Today's Teachy Topic: Mary Sues and how they make people like Juju hate fanfiction

Why does Juju hate fanfiction so much?
Why?
Because of the introduction of a new character who's overly perfect and powerful?
Definition of Mary Sue:They are the most beautiful, interesting, perfect, athletic, with the most interesting name everrr. Everything the author's not. If it's a male character it's a Gary Stu. A Mary Sue is a collection of everything the author's not because the author fails at life.
A Mary Sue sometimes falls in love with a character the author fantasizes about in an existing series, and can kill off that character's girlfriend/wife to make room for their selfish self so they can get married to that character.

For example, people want to marry Vincent Valentine from Final Fantasy 7. So they make a FF7 fanfic about fluffy love between the author's made up character based on themselves except better in every way and pair him/her with Vincent. They warp existing characters like Vincent to be so out of character, being waaaaay to loving and gentle and anorexic and effeminate because fangirls love anorexic bishounens. And Vincent totally forgets about Lucrecia and the made up Mary Sue happily make love with Vincent in their dream mansion in Beverly Hills and have their perfectly beautiful offspring named Shah-nay-nay and the Mary Sue goes saves the world all by herself because she's like omnipresent and perfect and wishes to be the ultimate hokage of Shamballa using the Master Sword given to her by Princess Selenity.

Juju loves big manly 30 year old men but that's another story. biggrin

I never want to read a fanfic ever again. (Unless if it's comedy, then it's cool)

I had to edit a friend's fanfic about Rurouni Kenshin, where Kenshin falls in love with a made up character named Sayo Himura that's obviously based on the author so they can fulfill their sick lil fantasies. Sayo is a samurai of the 18th century who does alchemy Full Metal Alchemist style(Um what?) and is mega emo. Plus Kenshin's girlfriend is brutally slaughtered in her fanfic because she hates anyone who "tries to steal her husband Kenshin." I like Kaoru. ): Why kill her man? Jealous playah hate-uhs. D:

RANT OVER!!! I'm sorry I really needed to get that off my chest, it's perfectly fine that anyone writes fanfics. Just... Keep them to yourselves for my sake PLEASE! (nuclear warheads pour violently out of my mouth while yelling while flame spills from my eye sockets and bullets shoot from my ears)

Mmm it's in my opinion that I don't like fanfics generally but my friend asks me to revise her 'fics, that's why I read some of them.
I'd love fanfics if they can REALLY make me care about the new character. Or if the characters aren't too out of character. I like fanfics, but the point of this thread IS THAT I HATE MARY SUES!!! AAAAAAHHH GODDAMN SELFISH WARPED PORTRAYAL!!!! I understand a Mary Sue is a good way to boost your self esteem but I'd appreciate if people don't show me their Mary Sues.

You bet a million? Looks like I won a million because I admitted I love 30 year old dudes in my post in this thread heehee ^-^ I also admitted I love my half brother in another thread. I didn't say I didn't like fictional guys. But I don't write fanfics or even imagine em. O_o
