Alrighty, hey peeps. So, here's the lowdown, I am creating an RP and need help on how to excecute. The basics are this: Story: The Sytaran race are exiles trying to reclaim their homeworld. nothing too scary there. Setting: Various locations in a galaxy. Planned form: My plan is to have each participant captain of their own ship, with me being in control of the mothership. and my own char. The participants will act in the perspective of their ship, while talk as the captain. Ships: I will have multiple classes of ships, but im not sure whether to have set looks, or let people pick their own. or even design their own. if you could weigh in on this, it would be much appreciated

I would love an RP like this except for it's hard to judge space battles in RP's, and as with all RP's it's hard to keep everyone active.
Ok, here's my questions and opinions. -How much will be in ship or on planet instead of outside ship? If it's a decent amount we need to know more about this race. Such as typical appearance and any strange powers or such. -For the mothership how big are we talking? Like space station size or basically just a supped up regular ship? Because we need to know that for the rest of the ships. -I think multiple ship classes is a good idea. I think players should be able to design their own ship using a specific set of rules and technology though. Because if we are all technically the same race it wouldn't make sense for some ships to have one type of technology that the rest don't -How about everyone submits a few ship ideas and you give us the level of tech we have to work with from ideas that you get from those designs, and then we each redo our favorite that closely resembles our limits?

1. mostly ship, I was a bit vague in my original description, I still can't describe it accuratley, It's switching between the ship as a setting and the ship as a character, if that makes sense 2. Huge, bigger than space station meb. It can manufacture all of the oter ships 3/4. should I go into a mild description of basic tech and ship classes now? or let people design ther own first?

You should come up with a basic design on the race and their level of tech before we start submitting things that way we cut back on designs that should even be drawn up. I mean there's no sense in making a ship that relies on incredible speed if the tech can't even do that.
I've got tons of designs in mind, but writing each and every one of them might be overkill if only 2 or 3 are even remotely valid.

Ships: there are 4 classes Fighters: Small, fast, with very light armor Corvettes: Larger than fighters, heavier armor and a bit slower Frigates: Workhorse of the fleet, faster and lighter than capital ships, but can hold their own in groups. Capital Ships: Largest ships in the fleet. They have the thickest armor and heaviest armament.

You're being too specific. You need to give us a quick overview not a complete weaponry list.
Also I'm thinking you should class ships after they have been designed. That way you know they all have been grouped right. Also I think a few extra ship classes should be added for npc purposes as well as people who want to play the RP a certain way. Like cargo classes. Hell if you want I can't just rip a bunch of stuff out of a game called Escape Velocity which is a very well designed space game.
EDIT: Oh and before I forget, please tell me when you are done with your list so I can ask about other tech that would possibly be workable.
Gah another thing, are we doing straight electricity or will their be sci-fi tech as well? These are kinda important.

Sorry man, I'm just so used to designing games that I have trouble being simple.
Speaking of designing games. Anyone interested helping me design a game from scratch.
I'm talking full blow with multiplayer and everything.
