Return to Labyrinth Manga
Good idea! I've been waiting for something like this since 1986!
Bad idea! Nothing can replace the magic of the original!

User ImageI noticed that Labyrinth is a very popular word among this guild... so I thought everyone would appreciate this post.
For those of you who don't know, Jim Henson company signed with TokyoPop a while back to make a 4 volume mange series involving the Labyrinth characters!

General Plot Summary:
The Goblin King has kept a watchful eye on Toby: his minions secretly protecting the child. Legions of goblins work behind the scenes to ensure that Toby has whatever his heart desires, preparing him for the day when he will return to the Labyrinth and take his rightful place beside Jareth as the heir to the Goblin Kingdom.

I think this series far exceeded my expectations (granted I kept them low at first so as not to be disappointed)
Though it's not the same as the original, yes, it is great fun and answers some 'what if' questions. Great references to the original, and use of the original characters.
I've alreay read the 3rd volume, though I think it may have been the weakest of the 3 I still loved it! But I won't know how I really feel about it til I read the whole manga.

Thanks for the post Ziggy! biggrin

BASH has something to say!

Yes, I've read 1 and 2!! I need to go buy 3 now that it's out~
It's a very good manga that answers some questions about the movie. I'd been waiting for something like this for a long time. The art is very nice and the humor is similar to that of the original's.

That will be all.

I think they did some really awesome stuff with this manga series. I agree with you Killer, I think they got the humor and the playfulness of the original! Sarah, unfortunately, turned out as I always imagined she would after her trip to the Labyrinth... I hope she will get a happy ending in the conclusion of the series!

Well reading all your reviews of the manga has opened my eyes to reading it. Im some what hard core with the movies of the 80's. I hope they never do a remake as its good as it is.

Oh, hello there, internets!

I might be interested in checking these out. I've never read a manga before (I mean, you do read them right? Is there a special word for that?) and I don't know much about it.

I did not see you there.

When I looked at it in the store it seemed to weird and too different than the movie. I would've preffered a manga version of the original movie Labyrinth.

Oh, yeah, I have the first two volumes. We got them last year when my sister went to the Science and Technology Fair at the mall. I think they're okay. The problem is though, is that in the manga, they made Jareth look really young and pretty and everything, but then when you watch the movie, and you're like, "Am I the only one who notices that the entire plot of this movie is a 40 year old trying to chase down a 16 year old????" So you're trying to convince yourself that he's magic, so it really doesn't matter, because he can make himself look however he wants.

I'm just waiting for Jareth to grow up in this. Judging by what I've read so far in the third one, not much.

Any news on when the 4th volume will be coming out? I haven't been to the manga store since 2009.

@GrowingDandelion: I don't think he will grow up. It's a manga; it's common for grown men to look young and pretty.

Yeah, I know that, it's just that when you read the manga, he's all young-looking and pretty, but then if you watch the movie right after, he looks way older than he normally does. It's kinda creepy...
