It is 2009, a year of great tradgedy. Yet, the tragedy is unknown to the general population of the world. Men, women, and children have died, hundreds and thousands, yet no one knows. China, America, Russia, Brazil, and other, smaller, countries, have been experimenting with a disease. A genetic monstrousity that posseses the body after death, turning it into an fleash-hungering beast, souless, mindless, and relentless.
Yet they couldn't control it.
They've kept it a secret, the countries working together to hush the panic and stories that would have spread. Chaos would reign if the populace of the world only knew. Yet they live their lives, oblivious to the danger.
What would happen if they only knew?
This is how it began.

((Deep sigh .I'll start.))
"Oooh, Lucie! It's so beautiful! So abstract! So thought-provoking!" cooed the girl on Lucie L'Arche's arm. Lucie tilted her head to the side, hoping to see the giant metal object at an angle that would make it beautiful. Nope. It was merde, to her. "You like it zeez much? Eet looks like a giant metal ball no matter 'ow I look at eet." she muttered, taking a deep pull on her cigarette. The Bean was rapidly becoming a symbol of the Second City, and Lucie could not understand why. "Back een my country, theez would be conseedered trash. Now, I am not saying it eez, but I cannot for the life of me grasp 'ow eet eez such a marvel." The woman regarded her with wide eyes. "You don't like? I mean, you're so new to the city, I thought you would want to see it." she said, sounding downcast. Lucie sighed, tossing her cigarette to the ground and stepping on it. "Come now, Annah. I do not zink eet is bad. Nozing of zee sort. Come now, let's go 'ome." she said, her voice becoming a purr. Annah looked up at the tall, blonde woman, aroused simply by her voice and the accent it was spoken in. Lucie inwardly smiled. Checkmate.

Asha sprinted down the hall trying in vain to tug the new scrubs top on. "Late again? Cameron's gonna give you morgue duty again!" Asha rolled her eyes and stuck her tongue out at her fellow nurse in training as she dashed into the ER and nearly ran straight into her supervising doctor.
"Triston." The man called Cameron sighed. "Should have known. Go help Lucas with the three just brought in from a bar fight." Asha mock saluted him turned and marched towards the rooms she had run past previously, only one arm in her scrub top. George Cameron shook his head at her. "And cover that tat!" He yelled after her.
Lucas smirked as she came in the room and adjusted her top. "What do you have for me?" Asha asked brightly as she smiled at the three men crammed into the one room. The ER was full of people today, almost overflowing. They had moved extra beds into the rooms in order to try and accommodate all the people, some new flue scare had them flocking in at the slightest cough.
"This one and this one need some stitches for a couple nasty gashed from broken bottles." He said pointing the bartender with a cut on his hand and a bouncer who had a gash in his arm. "This one here is complaining that one of the guys in the fight bit him and it burns, he's acting a little buggy so I'm gonna take him if you can see to the other two." Asha nodded and quickly got to work on cleaning and stitching up the other two.

Matthew stood under the old oak, starring down at his little town, covered in snow. Standing up on that hill, bundled up in his winter coat and thick boots and gloves, he felt at peace. Too bad he knew it wouldn't last too long. His phone rang, the discordant rising note grating on his attention after a full minute. He pulled it out of his pocket and looked at it, a sigh escaping his lips, the same sigh turning to mist before it was whisked away on the chill wind. It was Racheal, again. She'd been hounding him recently, somethign about helping her with her English homework. He slipped his phone back into his pocket, hoping she'd quit for the day. Somethign was wrong, he could feel it. The little probles like Racheal could wait until he'd dispelled this forboding feeling.

Lucie slowly extracated herself from the warm body pressed against her and into the dreary grey of her studio apartment. She hastily threw on big black sweats and a cami before grabbing a cigarette and heading towards the balcony, only to find that it was raining. Sighing, she set about making breakfast for Annah. The cell phone in her pocket vibrated loudly and spewed forth Notorious B.I.G.'s Hypnotize, one of Lucie's favorite songs, for some inexplicable reason. She didn't check the caller I.D. before answering. "'Ello?" she said quietly. "Luuuuuucie, baaaaaby!" crooned Alecks. "How're you doing?" Lucie's eyes narrowed at her cousin's tone. "Alecks, what do you want. Eet's early 'ere." she hissed. "Eh, but you're up, no?" snickered Alecks. Lucie sighed. "Tell me or I 'ang up." she commanded. "Snarky. You must have gotten laid last night. You never act like this unless you got some. You're probably eager to go cuddle, right?" "And what eef I am?" "No difference. Anywhat, there's a party at Geoff's brother's cabin in Manistee, Michigan, and you, my French kin, have been invited." Alecks announced spectacularly. Lucie was quiet, then considered the fun she could have. "When ees eet?" she asked. "Next Saturday." Lucie considered again. "I'll be zere." she said. "Sweetness. You know where it is." Alecks said, before hanging up. "Meechigan." Lucie crooned, staring at the rain. "Should be eenteresting, no?"

Dec 10, 2009 (Thursday)
Matthew awoke in a haze, his vision bleary and his head pounding. He didn't know what it was, but he closed his eyes and simply lay there, his skin crawling with goose-bumps. "Matthew, wake up, you're going to be late again!" his mother called from the kitchen. The smell of cooking eggs and bacon accompanied her voice. He could just barely smell it. He grumbled and groaned, finding the energy to sit up and swing out of bed. It was cold, as it always was, and he shivered in his night clothes. He was quick about his morning routine, and was soon grabbing a quick bite before heading to school. He kicked snow away from the tires of his truck, makign sure the snow-chains were in place on the tires still. It wouldn't have been the first time his sister and her friend's took them off to play with him. He didn't mind it all that much, but it had taken a long while the last time. "Bye ma, I'll see you later tonight" he said, stickign his head in the door for a quick moment before leaving. She waved and wished him a good day as he left, his truck roaring to life.

Asha made a face at the body bag on the stretcher she was rolling. Lucas had predicted correctly that she would be given morgue duty for her repeated tardies over the week. She yawned as she wheeled the stretcher into the elevator and pushed the button, leaning against the side with a sigh. Man she hated the early morning shift. Looking down at the body bag she wondered idly who was inside when she thought she saw the side move slightly. Blinking she rubbed her eyes cocked her head to the side, there it was again! Not enough to really notice unless you were looking for it, just a slight twitch. Had they made a mistake?
As her fingers closed around the zipper the elevator dinged and the doors opened. Asha nearly jumped out of her skin and let out a slight squeal of startled surprise. Groaned she shook her head at herself as she put a hand over her heart. Honestly what did she expect when she stayed up half the night watching at Night of the Living Dead marathon. "Lucas is going to roll on the floor when I tell him about this." She grumbled as she pushed the stretcher out. "Hey Repoman! I got another one for you!" She called cheerily as she approached the desk to check in and turn over the body.

A few hours later, Matthew was sitting in class, thoroughly bored by the old teacher's monotone, and slipping near the edge of precipe that fell into the abyss of slumber. His eyes drooped, and his head bent, his chin meeting his chest as he drifted off into a dream. Or was it a nightmare? The feeling of unease was now the only thing that he could feel. Sounds echoed amongst dark corridors in him mind, the moans of tortured things, the scrabbling of feet, and the slow, dull, and incessent shuffling. He peered into the darkness, the walls reforming into buildings, dark with shadows, and the floor became a street, cracked and pitted with potholes. The faded lines were barely distinguishable in the dim light taht came from the newly appeared street-lights, their irritating orangish glow flickering and dying in the dark. A figure imerged from the darkness, a rag-tag thing with patchy hair and clothing. Shredded and blood-covered it was, pallid of flesh and putrid in smell, the thing, if it was human Matthew coucl not tell, shuffled forward slowly. It lifted it's bent head, dark, dead and souless eyes fixating on the boy. It opened its mouth and uttered a low, terrifying moan. Another sister moan came from behind Matthew, and he whirled aroudn just in time to see the second thing, person, beast...zombie, lunge at him. He awoke with a start, falling from his chair and onto the tiled floor of the classroom, much to his dismay and embaressment. Others were laughing, the teacher was enraged, and Matthew was shaking with fear.

Headphones in place Asha bopped to the music as she filed death certificates in the morgues filing cabinets. 'Repoman' or George Adams as he was listed on his badge never made her work near the bodies as he knew she had an avid imagination. Tired of explaining to the trainee that people sometimes twitched and such after death, he simply pushed her to the side and out of his way. He was behind on getting the certificates filed anyways and she was could listen to her music till her ears fell off for all he cared.
Nearly finished so she could go to lunch Asha turned at the sound of a crash that was loud enough to be heard over her music. Pulling off one of her earphones she set down the records in her hand. "Repoman? You ok out there?" She yelled at the single door leading to the exam room where autopsies were performed. She frowned and moved to the window in the door at the lack of answer. George was old and she had been warned that he had suffered a mild heart attack last year, she couldn't see him through the window but did find the source of the crash. One of the metal stretcher carts they used for moving the dead to the freezers was on it's side, thinking the worst she quickly pulled the door open. "George?!" She called into the room and moved to get a better look at the stretcher.
She frowned. Nothing, there was nothing there, no George laying on the floor and no body to be moved. She huffed in irritation and bent to right the stretcher. "Honestly if you wanted to play a joke on me all you had to do was burst into the office." She muttered as she huffed under the weight of the stretcher. That done she brushed her hand off and again looked around the room. "Alright you jokers, you arn't funny anymore. Who knocked over that table?" Sighing she turned to head back to the office and let out a scream. "Lucas! You b*****d you scared the crap outta me!" The man chuckled and shook his head. "George sent me to get you for lunch, what are you doing in here anyways? Chasing zombies?" Asha rolled her eyes and smacked him on her way by him. "I'm never living that down am I?" She hissed. "I was fresh out of class how was I supposed to know if you didn't sever the nerves correctly that a body could sit up." She pouted.

Matthew ignored the snickers that followed him down the hall. He was well liked, and well known, so he should have seen this kind of thing happening eventually. High school was an awful place. "Hey! Matty!" called a voice from off to the side. Matthew turned his head slightly, just in time to see Racheal hook his arm in hers and smile up at him. Her friends, Sammy and Gwen, were behind her, giggling with one another. "Treat me to lunch?" Racheal asked cutely, squeezing Matthew's arm. He smiled at her, though inwardly he sighed in resignation "Sure. You two as well?" he asked, knowing quite well that they would decline, because they'd been told to before-hand by Racheal. They shook thier heads and said something about other plans. They disappeared into the crowds heading for the lunch room like a stampede of bumbling cows. Racheal on the other hand, smiled in victory and kept a tight hold of Matthew, trying to pull him out into the hall. "Just wait a minute Racheal, you'll get your lunch..." Matthew teased, knowing full well that wasn't what she wanted. She huffed and waited with him. "Heard you fell asleep in class, then fell out of your seat..." "Yeah. Bad dream." "What was it this time?" "..." "You can tell me." "Zombies again, though this time, it felt real....." Racheal laughed "You need to stop watchign all those old zombie flicks, otherwise you'll end up one" she said, poking him in the ribs through his coat. Matthew was silent, unsure of what that really meant to him.

Lucie straightened her tie, looking around the restaurant. The lunch crowd was bigger than usual that day. "Luc, I need you to grab table 7." said a short, bald man in a suit. Lucie shook her head. "Mm. No can do, Hank. I'm on my break." she said, smiling and shrugging. "Have Veector do eet. Ee's been lying around for a while." Hank nodded, wiped at his cueball noggin, then turned to bark orders at a lank man with carefully gelled hair. Lucie ducked into the kitchen, dodging chefs screaming obscenities in multiple languages and through the back door into an alley. Wally, the junior lunch chef, had ducked out of the action for a moment and was leaning against the brick wall of the alley, reading a newspaper. "'Ello, Wally." Khale greeted, inhaling the gritty city air. "Lovely day, eesn't eet?" Wally looked up and smiled. "Sarcasm, I hope. I needed a moment to regain my hearing. Vlad's been screaming at me all day." he said. Khale laughed. "Well, 'ave you seen zee crowd today? Eet's no wonder!" she giggled. "Zee man ees on a short fuse regardless." Wally shrugged, allowing that. "I'd better get inside before Vlad stabs something he shouldn't." he said, handing Lucie his paper before nodding goodbye and heading back into the melee. Lucie flipped through the paper, stopping briefly at the comics before continuing to the health section. Her brow furrowed at the headline. "Zombies Abroad? Disturbing New Findings Show Zat Zee Dead Are In Fact, Alive?" Lucie said aloud. She took a look at the title of the newspaper. The front line read: REAL UNICORN FOUND ON MADAGASCAR. She laughed and threw the magazine in the trash before heading back into the madness of the restaurant.

Asha was again bopping to her music, only now she was taking inventory, for lack of a better term, of the morgue. She checked off the names on a sheet and made sure the right body was in the right cooler. She yawned a bit as she pulled on of her head phones out, she had thought she hear George call her. Her head jerked to the wall of freezer's on the other side of the room at the sound of a moan. Frowning she looked around the room and frowned as she heard it again. She tilted her head to the side and walked towards the wall of sliver doors as she set the clipboard on the stretcher. "Is someone there?" Her only answer was another moan. She frowned and studied the wall. "George, Lucas I swear if I open on of these doors and you're in there I'm really going to kill you." She growled as she put her hand on the door, frowning she paused before opening it. Roger Finniga......wasn't that the name of the man that came in a few days ago with a bite from a bar fight?
Knowing she was probably overreacting or being silly didn't stop her from jerking her hand back as another moan erupted from behind the door. "Sorry bucko, I've seen this part of the movie. My hair isn't blond and my boobs are overly large." She muttered as she backed away. "And I am not that curious." She grabbed the clip board and quickly made her way out of the freezer room, slamming and bolting the door behind her. Looking at it for a moment she shoved and huffed as she moved the desk over in front of the door. "Laugh all you want." She told the empty air. "I may still be a student but even I know there is nothing that makes a dead and autopsied body moan."

Matthew sat with Racheal, 'helping' her with her English. More or less, that meant he was doing it for her while she fawned over him. "Honestly? Poe is one of the easiest writers to get into. Maybe not to understand, but if you just took the time t-" Racheal cut Matthew off with a wave of her hand "Forget the wet-blanket for a moment. Have you heard about that new flu goign around? People say it's supposed to be really iky and it's way contagious...." she sounded as if she was about to latch onto Matthew again and tell him to protect her. "Well, it may be, but the best thing to do is to just keep clean and m-" again, she interuppted him. "You know, the people who've died from it...." she began, messing with one of her hanging blond curls "...is that their bodies disappear, and a few people have gone missing aroudn the same time...." Matthew shivered, an ill feeling nipping at his mind "Yeah?" he asked, completely forgetting about the work Racheal was supposed to be doing. "Yeah. They say that it's a bunch of sick psychos or something. I don't think so" "Of course you don't....." Matthew said, poking at the food he'd gotten for himself, sullenly.
