PLOT When a baby is born, it weeps and cries and screams until it is in the arms of its mother, happily admiring the world from a very small point of view. But why does that view never change? We are all born alike. When we are born, we are raised by men and women we refer to as doctors. We do not fear them for their drills and teachings, but instead find our confidence within them. We are all a part of the bigger plan. We are all important, and for that reason, we are all the same. When we are old enough, we are assigned a role to be for the rest of our lives. We do not fight this rule, for that is a crime punishable by our lives. We accept our jobs with pride and the confidence to make a help in the busy world. When we reach the age of adulthood, the other, older adults all disappear; fearlessly going to the ‘other side’ as the doctors instructed us as children. There is a big wall between were we work, and where they play. The doctors told us that we are only allowed to pass the white wall when we are old enough and I do not want to break their laws. We do not question them. We obey and do as we are told. However, the life here isn’t bad at all. It is full of mechanical marvels and clean establishments that seem to stand forever. There are no more wars, and there is only our doctors to tell us of the way the ‘Others’ used to live. They said that the Others were actually just like us, however, they did not respect each other, and ended up destroying everything. However, because that is still taught to us, we must remember that we are not to be like them. When times get tough, we are told to take a look through a different lens. If this is still troubling for you, let me explain. We learn that when the Others used to walk outside during marvelous days, they would block themselves from the beauty by wearing glasses; glasses that changed the whole world. When we are little, we are given a pair of glasses that change the way we view things. However, they don’t always work. How do you escape a world of happy sunshine, when all you want is to be normal? There is a darker side to things here. Welcome to SUNNY ACRES.
