Name: Nalin Dahiya Pronunciation: Nah-Leen Dah-hee-yah Stage: Birth Song: Ocean Wave D.O.B: June 4 Sex: Male Appearance Hair A variety of blues. The interesting part is the way it likes to stand up - and move, for that matter. It tends to wiggle and sway, as if caught in a current. It refuses to lie flat against his head, unless you cover it with a hat. It also reflects whether it is a low or peak energy month for Nalin; if it's a low month, then it doesn't move very much asides from a slight swaying. If it's a high energy month, it's constantly swaying. Eyes Small, narrow and blue. While the pupils are distinct, the entire eye - even the 'whites' - seem to be tinted a slight blue color. Skin His skin is very warm, and slightly rough - it feels a lot like sand, in fact. Unique Characteristics The lower half of his body almost seems to be made of water - except that it's firm. It's salty and cool to the touch, and feel much more slick them the rest of his skin.
Traits Likes Dislikes Personality Nalin is a remarkably relaxed and agreeable baby; not crying often, content to just watch the world through sleepy eyes. It doesn't take much at all to keep him content. This will change as it gets into a high energy month, however - he will remain agreeable and relaxed, but will be much more difficult to handle, due to a desire to explore more of his surroundings. If something can be grabbed, he'll be yanking it; if there's something going on, he'll be watching with attentive eyes. Those are also the times when he learns the easiest, because he pays more attention. Also, no matter what month it is, he is not easily dissuaded if he decides he wants something. The methods may be slightly different, depending on his energy levels, but he doesn't ever give up.
Energy Levels Unlike most children, Nalin's energy levels vary in extreme amounts. Typically, young children will have variations in their energy throughout the day, but they typically are tend towards one side of it or another. Nalin, on the other hand, seems very stable from day to day - but not month to month. In fact, the way his energy levels rise and fall rather resembles the waves.
At the low point of a low energy month, he's very sleepy, and can be difficult to motivate - but easy to entertain, and can concentrate well. Gradually as time moves away from there, he gains more energy. Exactly one month later he hits his high energy peak; this is when he has trouble staying still for very long, wants to do lots of things, and has more trouble concentrating.
Yearly Energy Schedule: Peak and low energy is on the 10th of each month.
Low levels: June, August, October, December, February, April High levels: July, September, November, January, March, May

Name: Amina Dahiya Pronunciation: Ah-Mee-Nah Dah-hee-yah Gender: Female Age: 32 Profession: Marine Biologist (primarily focused on plantlife) Nationality: Indian [Telugu] Languages: Telugu, Hindi, English Birthplace: Hyderabad, India
Appearance Height: 5'2/158c Weight: 132lbs/60kg Hair: Fairly long, black, and straight. It's very shiny, and usually looks nice when she lets it down. However, Amina normally wears it up in a bun, to keep it out of her way at work. Eyes: Dark Brown; she also wears a red tilak (dot) on her forehead. She used to wear a Sindoor at the parting of her hair, but she stopped doing that when she became a widow. Build: As you can see from the height and weight, Amina isn't exactly stick-thin. She is a bit on the plump side, and has some curves. Clothing: If she's working (which she spends most of her time doing), then she's likely wearing semi-casual business attire (pants and blouses) under her lab coat. On one of Amina's rare days off, she might simply wear a Sari to relax in.
Personality: Amina is, to put it mildly, a bit neurotic. Everything has to be organized a certain way, everything has to be in the exact right spot, and if anything is amiss, she has to fix it immediately. Which does work out fairly well for her job, because she rarely misses anything; she's a very keen observer. She has an opinion on everything, and has very little tolerance for idiocy or laziness, although she rarely lets her temper get out of control.
Underneath all that though, she can be very nice; it's just difficult to get through the prickliness on the surface. Amina's has a fairly good sense of humor (although it's a bit on the dry side), and she can laugh at herself - an important thing in the world of science. If you can't laugh at yourself, then you're either likely to fill your work with your own ego, or get too frustrated by setbacks. History: Amina was born in Hyderabad, India, to a fairly wealthy family. Her father was an entrepreneur who had started his own business, and it had become successful enough that by the time she was born, they had become fairly well-off. Her childhood was fairly normal, if marked by a strange fascination with plants, and she got a new baby brother, Hiresh, at age four.
As she got into her teens, her family relocated from Hyderabad to Mumbai for her fathers business, where she began to gain interest in the ocean plant life. It was no real surprise to her family when she entered university to study marine biology after graduating from secondary school. Amina was married to a man her family introduced her to, while still an undergraduate student, at age 21, before continuing on to graduate school.
She was looking forward to having children, but that plan came to a halt when she became a widow at the age of 27; her husband was killed in an automobile accident. Since then, Amina's been focused almost entirely on her work; and by this point, the idea of a child isn't entirely welcome.

Timeline June 4, 2009: I won Nalin~ June 10, 2009: Nalin grows! "In a burst of salty sea water, the orb makes a large splash as the falling water hits the floor to reveal a rather odd looking baby! Half his body seems to be... Made of the ocean? Cool and salty smelling. His hair wiggles upward as he stares at you with his slitted eyes and smiles. His tan skin is a bit gritty like sand, but also quite warm..."

Username: Paivanni Song: Ocean Wave Guardian's Name: Amina Dahiya Song's Name: Nalin Prompt #: 1 Prompt:
The first and second samples seem to have retained their good condition, with only sample one having a slight bit of discoloration...
The room was fairly small, just being a simple laboratory with a series of small tanks and a desk. It didn't feel particularly crowded though, for it's size; there were only two people in it, after all. One sat at a desk, typing, and the other...well, perhaps it would be more accurate to say one-and-a-half people were in the room; Amina, while being somewhat petite, counted as one person. The toddler, on the other hand, didn't quite manage to take up that much space.
Although that didn't mean he couldn't try.
Amina just didn't understand what had gotten into Nalin; he had been rather energetic lately, but today it seemed worse then usual. He was knocking over one thing, or ripping up another; giggling and clapping at one moment, whining and bored the next. He seemed to be descending into another bored phase at the moment, although she really couldn't spare the time to try and distract him; she had brought some toys for the boy, but he seemed to have lost interest in those.
Sample three, on the other hand, has an extreme amount of discoloration. The water in that tank also is showing signs of being tainted by the infected algae...
To top it off, her babysitter had canceled - forcing her to take the hyperactive toddler to work. Which wouldn't be so bad if the little boy was acting like he had the last time he'd been there. She'd managed to observe and write notes easily, that time. Of course, he hadn't been there in nearly a month...and apparently a month was long enough to build plenty of energy.
The last time Nalin had come to work with her, he'd been easy; sleepy (but not grouchy), easily entertained, and not inclined to try and 'explore'. Today, exploration seemed his prime choice.
"Nalin, leave that alone!"
The words didn't seem to do anything to dissuade the toddler from attempting (and failing) to climb into a small tank of algae. In fact, nothing really seemed to dissuade him, once he'd fixated on something; he was determined to get up close and personal with that algae.
So when Amina picked him up, and sat at her desk with him still on her lap, it was no real surprise that he didn't give up trying to get at the tank. Nalin didn't do much talking yet, but he didn't need to talk to express his desire there; it was obvious in the way he kept attempting to wiggle out of her lap.
"It's just a bit more, let me finish this and we can go home, alright?"
She had been unfamiliar with babies before she got Nalin, but she didn't think some things about him were normal at all. When he'd arrived, he'd been a very calm baby, who spent most of his time sleeping. Since then, however, his energy levels had fluctuated dramatically - one month he'd be calm and lazy, and that same time the next month, he'd be wired and excited. Amina was tempted to take him to a doctor; Nalin might have extraordinary circumstances of birth, but surely this wasn't normal?
With the wiggling bundle on her lap attempting to distract her, she finally managed to finish her notes. Amina scooped the toddler up as she stood, giving a little sigh as she headed out of that room, and to another.
"Come on, lets go see some algae you can actually play with ...maybe that way you'll be less rambunctious at home."
She was fairly confident that it would curb at least his impulses to play with algae - he was an extremely determined toddler. If he didn't get to at least get close to some algae, he was going to keep trying at home; Nalin didn't appear to understand the meaning of defeat, as he would just keep trying and trying until he'd succeeded. So she would let him get what he wanted, this time; better that then him getting into one her experiments at home.
