Hollow (虚ホロウ, horō) are a race of creatures, which are born from Human souls who, for various reasons, do not cross over to Soul Society after their death and stay in the Human world for too long. They are corrupt spirits with supernatural powers that devour the souls of both living and deceased humans. Hollows are the principal antagonists at the beginning of the story and remain a primary threat beyond that point. Hollows settle in Hueco Mundo (Spanish, lit. Hollow World; grammatically, the phrase would be Mundo Hueco, meaning "a world that is hollow"), but can cross over to the human world and Soul Society.
Overview
Hollows are former Pluses (deceased human souls also called Holes) that lose their hearts to despair or remain in the real world for too long. In the anime, nonhuman spirits can also transform into Hollows. Any spirit that is not guided to the Soul Society by a Shinigami (aka Soul Reaper) via Soul Burial may eventually descend into a Hollow. The process by which a soul becomes a hollow usually takes months (if not longer), reflected by the length of the soul's Chain of Fate, which resides in the center of their chest. The Chain of Fate slowly corrodes over time, reflecting the degradation of the soul's ties to the living world. The process can be accelerated under certain conditions, such as being attacked by another Hollow or through the use of certain spiritual powers. When the chain completely decays, the soul is warped into a unique and monstrous form with a vaguely skeletal mask and a large hole where their chain was once connected.
The majority of ghosts peacefully move on to the Soul Society after their deaths. Some, however, stay in the living world to fulfill certain goals, such as looking after a loved one, protecting a particular location, or pursuing a grudge from beyond the grave. However, with only limited abilities to interact with the living, and by definition tied to their goals, many ghosts find they are unable to cope when their loved ones move on or old enemies forget them. At this point, some will become dangerously obsessed with fulfilling those goals, even if the means to fulfill them renders the soul empty: for example, killing anyone who comes near a loved one, in order to keep them from hurting that person. In doing so, the ghost warps into a hollow and, ironically, often makes the focus of their obsession into their first victim, such as Orihime’s brother, Sora, does. This can be prevented if a shinigami gives the soul a Soul Burial before it descends into a Hollow.
Once a soul becomes a hollow, it is driven by an eternal and insatiable hunger to devour other souls, living or dead, to fill the void caused by its descent. While their former obsession often becomes their first target, most Hollows will eventually become mindless creatures concerned only with finding the most potent souls to devour. Stronger and more evil hollows are often able to retain some of their intelligence in Hollow form, making them more dangerous than the average hollow. While most hollows are evil, or at the very least mindless, at least a few are not, as is the case with Nel Tu and her hollow companions.
The most distinctive feature of a hollow, their mask, is formed to protect the naked instinct that is left in a being after the loss of its heart, and in some ways is the tangible form of the Hollow's madness. The masks of different hollows can differ greatly in shape and form, but they are always white and skull-like. The masks also obscure the original identity of the hollows. The mask can be shattered, temporarily allowing the Hollow to regain its original identity, but it will regenerate after a short period once the Hollow takes over again.
Hollows have widely varying physical characteristics and powers, and few of them ever appear the same (the few that do are often clones). In terms of appearance, hollows can range in appearance from furry (like mammals) through lizard-like to outright demonic. A Hollow's abilities are often determined by its power. Weaker (and by definition, less intelligent) hollows usually only attack in melee style, whereas stronger ones have a wide array of abilities with which to kill their quarry. Hollows also vary in size, though it tends to be fairly consistent amongst the various classifications of menos. In Hueco Mundo, some hollows are no larger than common pets. Most common hollows are about twice the size of an adult human, though it can vary to a degree. Huge Hollows, aptly named for their size, are as large as two-story buildings. Finally, Gillian-class Menos are even more enormous than the largest of common hollows, standing as tall as a smaller skyscraper.
Hollows are usually killed by splitting their mask and head in two, but most wounds that would be fatal for a human will effectively dispatch them. When this is done by a Shinigami Zanpakutō, the hollow is not truly killed; its spirit is purified of the sins it committed as a Hollow. This allows the spirit within to enter the Soul Society as a Plus. In Cases where a hollow committed great sins as a mortal, its purification will summon the gates of Hell, through which the soul is dragged to its punishment. When a hollow is killed by a Quincy, however, it is destroyed, soul and all (presumably, its body becomes spirit particals which disperse afterwards), which has potentially disastrous effects on the spiritual balance of the worlds. The effects of other spiritual powers on Hollows, such as those of Orihime Inoue or Yasutoro (Chad) Sado, are unknown, partly because such occurrences are rare.
Demi-Hollow
A Demi-Hollow is an earthbound spirit who is evolving into a Hollow. It usually takes while for the earthbound spirit to fully transform into a Hollow, but this process can be sped up by forcing the hole in their chest to open. The Demi-Hollows are held to chains; usually somewhere they consider being their territory. They are usually only seen when a human steps on their territory and cannot be easily sensed by Shinigami.
Menos
However, most Hollows are simply transformed human souls, a sub-group of Hollows known as Menos (メノス, menosu; Spanish for "minus" or "less"), exist. Menos are conglomerations of hundreds of normal Hollows, resulting in a single composite entity of far greater strength than any normal Hollow. Menos-class Hollows are considered so dangerous that Soul Society sends only highly trained Shinigami teams to handle them. These incursions seem to be rare, however, as Menos rarely leave Hueco Mundo unless attracted by large sources of spiritual power or encouraged to by other forces.
Menos are created when the void within an ordinary Hollow's heart becomes so substantial that human souls are incapable of sustaining it, at which point it begins devouring fellow Hollows. These cannibal Hollows are attracted to one another, and a mass inter-devouring follows, resulting in a Gillian. Following this transformation, the Gillian can evolve twice more, first into an Adjuchas and finally into a Vasto Lorde, provided certain conditions be met. Menos evolution is not only contingent upon the Menos eating other Hollows, but also upon the Menos' ability to avoid being eaten. If another Hollow succeeds in devouring even a part of their body, evolution becomes impossible for the one, which was wounded this way.
Gillian
Gillian (ギリアン, girian; Spanish for "countless creatures"), also called Menos Grande ("less big" or "big minus" in Spanish) are the weakest class of Menos and the first stage of Menos evolution. They are giant in comparison to other Hollows, dwarfing even the largest standard Hollows by at least the size of a two-story building, but lack agility and intelligence. While a Gillian-class Menos is quite powerful, they are still much weaker than a Shinigami lieutenant. According to Toshiro Hitsugaya, they are comparable to "foot-soldiers", reflected in their uniform appearance. In Soul Society, Menos Grande are shown in textbooks discussing Menos. Up to the point when Rukia meets Ichigo, she has only seen them in such textbooks.
Though Gillians usually have no personality to speak of, which makes them dangerous since they have no mind of their own, one of the many Hollows that comprise it might gain control over the new entity, reflected in the unique mask it wears in comparison to a normal Gillian. Only these Gillian variants have the potential to evolve into Adjuchas-class Menos. The evolution is facilitated by the continued cannibalization of fellow Hollows, even other Gillians.
Aaronier Arruruerie is the only Gillian to have become as powerful as an Adjuchas without changing into one. This happened due to him having the unique ability of totally absorbing other Hollows, thus gaining all of their powers and abilities and, because of that, being able to unlimitedly become more powerful.
Adjuchas
Adjuchas (アジューカス, ajūkasu; Spanish for "stone demon" Japanese for "intermediate great hollow") are the middle class of Menos in terms of power, and the second stage in the Menos evolution. Adjuchas can vary radically in appearance, anywhere from bulky humanoids to the jaguar-like form of Grimmjow Jeagerjaques. Unlike the Gillians, they are roughly human-sized though a few like Po could be much bigger. They are also much smarter than the Gillian class, and have the power to match and/or even exceed. It is likely they could fight evenly with at least a Shinigami lieutenant. They watch over the many Gillian-class Menos and in the anime are also capable of controlling them, or at the least those put in charge by Sosuke Aizen.
Adjuchas-class Menos are much smaller in population compared to the Gillian class, due to the rarity of any one hollow being capable of overwhelming the many other Hollows that comprise the body of a Gillian. Furthermore, the Adjuchas must continue to devour Hollows, or its mind will be absorbed by the other Hollows comprising its form and it will revert into a Gillian. The subsequent lack of an individual will also preclude the reverted Gillian from becoming an Adjuchas again.
Vasto Lorde
Vasto Lorde (ヴァストローデ, vasuto rōde; Spanish for "enormous king", Japanese for "Great/Grand king of the Hollows") are the very most powerful class of Menos, and the final stage in the Menos evolutionary line. They appear almost completely humanoid, and each and every one can easily defeat a Captain-Class Shinigami; Tōshirō claims that ten of them under Sōsuke Aizen's control would be enough to defeat all of Soul Society. This is no small coincidence, as Aizen himself states to Gin Ichimaru that he needs to gather enough Vasto lordes to complete his ten-member Espada It seems that Aizen has important plans with them, but the details haven't been revealed. Also, Stark, Barragan Luisenbarn, and Halibel are assumed to be Vasto Lorde and Ulquiorra is heavily implied to have been one; this assumption is supported by the fact that his mask fragments resemble the one shown in silhouette of a Vasto Lorde.
Vasto Lorde are the least common form of Menos, but the exact population is unknown. Toshiro stated that there only a known few, and they are believed to reside within the very deepest parts of Hueco Mundo. Apart from the need to cannibalize even more Hollows, any special requirements for the creation of a Vasto Lorde are unknown.
Powers
Like Shinigami, Hollows have a multitude of combat skills and abilities, most of which are usually unique to specific Hollows. The more powerful Hollows, however, have access to a range similar techniques of greater power or use than their own unique skills. Hollows usually acquire energy to power their abilities by devouring souls, but smaller ones can also ingest energy from the atmosphere when in realms with high concentration of spiritual energy, such as Hueco Mundo.
Cero- Cero is a high-powered, swift energy blast that can be fired from various body parts, such as mouth, tongue, hand or fingers. Only Menos, Arrancar, and Vizard have so far been shown to use Cero attacks, and it appears that stronger entities can use it more efficiently and forcefully. Ceros may also destroy a planet if enough high level Hollows as an army uses enough spiritual energy as a whole. The cero requires some time to be used effectively so the enemy must be either not moving or busy with something else.
Gran Rey Cero- (王虚の閃光, グラン・レイ・セロ, guran rei sero; Japanese for "royal hollow flash", Spanish for "grand king zero") is an Espada-exclusive Cero. It is performed by mixing an Arrancar's own blood with the Cero. The result is a Cero with a much greater attack power and speed as well as a change of color unique to the Espada.
Cero Doble- Spanish for "double zero" is a variation performed by Nel Tu, by swallowing her opponent's Cero and returning it back to the user along with her own.
Garganta- (黒腔, ガルガンタ, Garuganta; Japanese for "black cavity," Spanish for "throat") is how Hollows and arrancar move to and from Hueco Mundo. Kaname Tōsen and Kisuke Urahara have also demonstrated the ability to use the technique. It literally tears open the dimensional fabric separating the worlds, revealing a tunnel of whirling, torrential energy that must be focused and solidified to create a discernible pathway.
Negación- (反膜, ネガシオン, Negashion; Japanese for "counter membrane," Spanish for "negation") fields are used to rescue fellow Hollows. Only the Gillian-class Menos have shown the ability to use it. Negación fields surround a target in a square beam of light that isolates the target from the dimension they are currently in, making it impossible to harm them. The field then pulls the target towards the menos that created the field. Espada have a special cube-shaped device called Caja Negación (Spanish for "Negation Box") meant to simulate Negación fields, which are used to punish their subordinates if necessary. The cube, when used on a subject, traps them in an alternate dimension from which there is no escape; however, this assumes it's being used as intended. More powerful arrancar, namely the Espada themselves, can escape given enough time.
High-Speed Regeneration- is the ability that allows a hollow to heal any injuries very quickly. Hollows outside of the Menos class who exhibit this
Arrancar
An Arrancar is a Hollow that has removed its mask and thus gained Shinigami-like powers. The word Arrancar comes from the Spanish verb meaning "to remove" or "to rip
Off".Few Hollows have the potential to remove their masks naturally, and even if they manage to do so, the change may not be significant. Sosuke Aizen is able to artificially create Arrancar with the Hogyoku, which also unlocks much more of their potential than a natural transformation would. The process of turning a Hollow into an Arrancar is called Shinigamification
Arrancar and ordinary Hollows differ in several ways:
Arrancar assume a humanoid body, as opposed to the animal-like or monstrous forms seen from Hollows. Upon becoming an Arrancar, the chances of a Hollow retaining a humanoid form increase with their intelligence; only Vasto Lorde-class Menos will definitely assume a humanoid form. This new form will retain remnants of their past selves, like fragments of their removed masks and a Hollow hole. While some Arrancar prefer to conceal these remnants (such as Nnoitra and Halibel), others (like Aaronier) hide their faces completely to escape unwanted attention.
Arrancar can gain a Zanpaktou. Unlike with Shinigami, this Zanpakutō is not sentient, but simply their "true" Hollow form sealed into a sword. Therefore, an Arrancar's release of their Zanpakutō is merely a temporary restoration to their former selves, granting them any powers their Hollow form possesses. The act of release is called Resurrección (Spanish for "resurrection"), which is activated with a command phrase followed by the name of the sword. The Resurrección of Espada-level Arrancar releases enough power to be comparable to a Shinigami's Bankai. Few Arrancar do not have a Zanpakutō, being too weak to seal their excess power into a blade, while others prefer to have it constantly released, as with Iceringer and Demora
The Arrancar under Aizen's command have a standard theme for their clothing. Their uniforms consist of a white jacket, black sash, white hakama, and black and white shoes that resemble sandals; in essence, the uniforms are basically inverted Shinigami uniforms.
Arrancar ranks
Espada- (十刃（エスパーダ）; Spanish for "sword") are the top-ranked Arrancar in Aizen's army. The Espada at the time of the group's introduction consists of nine males and one female. Each Espada member is chosen for their superior combat ability and then assigned a number from 1 to 10 that indicates their rank and relative power level, which is tattooed somewhere on their body (Grimmjow's is on his lower back, for instance). The Espada are given control over the Números and are regarded as the strongest Arrancar in existence. Similar to the power gap between captains and lieutenants in the Gotei 13, the strength of the Espada far surpasses that of the average Número. As Aaronier Arruruerie notes, all of the Espada except him were at least Adjuchas-class menos before becoming Arrancar. The Espada are listed below.

Privaron Espada- Spanish for "deprived sword") are former Espada who have officially lost their rank and are assigned a three-digit number. Being former Espada, they are far stronger than the normal Números. They reside in the part of Las Noches called Tres Cifras, which translates literally from Spanish as "three digits". As mentioned by Dordonii, these former "naturally created" Espada were rendered obsolete after Aizen began artificially creating Arrancar to meet his own standards. It is also noted that Aaronier arruruerie was one of the original Espada, but his original number was not mentioned since it is possible he was demoted to a lower number in accordance to the arrival of more powerful Espada.
Números- (数字持ち（ヌメロス）; Spanish for "numbers") are the combat specialists. They are assigned a two digit number at birth from 11 to 99 to indicate their age (Número 11 is the oldest, Número 99 is the youngest). The basic Número uniform consists of a white-collared jacket and robes held with a black sash. However, the uniform is customizable, giving each Número a sense of individuality. The fighting ability of Números is thought to be superior to all other Arrancar, except for the Espada (current and former).
Fracción- (従属官（フラシオン）; Spanish for "fraction") are a subsection of the Números that directly serve a specific Espada. The number of Fracción for any given Espada varies: Stark and Nnoitra Jiruga would seem to have just one, while Szayel Aporro Granz has at least a dozen. There are a few Espada that apparently prefer to fight alone, such as Yammy, Zommari Leroux, Ulquarra Schiffer and Aaroniero, seem to have chose not to have any Fracción under their command.
Exequias- (葬討部隊（エクセキアス）; Spanish for "funeral") are Arrancar that are part of the execution division, apparently charged with termination of intruders and rebels. They are the equivalent of Soul Society's Onmitsukidō. Their captain is the bull-headed Rudobon
Arrancar Powers
Like Shinigami, Arrancar have a multitude of combat skills and abilities, some of which are similar to those of the former, and some of which are variations on ordinary Hollow powers.
Bala- (虚弾（バラ）, bara; Spanish for "bullet", also translated as "Hollow Bullet") is an Arrancar alternative to Cero. The technique hardens the user's Spiritual Pressure and fires it like a bullet from their fist. It is seriously weaker than a normal cero, it moves about twenty times faster and can be fired at a much higher rate, but the damage is much the same.
Cero- are high-powered energy blasts that can be fired from various body parts, such as mouth, tongue, hand or fingers. Only Menos, Arrancar, and the Vizards have so far been shown to use Cero attacks, and it appears that stronger entities can use it more efficiently.

Hierro-(鋼皮（イエロ）, hiero; Spanish for "iron") refers to the hardened skin of the Arrancar, which is a result of their compressed Spiritual Power. While their skin is strong enough to block even released Zanpakutō barehanded, it is by no means impenetrable. Stronger Arrancar have proportionally stronger skin.
Negación- (反膜（ネガシオン）, negashion; Spanish for "negation") fields are used to rescue fellow Hollows. Only the Gillian-Class Menos have shown the ability to use it. Pesquisa- (探査回路（ペスキス）, Pesukisa; Spanish for "inquiry") is the Arrancar equivalent of the Shinigami ability to sense Spiritual Pressure. It functions similar to a sonar.
Sonído- (響転（ソニード）, Sonīdo; Spanish for "sound") is the Arrancar equivalent of the Shinigami Flash Steps and the Quincy Hirenkyaku; it allows the user to travel at incredibly high speeds for short distances. Use of Sonído is punctuated by a brief static sound, in contrast to the "swish" sound caused by Flash Steps.
Vizard
The Vizard are a group of Shinigami who have been banished from Soul Society for illegally obtaining Hollow powers.
Overview
The Vizards are the antithesis to the Arrancar, Shinigami who have obtained Hollow powers. Having begun as Shinigami, the vizards appear entirely human, and barring those times where they are using their powers are indistinguishable from ordinary Shinigami. To gain access to their Hollow powers, a vizard dons a Hollow mask. This allows them to augment their Shinigami abilities with Hollow powers, as well as giving them access to some of the generic Hollow abilities. Their spiritual pressure likewise changes into a mix of Hollow and Shinigami. This process of donning one's Hollow mask is referred to as "Hollowification".
It is unclear what the vizards are after. The current members of the vizards have been shown to be former Captain or Lieutenant Class Shinigami. They are considered criminals by the Soul Society for committing the ultimate taboo of acquiring Hollow powers; their status as former leaders of Soul Society also marks them as traitors. The vizards are also rejected by Hollows, due to their former status as Shinigami. It is because of this that it can be presumed that the only side the vizards are on is their own. Regardless, they seem to be valuable allies-to-be in the battle against Sosuke Aizen’s army of arrancars, as Kisuke Urahara mentioned. The vizards have not shown any sort of hierarchy, seeming to prefer a loose-knit organization.
Powers & Abilities
Vizard Mask: The Vizard remains in complete control while wearing their masks, unlike Ichigo's early unstable transformations. As suggested by Aizen, the fusion of the two spiritual entities allows these Shinigami to reach levels of power far surpassing that of either Hollow or Shinigami.
The Vizard use their Hollow powers to augment their existing Shinigami abilities, granting them massive increases in speed, stamina, and strength.

Cero: They also gain access to some Hollow abilities, such as the Cero blast.
Mask Shielding: Bodily harm can seemingly be ignored while wearing their masks, as demonstrated by Ichigo's Hollow during his unwilling transformations. The Hollow mask can only be maintained for a certain period before its effects wear off: Ichigo can only hold his transformation for short periods (eleven seconds at first), while the other Vizard can go up to several hours without tiring.
Power Augmentation: with the acquisition of the mask via the subjugation of ones inner Hollow. A Vizard gains access to an additional and separate source of power, in addition to the Shinigami powers one already possesses. The accumulation of both powers together greatly augments the powers of the Vizard beyond what a Shinigami or Hollow alone would be capable of.
The Vizard' Zanpakutō function in the same manner as those of standard Shinigami; however, none of them have explicitly used their releases in combat yet, excluding Ichigo and Kensei. The Vizard seems to prefer their Hollow-like powers to their Shinigami abilities.
Creation Process
While it is made clear how Ichigo gained his Hollow powers, it is not shown exactly how the other Vizard gained theirs. What is known is that Aizen was instrumental in the Hollowfication process, through how they gained their current status as vizards is unknown, but most likely involves the direct intervention of Urahara.
Shinji hints that Ichigo's conflict with his inner Hollow is a common symptom, however. Aside from the dangerous method used by Urahara, the Hogyoku could allow a Shinigami to use Hollow powers, but it has only been shown doing the opposite. However, Urahara is known to have used the orb to try to return the Vizard to their previous selves, although the first attempt failed, him using the orb did turn them into more complete hybrids, which allowed them to eventually control their new power.
Characters
There are eight known vizards aside from Ichigo Kurosaki. Five of these are men and the other three are women. Three vizards speak kansai-ben, a dialect spoken in Osaka and Kyoto. All vizards are former Shinigami Captains or Lieutenants from approximately 100 years before the main storyline.
Shinji Hirako
Shinji Hirako (平子 真子, Hirako Shinji) is the former Captain of the 5th Division, preceding his Lieutenant Sosuke Aizen, and the unofficial leader of the vizards. While he initially appears trying to recruit Ichigo into their ranks, he is shown giving orders once Ichigo decides to accept the offer. An early design of Shinji can be seen in the first chapter's cover art, making it clear he was planned well before his introduction. Shinji's character is somewhat comical, adding a bit of levity to situations that are otherwise serious. He seems to like annoying his associate, Hiyori Sarugaki, which usually earns him a slap from one of her sandals. He also appears to have a history of referring to cute girls he meets as his 'first love'; complete with a deadpan look on his face despite the obvious lie (he apparently never did this with Hiyori, further annoying her). One of his previous acclaimed crushes was Lisa Yodomaru, a fellow visored, and his current is Orihime Inoue. During several points in the anime, Shinji's outfit is depicted to look like Lupin the III, likely as a homage on the part of the animators.
Shinji's Hollow mask resembles a pharaoh's mask. Shinji is very skilled with his Hollow powers, using Cero blasts to easily deal with Grimmjow Jeagerjaques. The video games also depict him being able to split the Cero blasts into a pyramid shaped attack. Not much has been revealed about Shinji's Zanpakutō, as he rarely uses or even visibly wears it. The hilt and sheath are red. None of his release states have been shown, and the times that he does seriously fight, he seems to rely more on his Hollow mask.
Love Aikawa
Love Aikawa (愛川 羅武（ラヴ）Aikawa Ravu), former Captain of the 7th Division, is a tall man sporting sunglasses, a spiked afro, and a jogging suit. He seems to be very laid back, usually reading Shōnen Jump or some of Lisa's erotic manga in his spare time. He and Rose seem to be close friends. His Zanpakutō hilt is in the shape of a heart, and he carries its sheath on a tōju hanging from his shoulder like a messenger bag. His zanpakuto's name has not been revealed nor it's abilities
Kensei Muguruma
Kensei Muguruma (六車 拳西, Muguruma Kensei) is a Vizard and a previous Captain of the Gotei 13. He served as the 9th division Captain with his Lieutenant Mashiro Kuna.
Mashiro Kuna
Mashiro Kuna (久南 白, Kuna Mashiro) is the former Lieutenant of the 9th Division under Kensei. A somewhat ditzy girl who wears a white bodysuit and goggles in her green hair. Her overall style of dress is reminiscent of the costumes worn by the tokusatsu superheroes of late 1950s Japanese television, perhaps meant as a contrast between her age and childish appearance. She was able to maintain her Hollow mask for fifteen hours on her first attempt to control her Hollow, which means she did not need to train like the other visored. She often calls Ichigo Berry-tan, a play on Ichigo's name. She seems to be good friends with Hachigen Ushoda, taking an instant disliking to Orihime Inoue when Hachi befriends her.
Rose
Rose (ローズ, Rōzu) was the former Captain of the 3rd Division. He became Captain approximately one year before Kisuke Urahara. He is an effeminate man with long, wavy, blond hair and a frilly shirt. He seems to be interested in music, as he speaks to Love about an artist's new single and has been seen playing or tuning a guitar on several occasions. Rose appears to be one of the calmer and perhaps wiser ones amongst the group, though he becomes irritated whenever Love spoils a manga's story for him. His Zanpakutō hilt is in the shape of a diamond with curved edges, and its sheath is encrusted with diamonds.
Hiyori Sarugaki
Hiyori Sarugaki (猿柿 ひよ里, Sarugaki Hiyori) was the former 12th Division Lieutenant under Captains Kirio Hikifune and Kisuke Urahara. She is a tiny, blonde-haired girl with a fierce temper and violent tendencies. Her hair is worn in pigtails and she wears a red jogging outfit (which is decorated with the first kanji of her name). She also has a tiny fang on the left side of her mouth. Hiyori often abuses Shinji Hirako, usually by slapping him with one of her sandals. She also has even made it a reflex to use him as a human shield when necessary. This behavior dates back to her time as a Lieutenant, despite the fact that Shinji outranked her then. She viewed Hikifune as a mother figure, and thus refused to accept Urahara as her replacement.
Hiyori took the longest to defeat her inner Hollow out of all the current visoreds (excluding Ichigo, who took about the same amount of time), at 69 minutes and 2 seconds. Hiyori's Zanpakutō is standard in appearance with her tsuba decorated in small hearts, a contrast to her not-so-girlish personality. She normally wears her sword from her right shoulder, like Ichigo. Her Hollow mask is rhinoCeros-like in appearance, sporting a prominent horn centered near the forehead.
Hachigen Ushoda
Hachigen Ushōda (有昭田 鉢玄, Ushōda Hachigen) is the physically largest visored. He was formerly the Lieutenant of the Kido Corps under Tessai Tsukabishi. He wears a tuxedo and has a black crossbone design in his pink hair. He is usually referred to as Hachi (ハッチ, sometimes translated as 'Hutch') He seems to be a binding spells expert, since he is always tasked with making barriers and such for the visoreds' use. By his own admission, his powers are similar to those of Orihime Inoue's. Despite his unusual size, Hachi is actually very kind and gentle and seems to enjoy Orihime's company.
Lisa Yodomaru
Lisa Yodomaru (矢胴丸 リサ, Yadōmaru Risa) was the former Lieutenant of the 8th Division under Captain Shunsui Kyoraku. She is a girl with glasses and long, braided, dark hair, who dresses in a sailor fuku, as opposed to the more Western-style uniforms worn by the students of Kara Kura High School. In consistency with her current appearance, her Shinigami uniform during her time in the Gotei 13 had a shortened hakama resembling a skirt. She seems easily irritated and apparently likes to read erotic manga (specifically, Josei manga). Her Zanpakutō is considerably longer than most, making it appear like a nōdachi. She appears to be ambidextrous, initially wielding her Zanpakutō with her left hand and then switching to her right during her fight with Ichigo
