When dusk broke out I stopped by a small stream. My horse and I had already rode many miles and had left the small village in the distance. I was sure that Sophia was sobbing to herself by the fireplace in the servants small quarters. When the moon finally appeared I settled down, and wrapped myself up in the woollen blank I had brought with me. I closed my eyes and let the saviour of sleep take over my body.
Some time during the night, I woke to the sound of quiet sobbing. I turned to the direction of the sound but found someone was holding me. I managed to turn around to face them but they had already seemed to notice that I was awake. Angel nickered comfortingly. As if to warn me not to hurt the one who bound me to themselves with their arms. The moonlight gleamed on their face as I looked into the familiar, warm, hazel eyes. Noah.
It took me some time to take in the fact that, here I had slept, in the arms of the one who had not only saved me but who I had given my heart to. It was the same person who had broken the same heart I had given them. My heart. “What are you doing here?” I whispered. He smiled and it was then that I saw the tears that streaked his face. “You don’t know how much it hurt me to see you go. I didn’t want you to hate me. That’s why I followed. Hope you don’t mind but I love you too much to see you leave and never return,” he stroked my cheek and I buried my face in his bare chest, for his shirt was still opened.
