I would have to say the book "'American Theocracy" and" the book of questions". I have been influenced by more.. but theses 2 were quite compelling and an eye opener...

I cant say one book because the thing that influenced me in the book is mentioned in almost all of the authors books. Pick any book in Charles de Lint's Newford continuity and you'll have a book that influenced me.

It introduced me to the theory of consensual reality. Basically it means That the world is the way it is because we've all agreed that's the way it is and all of the mysterious phenomena that there is have always fallen through the cracks and that it takes a certain lack of cynicism to be open to such things.

I LOVE CHARLES de LINT!!!! ^^ He's the best!!! I've read The Blue Girl and Dingo's.(is that the name) When I finished them both I tried finding some of his books and couldn't.

I have one of his quote's.....oh crap what was it hold on......

AHAA!! Here's a few. I lurve these!

“Life is like art. You have to work hard to keep it simple and still have meaning.”

“I want to touch the heart of the world and make it smile.”

“It's good to have mysteries. It reminds us that there's more to the world than just making do and having a bit of fun.”

“Not everything has to mean something. Some things just are.”

“Witchery is merely a word for what we are all capable of.”

"Remember the quiet wonders. The world has more need of them than it has for warriors. "

HERE IT IS!!! ^^

"A long time ago a bunch of people reached a general consensus as to what's real and what's not and most of us have been going along with it ever since. "

"As far as I'm concerned, the only difference between fact and what most people call fiction is about fifteen pages in the dictionary. "

"I think you're all mad. But that's part and parcel of being an artistic genius, isn't it? "

"The few wonders of the world only exist while there are those with the sight to see them"

Although difficult to understand why...another book that influenced me was "Titanic an Iluustrating History" by Robert Ballard. The reason why is because when I read that book when I was in the 1st grade (yeah I know it was big book to me then sweatdrop ) It compelled me to research further. It made me more analytical and moreserene to life and its wonders... That book lead me to over a decade of research on marinetime disasters... (And a lot of money spent at book stores, assemlies, and trips). I think that book kind've shapped me into the way I am now.... acritic of both man and life.

It possibly just came at an opportune time, but I read The Mote in God's Eye by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle at a time I was discovering that I loved writing fiction. That, and the scale of the book's setting/background seem to open up new realms for me, and I point to that as helping spark my desire to write.

Earlier, I would say Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, since it was the first really adult SF book I read and helped along my love of the genre.
