History: Hikari’s fate was decided long before she was born. Her family used to be Angels, belonging to the Heavens with minimal ties to the Earth. Her grandparents were in the hierarchy of the Angel society, and at the time, it would seem that the entire family would stay that way. Their life was going well, and they soon had a daughter, Hikari Yamamoto’s mother.
This was where their family’s angelic legacy ended. Her mother, named Alena , was one of the few Angels that had an increased interest in the human world down on Earth’s surface, more than most Angels usually had. Her interest showed in a young age, and her parents immediately became wary. They knew the consequences of being too attached and involved in the human world were extreme, and as their daughter continued to grow in her addiction to humans, they began to take action. They forbade her to look out on Earth, contained her to the Heavens, and tried to get her mind away from Earth’s surface. The increased prevention methods inacted by her parents only pushed Alena to look into the human world farther, and against her parent’s orders, she snuck down to the Earth’s surface more often. She took things even farther when she hid her wings and actually began walking around in the crowds, observing people as she masqueraded as one of them. She also knew the consequences of her actions if she were to be caught. To Alena’s mistake, she felt as though she would never be caught. With that confidence embedded into her brain, she began interacting even more with the humans, eventually gaining the eye of a Japanese man named Daisuke Yamamoto. They began falling in love with each other, and that was when Alena started losing her guard. She began infatuated with Daisuke, and her parents noticed, as did other Angels. Unknown to Alena, the other Angels began monitoring her every move, and soon she was caught in the act of being in love with a mortal. Her punishment, as Alena knew, was severe. She was banished from the Heavens, never to return again.
Luckily for her, Daisuke took her in, and they lived happily on Earth together, eventually having a girl who they named Hikari. She was obviously, a halfblood between Angel and Human. Her birth is an extremely rare case, since cases of exiled Angels are extremely low. Her parents decided to name their daughter Hikari, because the word is the Japanese translation of ‘light’.
Hikari gained her wings when she was born. Though she had her mother’s angelic traits, her physical aspects were dominated by her father’s Japanese heritage, giving her the black hair and eyes. When she was seven, she began flying, and she gained her magical abilities shortly after. She attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry when she was eleven, and had a few years of nice, plain studying. She always kept her wings hidden at school, afraid of what the other students might say because she was different. That went well for the majority of her years at Hogwarts, though one specific incident changed everything.
In the middle of Hikari’s seventh and final year of school at Hogwarts, she was observing a mock Quidditch match between Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw. Everything seemed to be going well, except for the turn of events that was caused by a bludger deciding to switch its target rider, instead aiming for the Hufflepuff Keeper, catching him unawares. The resulting impact shot the Keeper off of his broom, sending him plummeting down towards the ground. In a split second decision, Hikari leapt off the stands, summoned her wings, and caught the boy midair. As she lowered them both to the ground, her stomach was filled with dread. What were her housemates going to think? What was the school going to think? As her feet touched the ground, she refused to look at the boy she had just saved, bracing herself for ridicule and scorn because she was half angel, half human, or that she was partially a fallen angel. Instead, she was met with acceptance and awe. She was so confused and overwhelmed at being accepted that she broke down crying, happy that her peers had accepted her.
She went out into the Wizarding World as an adult freshly graduated from Hogwarts, confident that she would be able to secure a job and live a happy life as a half breed. There was a mixture of responses to her applications. Some jobs were offered to her. Jobs she applied for were often met with scorn and laughter because she was a half breed. After the attitudes that she had received, she decided that she would return to the only place that she had truly felt accepted…at Hogwarts. She applied for a position as a teacher for Astronomy, and also to lead the new studies of Performance of Magical Arts, since the second was an extra curricular. (Not sure if I can apply for both, since one is an extra curricular and not an actual class. I can change it if necessary) She hopes that this new opportunity will help her to fit in more and for her to gain more friends.
Personality: Hikari is a sweet, kind, and caring person. She never hesitates to help anyone in need. She is determined, and although she shows a happy, cheerful face to most people, she is often sad and confused. She pushes through everything that is thrown at her, though not without emotional damage. She has accepted that not everyone will accept her being the halfblood that she is. However, the remarks about her ancestry from present and past commentators still hurts her, and she is still afraid of being rejected or scorned. To hide her fear, she pretends to have no care in the world.
Pet: A pure black cat with yellow eyes named Yami, which is Japanese for ‘Dark’.

Other: She wishes that she could play Quidditch, though she has never done so because she was afraid that people would attack her and say her wings were an unfair advantage.

Rules:
Yes, there are rules in my classroom. Below are what I expect each and every one of you to abide by them.
Behavior
I expect all students to be well behaved in my class. When I am teaching, I expect no talking. Quiet talking is allowed during classwork. However, if concentration is affected, talking will not be allowed.
Cheating
I will not tolerate cheating in any form. While you may discuss your answers and different concepts, you cannot take another person's answers and copy them. If I catch you, you will be failing that assignment. Two infractions will cause you to get removed from my class for the rest of term.
Tardies and Absences
I expect people to be on time and in class. I understand if you get sick or if it's a bad morning. Hence, you are allowed three tardies per term. Any more than thtat and you are going to recieve dentention.
Homework
Homework should be completed on time. If you have any problems, please owl me or talk to me between classes. I understand that your homework load can get severe at times, so in fitting situations, I will give extensions pending on how much homework you have, but only if you clear it withh me first.

My personal schedule is as follows.
Period One: Open
Period Two: Year Three Astronomy
Period Three: Year Four Astronomy
Period Four: Open
Period Five: Open
Period Six: Open
Period Seven: Year Six and Seven Astronomy
Period Eight: Year Five
In regards to tutoring, I will be available during Periods One, Four, Five, and Six. Please owl me in advance if you intend to show up, or come see me earlier in the day. If not, I may not be in my classroom.
I also have an open door policy if you want to talk. Students who have any problems and wish for someone to confide in can come and find me at any time.
Also, please do note that due to the nature of this course, there will be evenings where we will need to meet after class hours to study the stars. I will notify you in advance of such meetings, but these classes are crucial as well.

 Stephanie walked into the Astronomy class and fell into the seat with a sigh. She doubted the Slytherin girl would have hurt her but her past experiences made her not wanting to find out for sure. Stephanie sighed and laid her head on the desk. She was glad Kathryn and Andy had the chance to walk together anyways. Maybe they would become friends and if Angel was right they might even hook up. Steph doubted it would be anything serious since both Kathryn and Andy were so young but it would be fun to watch what happened. Especially if they talked during Yelsah's class. Yelsah was strict to begin with and if Angel was right about him being protective and judging by the glares he had been giving Andy Gunn it would not end pretty.

Kathryn sprinted into the astronomy tower and fell into a desk panting. She wasn't in the best shape ever and running up the tower steps had not been the easiest task in the world. "Sorry.... I'm late.... Hikari.... we had.... problems leaving..... History.... of Magic." She panted out not even noticing she had called the professor Hikari instead of Professor. Once she caught her breath she glared back at Steph. "Don't leave me like that again, 2 seconds later another one walked in and they started going at it."

Mary Lou ran in behind Kathryn and silently fell into a seat not even bothering to explain why she was late. She didn't trust herself to speak because she was frustrated with Kathryn and she knew that if she said anything about Kathryn this professor would probably get after her since she was her fiance's daughter. Mary Lou quietly caught her breath. She was in better shape than Kathryn was but there were no towers at the academy and she wasn't used to so many stairs.

Hikari smiled as she saw Stephanie walk in. "Hello. How are you?" She asked as she made sure that she had her materials ready to begin class. "I trust that your summer went well?" She asked as she looked at her student, glad that she had shown up on time. As she saw Kathryn and Mary Lou run in, she shook her head. As much as she loved Kathryn and that now she was the young girl's mother to be, Kathryn needed to make sure that she kept that student teacher relationship in the classroom, for fear of having other people think that Kathryn was getting an unfair advantage. "I'll excuse it this once. Please make sure to be on time next class." She said as she smiled at her daughter to be. "Also, don't forget I'm your teacher in this class...so, Professor Yamamoto, please, Kathryn." She said gently, knowing that it might be a touchy subject. She would hug and kiss her after class, but during class? She had to be the teacher. "Now, you guys are in your first year of Astronomy. Can anyone tell me what this class is about and why you wanted to take this class?

"Yes ma-am." Kathryn looked away red in the face. She hadn't meant to address her so informally and she hadn't meant to be late. She shouldn't have waited for Andy. Kathryn hadn't expected special attention and now she felt bad that Hikari's was the one class she was late to. Well... so far. Determined to make up for it Kathryn listened to the question and quietly raised her hand.

Mary Lou gave a small smile when the girls got scolded for being late because it wasn't just her that had gotten scolded but the Hufflepuff as well. When she then got reminded that it was Professor, Mary Lou nodded. 'Well at least the fiance is going to be fair.' She thought to herself. Upon hearing the question Mary Lou didn't even bother to raise her hand. "Astronomy is the study of the night sky and really the entire solar system around us." Her thick American Southern accent spoke clear and crisp each syllable.

Andy was dragged into the room behind Kathryn. As soon as she let go of his wrist he massaged it and fell into the desk beside her. His eyes grew big when Kathryn addressed the Professor by her fist name and he wanted to hide. Calling the professor by her first name upon being late was never a good idea. "Sorry we're late ma-am, it was my fault." He said. When she asked the question his hand had shot into the air but Mary Lou answered it and he took it down. There was no need to be a show off. That was a good enough answer unless the Professor said otherwise.

Kathryn smiled at Andy when he said it was his fault they were late. "It's find Andy, I didn't have to wait for you." When she saw him massaging his wrist her smile dropped. "Oh my gosh, did I hurt you? I didn't mean to, yeah it probably wasn't the brightest of ideas to drag you all the way up the steps."

Hikari smiled reassuringly at Kathryn before she frowned at Mary Lou. Despite the fact that Mary Lou had given the right answer, she hadn't raised her hand. "Mary Lou. Keep in mind that you are in class and you need to raise your hand to answer. Since you were right, you won't be losing any house points. However, be mindful for the future." She scolded as she turned to see Andy walk in late. Shaking her head, she sighed. "Make sure NOT to be late to class again. I do have a three tardy policy, but you don't want to start off term on my bad side." She said before she smiled. "Now, why did all of you decide to take this class?" She asked.

Kathryn stopped talking to Andy and looked forward again. She had already messed up with Hikari by first being late and then calling her Hikari and she didn't want anything else to go wrong. When she asked the second question Kathryn raised her hand again patiently. She had thought of just answering but on hearing Hikari tell Mary Lou to raise her hand she decided against it.

Hikari smiled and nodded. "Yes, Kathryn?" She asked as she waited for her daughter to be to answer. She wasn't mad at her by any stretch of the imagination, she just needed to appear strict so that she didn't play any favorites.
