What do you do usually with your finished cross stitch?
I hang 'em on the wall.
  I sew them into pillows.
  I use them for bookmarks.
  Pincushions, yo.
  *sigh* I have no idea...

This is a topic all about life after stitching. They take forever and a day, and they'r something to be proud of - but what do you do with your cross stitching after you're done? Old ideas, new ideas, no ideas, discuss 'em all!

In theory, I frame them. Most of the ones that I have made as gifts have been framed and hung on the walls of their respected owners, as far as I know. I also turned one into a card. However, all the ones I have made for myself are lying stacked in a drawer gathering dust... I have one of the Lord of the Rings movie logo that I want to frame and then I have an astrological Taurus that I will either frame, or affix to the top of a wooden box (which was what was recommended for it). I also finished Olde World Map (my pride and joy) in July and gave it to my father to frame. Well, last week he moved across the country, so that isn't going to happen evil Once I get it back I may just take it to Michael's to get it framed.

Great topic!

Most of mine get given as gifts. sweatdrop

Sometimes I will stick them in a frame - but since I'm in college, usually it's a cheap one. ^^; I've found $2 frames that worked just fine. XD

I have one that was a Daydreams weekend kit (literally took me an hour - it was all just backstitch) and that one is hanging in my room.

I have one planned to do for me.... but I haven't gotten to it yet. sweatdrop

Mine just sort of sit around. I plan to hang my Kurama in the bathroom when I'm finished with him. I also want to turn my HxH patterns insto a pincushion... But first I have to get the thread out and make them. XD

You know, I haven't. A lot of them come with framing instructions - it usually involves stretching the piece tightly over....something.

I've heard foam-core board is excellent to use. Stretch a piece over it, attach on the back, stick in a frame.

Me, I kind of wing it. I had one that I found a mat I liked a lot for - and I taped it good to that. Another, I just cut to the exact dimensions of the area the frame had for pictures and snapped the back on. ^_^;

All of mine i've framed. one of them has gotten a real expensive frame, but that project took me over 2 years to do so it deserved it. (very intensive and very hard). Everything else has gotten a basic frame and gets put up occasionally.

Always watch the paper for framing sales! Those things cost an arm and a leg! x.x

It's time to have my Kurama framed and he's so tiny! But I just know it'll be thirty bucks or more! sweatdrop

Thanks horn_diva, I have a Michael's nearby, so I may take my piece to them. I've heard so many horror stories about people getting their pieces framed that it freaks me out lol.

I know what you mean Scribbler, the piece I am looking to frame is 18x15, so I know it's going to be crazy expensive. Thank God for those Michael's coupons though, I am definitely going to have to keep an eye out!

yeah, it did cost a bit, but my parents covered that part. twas nice. And thankfully it seems that in my Michael's there is a lady who specializes in setting and framing cross stitches. ^^ i love that store now. and there are so many frame designs to choose from, if you're doing a custom one.
