The forbidden forest is... as it's named... forbidden to all students because of the dangers inside it but some students disregard that rule just like any of the others.

User ImageKlára walked unsteadily through the outskirts of the forest with her arms crossed over her chest to keep warm. Her skirt kept catching on thorns and brambles, and leaves got stuck in her hair, but she pushed on at the sound of Seth's voice coming to her. Target on her forehead? Why would there be a target on her? This Haro person didn't know her! He didn't know anything about her...did he? This could be an explanation for... She closed her eyes and shook her head. No. Josef committed suicide. He wasn't killed by some Wizarding drug trafficker. He had had no reason to be involved with that sort of thing. Josef had been happy, and successful. But if this Haro person wasn't looking at Josef, but her...

Klára shivered with the thought, but continued on. She was no coward. She could walk in the forest without getting scared. She wouldn't let Seth fool her into paranoia.

Seth hesitated at the border of the forest. "You shouldn't go in there. It's a series III magical sanctuary! And it's forbidden for a reason!" Infuriated at being ignored, Seth plunged in after her. "If there's a manticore in here, I swear I'll feed you to it!" He called after her, exasperated.

User ImageKlára turned around and walked backwards through the undergrowth, glaring at Seth through the leaves. "If I get eaten, that's just one less tragic loss for you to suffer at the hands of whateverthehell his name was, isn't it?" she countered sharply before turning back around and continuing on. "I'll be fine."

She took three steps and fell into a hole. It was shallow and easily escapable, but still embarrassing.

"Skills," Seth commented dryly, watching her get up. "And what exactly are you doing in there?" He asked. "I'm sure there are more than just holes in there out to get you."

User ImageCrawling out of the hole and now quite dirty, Klára glared at Seth with all the willpower she had. "Then let them get me!" she practically screeched at him, sending several birds in flight in the tree above her. "I obviously deserve it, wandering about on my own, and you obviously have no business following me. It wouldn't even be your fault! So just let them get me!"

Groaning with frustration, Klára threw her hands in the air and stalked even further into the woods, mostly just trying to get a rise out of Seth.

Seth made a motion to quiet Klara, but he was too late. Her voice rang like a bell through the woods, echoing and painfully alien in the quiet atmosphere. "You idiot!" Seth hissed. "Have you noticed nothing?!" Seth's battle reflexes were screaming as he tensed, observing his surroundings like a laser. There. Bowtruckle at six o clock. Two more on the left, coming in fast and a fourth on the tree by Klara. His wand made a knife-like *snick* as he pulled it swiftly from its sheath and faced the first creature. It jumped at him, long fingers extended to claw out Seth's eyes. Seth however had no intention of even being there when the bowtruckle landed. He jumped aside and kicked the cursed thing into a tree. Turning on the group of two, he raised his wand, cold fire springing up in his eyes. "Sectumsempra!" He swept his wand up like a sword, tearing the pair to shreds with a loud crackle, then turned back to the first and blew it to shreds with a nonverbal hex. "Incendio!" The final bowtruckle fell out of the tree covered in bluebell flames and emitted a dying wheeze reminiscent of a campfire hitting a sap bubble in the wood. Seth barely had time to smirk before six more of the sharp-fingered little wood-demons jumped from the trees at him and Klara.

User ImageKlára didn't react with much more than a flinch when the bowtruckles came flying from the trees at her. Still, they were such little things; why did Seth act like they were fully-grown manticores? If anything, he was just trying to make her feel impressed by his magical prowess. Instead, she felt annoyed. "You know, they've been debating whether or not to make the Sectumsempra Curse illegal ever since 1997," she said absently. She pointed her wand into the innards of a tree nearby and emerged with a stream of woodlice. They fell about the forest floor and the bowtruckles fell upon them, instantly rendered harmless. "They're easily distracted."

She turned to move on, deeper into the forest, and froze in her tracks at what she saw. As mentioned before, she had only been trying to get a rise out of Seth; she hadn't actually meant to run into anything.

She took one, two, three steps away from the apparently-wild hippogriff, then broke into a run for the forest's edge, seriously fighting the urge to scream as she heard the leaves rustling behind her that meant the stormy-gray beast was chasing her.

"Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!" Seth ran after her, spouting obscenities as the thing chased them through the trees. His cloak rippled like liquid shadow as he ran, pushing Klara ahead of him. "Hurry up!" Years of sprinting away from (and occasionally into) danger had rendered Seth a powerful athlete, and he practically carried Klara as the beast bore down on them, flapping and squawking. Seth could hear the talons clicking on rocks in the soil and he sped up even further. Finally, they turned around the wrong tree and ended up facing a wall of thick trees netted all around with brambles. Seth shoved Klara against a tree and turned to face the creature with a curse blazing on the end of his wand. He underestimated the hippogriff's speed, however, and barely managed to cast a physical shield charm to block the talons. The blow threw him five feet sideways, where he landed in a heap. The hippogriff approached Klara, looking at her with its intelligent amber eyes.

User ImageKlára ran with as much strength as she had in her, and yet Seth kept pushing and pushing her until she finally couldn't go on any longer and tripped, landing among the brambles and undergrowth. "Thanks," she spat before, caught up with adrenaline, screaming as the hippogriff seemed to charge Seth and send him flying. She cowered against the tree, unable not to keep eye contact with the beast's startling amber eyes.

As it came closer, on a reflex from third year, Klára thrust out her hand, squeezing her eyes tightly shut. She didn't want to see it eat her hand. Then, startlingly enough, she felt only feathers. She opened her eyes and saw that the creature was actually...nuzzling her hand. She let out a sigh of relief. It wasn't going to eat her. She drooped instantly against the tree trunk, still letting the hippogriff cuddle up to her.

Her razor-sharp eyes fell on Seth. "I could be asleep right now," she complained as if it were his fault.

"And I could be blowing vuvuzelas at small children right now," he retorted sardonically from his place on the ground. "So it's a domesticated hippogriff, eh?" He got slowly to his feet. "Beats the hell out of a manticore. Where do you think it came from?" Straightening up, he kept a wary distance between him and the creature. "Can we keep him?" Seth joked, adopting a little-boy voice. "Seriously though, it's obvious this thing wanted human contact. We should try to find out where he came from."

User ImageKlára glared heavily at Seth. They were not a team. They were not a 'we'. Gingerly, she scooted to her feet, all the while under the scrutiny of the Hippogriff's bronze eyes. "No, actually. What I should do is go back to the school before we both get in trouble, because I'm no use to my family if I get kicked out of Hogwarts, alright?" she snapped. "Na shledanou." She bowed very respectfully to the hippogriff, waiting for a response before trudging off with the feathery monster practically treading on her heels.

Seth bared his teeth. He was, as the popular American slang went, done with this s**t. Watching the hippogriff follow Klara, he laughed coldly. "Good luck with that. What are you going to do- shut the door in its face?" He leaned against a tree, uncorking a flask of something. "Where's your sense of adventure? Are you just going to let this obvious bit of intrigue go ignored!?" Klara continued walking away, and he called after her, "You know what you are? Apart from a delusional nerve wreck, you're a plot-thinner!" He laughed bitterly at his own joke, taking another pull from the flask and wiping his mouth on his sleeve. He watched Klara and the hippogriff go until they were nearly out sight before reluctantly following, Scottish accent breaking through. "Oi, you're not seriously going to let that thing just wander around after you!" He broke into a run to catch up to the odd pair.

User ImageKlára continued walking huffily through the undergrowth with the hippogriff's beak clicking like some testy old lady's tapping feet. "You really should stick with one accent," she shouted over her shoulder with, ironically, her own accent becoming more pronounced with her aggravation. "The Scottish doesn't stick out so much around here."

The hippogriff nudged her in the back with his bony beak and she sighed. He was cute, sure, and she loved animals, but she didn't need a pet, especially one that weighed around a thousand pounds and smelled...questionable, at best. She headed back toward the lake and hoped that the animal would get spooked by being out of the forest. In any case, she could just bring him to Care of Magical Creatures and they'd look after him.
