In the vast world of literature there are many writers who have stood atop millions as some of the most iconic writers. Which ones do you think they are..and please give a valid reason as to why...

Well, for one, William Shakespeare. Even the most illiterate person has heard of William Shakespeare. His work appealed to people on many levels. Number two- Jane Austen. In a time where frivolous novels [and natures] were popular, her novels were the epitome of class and virtue. Many of the lessons in her novels still ring clear in today's world. That, and she was a woman making it in a man's world. Number three- Homer. There is speculation that there was no real Homer, but that is irrelevant. His most famous works are still studied all over for the classical studies and mythology. Most people have read or heard about some of the mythology involved in the Odyssey and the Iliad whether through movies or television, but without the works, we would be missing a key factor in our culture. C'mon, he basically wrote the first action hero. Number four- John Steinbeck. [Mostly because he's a personal favorite of mine whee ] His work captures a tumultuous moment in time perfectly, and yet it still has universal qualities. His descriptions are heavenly, and his characters are very lifelike. heart
And I can't think of a fifth.

I think Bram Stoker deserves some credit as a top writer. To my knowledge, he was the first person to do a vampire/horror book.
