Quick Kicks: Seattle Sounders FC Forward Nate Jaqua
A child of the Northwest, Nate Jaqua returned home as soon as a Major League Soccer club arrived. Seattle Sounders FC picked up the striker in the 2009 Expansion Draft, and ever since he has been a crucial cog in the Sounders attack.
He has started all nine games up front, paired with a variety of smaller forwards, and has notched one goal and three assists.
Jaqua sat down with Goal.com to dish out some off-the-pitch goodies about himself.
Nickname: I don’t have a nickname. Nate technically is a nickname since my real name is Jonathan.
Club supported: I actually did support Barcelona when Rivaldo played there.
Strengths: Big, tall, physical players. I have decent feet that can get by people to score goals.
Weaknesses: Speed. Defense.
Soccer hero: Rivaldo. Some of the taller players. Thierry Henry.
Career highlight to date: Winning the MLS Championship in 2007 with Houston.
Biggest influence: My father who played professional football. Having that and wanting to play professional sports was interesting growing up.
Tunes on iPod: Very eclectic music. Reggae, blue grass, folk, classic rock, rock.
Dream car: I’m not a big car guy. Maybe a bicycle.
Favorite movies: Bottle Rocket, Wedding Crashers, Shawshank Redemption.
Something people don’t know about me: I grew up on a ranch out in the country. Doing cattle drives, riding horses, that sort of stuff.
In five years I’ll be: Still playing soccer. I’d be only 32-33. I still think I have five more years in my career.
