I got another cover question for you! Is there a cover of a Bowie song out there that you really liked? Tell us about it! EDIT: I put up links of the two versions for your enjoyment! Quote: Five Years Cover, by paperchase (I couldn't find a link, send me one?) | Original, by Bowie pirate

Neat question Zigs! Thanks for starting this one!! Hmm... This may sound weird... but I like this version of Golden Years, sung by Marilyn Manson! eek It sounds odd, I know... but I really think he pulls it off.
Ever heard it?

I don't like the golden years cover better than the original, I just think it's an interesting cover..

Christian Death's rendition of Panic In Detroit really pushes the right buttons. It's as if the song were written just for them.

Bauhaus did a cover of Ziggy Stardust (one of my favorite Bowie songs anyway) that I like. Not better than the original, per se, but it has a bit more muscle.

Come to think of it, Duran Duran did a quite respectable version of Fame. It was faithful to the original, yet they made it their own.
I'm not too cool to admit that I listened to Duran Duran. blaugh

The only one that I even bother listening to is Nirvana, usually followed by several hours of Bowie. If I really want to listen to Nirvana, I have to leave Man Who Sold the World for last - otherwise I'll switch over to Bowie on the spot.

of Montreal did a cover of Starman, and since that's a favorite of mine, I looked into it. I was not put off in the slightest.

I found out about of Montreal because I was in Virgin MegaStore one day (that's the usual after-work meet up spot for the hubby and I. We meet there browse a bit and then go off to do whatever it is we planned to do.) Well anyway, I was in the store browsing the mags and there was a very glittery man on the cover of (I think) Rolling stone and in big words it said something to the effect of "The Next David Bowie?" Naturally, I needed to look this man up to see what he was about. I can understand the comparison, but I would hardly think he's the next... I liked a lot of his acoustic stuff. His band has a really unique sound. I enjoyed their Bowie covers, they do them pretty well.

If you ever come across the pAperchAse's cover of Five Years I'd really recommend it.
Bauhaus are one of my all time favourite bands but I don't really rate their cover of Ziggy because it's so much like the original. I love Nirvana's Man Who Sold The World though.

I should have been a pair of ragged claws
Though I really think that it isn't a replacement for the original, M. Ward did a cover of "Let's Dance" that I really, really love. He made it very bluesy and sensual, but the tempo has also been slowed down quite a bit.
If I ever get married, I wouldn't mind having that be the song I dance with my husband to, and then having the original suddenly played directly after.
Scuttling across the floors of silent seas
