Okay, time to tell. What is your absolute favorite work by Tolkien?
I looked and did not see this thread, lots of ones about favorite race or couple or character, but not which book.
So what is it?

The Fellowship, it just generally seemed less evil and sad. There were more funny moments and it's great having the whole Fellowship together biggrin

Well, I have to say that Return of the King is my favorite, although I hate to see good books come to an end. I just have to see how things turn out. Most of the time when I read series books, the last ones are my favorites because I love seeing the resolution play out!
Don't forget Syapherian, we have a date with Quenya in the near future! And I won't let you forget it!

Oh Loosy I know, I have not forgotten all of the Lord's Prayer either...Átaremma i ëa han ëa...
As for me I agree with Andserkiel in that The Fellowship is nice because it is just more introducing of the characters and whatnot, calmer, less death and destruction is all around. I think I liked it best as a movie, pretty much for that reason.

I liked it a lot too because there was so much inovation in that movie that was so new to me. I really enjoyed watching it. I always love seeing the first movie, but I have to say, I have a sick pleasure for gore!!!

This is a difficult question as to which is my favorite. Since I have only read The Hobbit thru Return of the King, my decision is in there somewhere. The Hobbit had some action in it, and TTT did, and RotK was filled with it! FotR wasn't as war oriented and that just got the quest started. TTT is when war really begins and the battle scenes in LotR are magnificent. So much stuff happens I just can't pick a favorite...*sigh*

Farmer Gilis of Ham hands down. There was this innocent, playful, ancient magic in it that Tolkien's post WWII writing just doesn't have. It was funnier and more honest of Tolkien's views. It was serious in that queer way that only children's books can be serious.

Well, out of LOTR I love the Return of the King. But my all time favorite by Tolkien is tied between that and The Unfinished Tales. It's fantastic, describing Numenor, and Galadriel and Celeborn's past.

I love the Return of the King the most because the main man in that book is Aragorn and he is my fav. He is everything that I would want in myself and a man for me. It also has the best battle sequence and fastest story line. I love FOTR as well, but the spending five chapters doing nothing but walking through the forest did nothing for me. The only thing that happened was they met with the elves and stayed with them a bit, and met Tom Bombidal (I don't have the book with me so sorry if i spelled name wrong). I was also hoping to see him in the movie, but oh well.

ROTK is my personal favourite. I can't even really pinpoint the reason. There is just so much about it that i love. There is so much action and story. I also really loved the fact about it that when you thought it was going to end all happy, it didn't. I liked how the hobbits had to fight their own war and learn from all of their experiences throught the whole journey.
