Noob.
Nublet.
Nubz.
newb.
There are many ways to call a noob...
But my question to you, is what makes a noob?
Is it their ability to be unable to use proper grammar and spelling?
The way they respect other gamers and online players?
The way they talk over a microphone?
The way they plan/play things?
Or is it simply because of their age, a stereotype used by most people, undermining the young - and I mean very young kids.
Here have a seat. I have a story to tell. stare
I was just playing a game in the Red Faction demo on xbox live...On my team, there was two players. A young kid, seemed like he was 10-13 years of age. The other had a deep voice, and I could guess he was around 18 or over.
The match started, nothing new. I had just acquired my jetpack and started destroying the building next to me with my giant sledgehammer. Nothin' special. ninja The young boy had just gotten the first kill of the game (Seconds later I'm guessing he got killed, since he yelled "Ah crap!!") Cool.
Throughout the match, the boy would scream, and naturally the rest of my team either didn't say anything, or mumbled incoherently to themselves. At least, until the boy(Armed with a Rocket Launcher) had both killed an enemy, along with the deep voiced man. This sparked the furious rage within himself...
"What the hell! You stupid little cu*t!" the man bellowed.
With a laugh, the boy apoligized, but this laugh made the man angrier.
"You think its funny? God! You little annoying b*tch..."
And for the rest of the game, the man continued to insult the boy in numerous ways, and the boy stayed quiet. I had stayed out of this, as I was busy sneaking up behind and enemy in stealth mode. Goin' ninja. But the screaming of the man was hard to get past.
Every few minutes and in between each rounds of the match(And if you were wondering, our team lost anyways, but not because of the boy, it was actually the man since he kept team killing everyone) the boy would try to say something back to him, but the man would cut him off and insult him further. 15 minutes into the second to last round, I wasn't paying attention, but I could've sworn the boy started to cry before he left the game.
For the first time, I turned on my mic and said "Alright jack*ss, if you're going to make a little kid cry, I'm out." and left the game myself. A friend on mine told me that he and the rest of my team actually left the game because of the guy too.
So this got me to thinking, since the man called the kid noob so many times, what makes a noob?
Because to me now, it just seems like noobs are just kids on the inside, and are just looking for the fun in things. Maybe not in the best of ways, but they're doing it purely for, say recreation? You know. I'm sure they might not any BIG harm.
I mean don't get me wrong. There are people out there that really, deserve the title of noobs. But now that I think back on all the people and kids that I've thought as noobs, I have reason to believe that more than half of them didn't really deserve to be it.
