations to come

So do something about it. And don't pretend you can't. Try to join one of those unions, and raise a fuss abotu it when you can't. Raise questions about how it's racist, and when people say that you're being racist, ask them to define racism. Be a major pain in the a** about this, and you CAN make a difference.
