. Another train rattles by, kicking up dust and litter as it blows past, disappearing into the darkness above an empty courtyard. The tracks and train station are elevated above the shadowy lawn, which itself is surrounded by small shops and restaurants streaming light out onto the grass. The soft splashing of a marble fountain slowly resurfaces as the roar of the train diminishes, and the streetlights click on belatedly in the early twilight.------------**----***----**------------

I've never actually started a roleplay before, so I decided I'd give it a (rather nonspecific) setting and then just let people run with it. Have fun!
------------**----***----**------------ A man and a young girl emerge from one of the brightly lit shops. The man seems to melt comfortably into the semidarkness, tension visibly lifting from his shoulders as he leaves the glaring brightness behind. The girl takes no notice--she is much more interested in the double-scoop ice cream cone melting in her hand. The pair make their way to the fountain and sit on its wide lip. Mimi: Are you sure you don't want any? *offers ice cream cone* Kalix: *grimaces* I'm sure. I don't understand what could possibly make you want to eat that. Mimi: *shocked* You don't like ice cream? Everyone likes ice cream! Kalix: Apparently not everyone. Try to hurry with that, won't you? Our train should be arriving shortly. Mimi: *eyeroll* You can't eat ice cream fast. You'll get a headache. Kalix: Mimi... Mimi: All right, all right... .

A lone woman (one assumed it was a woman, anyway; no man would be caught dead in that outfit in this time...right?) stood in a nice, secluded area of the station. She liked watching people, especiall if they didn't know she was watching them. She adjusted her glasses absentmindedly, and leaned forward to catch a hint of the conversation.
Something about ice cream? She wished she could get further in, but she had to catch the next train out if she was going to get anywhere. After all, she couldn't fly very far on her own, and shifting wasn't an option here. Or anywhere inhabited, really. She'd had far too many hysterics coming after her with silver weapons to be comfortable.
Oh well. At least it's not raining right now... Knock on wood. She quickly rapped on a nearby plank, and didn't care how silly it made her look. She couldn't deal with a migraine right now; she had SCIENCE to do!
She returned to watching the square beneath her, and hoped she could at least hear something this time.

Kalix's head snaps up at the sound of knuckles rapping sharply on wood. His eyes glow with reflected light as he scans the park for signs of life.
Mimi: *looks up briefly from her ice cream* What are you looking for?
Kalix: Someone just knocked on a piece of wood.
Mimi: I didn't hear anything.
Kalix: *grins* And if you don't eat healthier your hearing will never improve.
Mimi: *eyeroll* What do you suggest I eat?
Kalix: *after a short pause* I seem to remember something about vegetables being healthy...
Mimi: *exasperated sigh* They taste gross, they're hard to chew, and they get all soggy when you cook them. How can they be good for you if they're so gross you can't eat them?
Kalix: *chuckles* I take it your mother has tried this before...?
Mimi: Yeah... *in a small voice* She always told me I should eat them anyway.
Kalix: *gently* Maybe it wouldn't hurt you to try.
Mimi: *shrugs* Maybe...
Kalix: *places an awkward hand on her shoulder* Just finish your ice cream for now, agreed?

The woman was so startled she lost balance and fell onto the grass below--thankfully, not headfirst. Even fast regenerating didn't stop her from being horribly aware of a broken neck until it healed...
She stood up shakily, and quickly checked her limbs. Well, the arms are still attached. That's a good start. Hmm... Legs are functional, too; yup, I'm fine! She stretched a bit, and started to look around for a different, and much safer, area to spy from. Let's see... No trees, only easy hiding spaces are illuminated... I'm going to have to make myself known, in all my spaz-tastic glory.
Maybe it was the coat... Yeah, the coat's unlucky. That's it. She'd have to remember to give it to someone with a recent lucky streak... And here I was thinking red was a lucky color... maybe the white's killing the luck?

Kalix jumps up, sweeping Mimi onto his shoulder, at the sound of a body hitting the ground.
Mimi: *almost drops her ice cream* Hey!
Kalix: Sh. *calling out* Who's there?
Mimi: *almost drops her ice cream again; mutters under her breath* I do need to eat my vegetables...

"Oh, my! It's seems I've been caught~!" She turned to the speaker and smiled. "I'm Rags. Ignore the colon three smile, it's irrelevent to the matters at hand." She started to walk towards the speaker and started to make mental calculations of how hard he would be to incapactitate if he decided she was a threat.
Not that she wasn't ordinarily. But she didn't have any reason to dislike him at the moment, and a murder would only make things harder for her. The other person will make it harder for him to run or turn quickly... I should be able to just trip him up if it comes to that. I hope it doesn't.
((She has :3 as her default expression. If you've ever seen a picture of an actual human with that face, you know how very, very creepy it is. Not cute at all. ))

Kalix: *narrows eyes at Rags' calculating glance; mutters under his breath* Everyone seems nice to you. *@ Rags* My name is Kalix. *swings sideways, offering his right hand while putting a little distance between Mimi and the stranger* Pleased to meet you.
Mimi: *confused by Kalix's apparent distrust, but finishes her ice cream instead of saying anything*

"It's nice to meet you, Mimi!" Rags grabbed Kalix's hand and shook it like a dog with a new toy, cheerfully oblivious to any attempts to remove it. "And it's good to meet you as well, Kalix! You're very good to have noticed me watching you; most people are shocked to find out Ive been standing in front of them for twenty minutes!" She finally let go of his hand, and took a step back.
"So, where are you two headed? I've got time to kill and nowhere to go."

Rags laughed. "Kalix, that's rather the point. I have the ability to go completely unnoticed by people, although I will admit that thinking yourself invisible doesn't work if confronted with someone paranoid." She grinned at that, like it was some hilarious cosmic joke and you simply didn't get it.
"And I suggest that you answer your friend's question. It'll give me more to absorb about the area. I'm quite lost as it is. Although... wandering around would let me find an exit. It's the first time I haven't had tree chatter in my head in a long while."
