I'm trying to replace the internal battery of my Pokemon Crystal. I already bought a CR2025 battery, exactly like the original one inside the cartridge. I've seen basically two types of tutorials for this: Using a soldering iron, using tape or a combination of both. I want to find the safest (for my game) and somewhat easiest method of fixing it.
Here's what I've done so far:
Opened up my Silver (I originally was going to fix Silver but I think the circuit board is too damaged, personally, I think it's fine. So now it's my guinea pig.). I removed the old battery, while leaving the tabs intact. I taped the new battery to the tabs, then taped that to the board. Put the plastic covers back together. Tried it out on my GBA, GBC logo appears, fades, then nothing else shows up. I gave up on Silver and procceded with Crystal (which I have two copies of).
I did the same process with Crystal. I tried it out on my GBA. GBC logo comes and goes, Start up screen appears, I start a new game, save then turn it off. I turn it back on and see no "Continue". I did it several more times and concluded that it's the contact with the tabs and the battery.
The only solution I can think of is somehow weld the tabs and the battery together and then into the board. The only thing that concerns me is the heat the welding will give and may result in damaging (or exploding) the battery. And the board itself.
I don't know anymore..... gonk I really need some tips or any help for that matter.
