The new games are called...
Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver!!!
They are due out in Japan this fall.
That means probably a Spring 2010 release for the states.
Here's hoping for a February release.

No.
FR/LG didn't have a new gen, so I don't expect HG/SS to have one.
Probably we'll see another new area, like the Sevii Islands, where you can catch out-of-gen Pokémon. I expect an extension of Cianwood Island, but that's probably just my hopes talking.
Anyone else have a wishlist for the new game?

Well, if they did have a new generation, then Ash and co. would be way farther in the TV series. Not that I watch it or anything... ;-;
But yeah. I've never played Gold or Silver. I know every single Pokemon in the game, just never played it. It's Johto, right? Yup, probably.
I guess I'll buy it then. Maybe...

I'm totally, definitely, like OMG, buying it the DAY it comes out here!!!!! I've been waiting for this day since FR/LG!!! I am so freaking excited...you have no idea
AND it's going to come out on the DS (if they don't come out with a new system before then sweatdrop hehehe...DSi doesn't count though XP)) Which means totally cool new graphics too. Better than FR/LG even!
I think this game will come out soon enough though, that I think I can probably set up the Johto region in this guild to coincide with the new games. Actually, who am I kidding? I totally plan to do that! lol

Yep.
I expect very few changes to detract from the original, since it was almost a perfect game in itself (Hint: big Johto fan), but more areas and cameos would really bring the bar up. However, there are limits.
I hope they don't sub the Pokétch in for the Pokégear. 'gear makes the 'tch look like a wallflower at a high school dance.

I always hated pressing start to see my Pokemon health so I just keep it on that application to see the health.

Pokegear is like da bomb! Its like a radio AND a phone along with other things the Poketch wishes it could live up to xd

Definitely.
I cried when they took away the Pokégear in RSE and gave us the Pokénav. I hated it so much.
If the 'tch returns, I want phone and radio apps. Along with an improved Breeding app.

Yeah definitely. But I don't think they could rightfully use the poketch in this game because remake or not, it is still pretty much the old game. And the poketch is solely a Sinnoh item. I'm hoping they keep the Pokegear, but maybe add a few spiffy new touches or something.

Yeah. I want the old apps with the new functionality.
Because the 'tch did have some good things, like the Berry Finder and the one thing where you see your the health of all your 'mon.
But I can't wait to hear that classic ring and get a call from Mom saying she bought me a Super Potion.
That reminds me. I hope the PC storage returns instead of having a truly limitless bag. I hated carrying those Plates around in DP. I want to have what I want in my bag, when I want it.

Oh yeah, that was just a mess! It was so hard to find anything in your bag! You had to scroll forever...I hope they put that back too
But OMG mom! Lol I remember the first time I ever got that call. I was like, WTF!? MOM!? You were supposed to be SAVING my money!! Why are you spending it!? LOL

Exactly. Or the random Bug Catcher who would give you berries if you talked to him. Or the Bike Shop telling you the bike paid for itself, or Prof. Elm freaking out over your rival stealing a Pokémon.
The text in those convos were almost as funny as a Paper Mario game.
