Emily's door is always open to students that need her, but she makes no promises that she will always be there. She doesn't like being cooped up anywhere.

~Emily A. Wixom~

Emily got to her office, slammed the door shut, flung her half written letters aside, and fell into the armchair by the window where she resumed her crying. She made no effort to keep them silent anymore. She really hadn't asked for any of this. She hadn't asked to be a Professor last year. Conan had asked her and she had about fainted from shock. Then she had been asked to teach Domestic Charms and she couldn't tell him no. She couldn't leave people in need like that so she had taken it. This year she had decided she really couldn't and so mustered the courage to tell him no. Then she had been asked to be Deputy Head. She hadn't asked for that. She was too young. She had told Conan when he asked her that she was too young and he would be better off asking Daniel or John to do it. He hadn't listened and now she was taking the heat for it. She wasn't wonder woman, and she had no fight left in her. It was only the first day of school and she had no fight left in her. This year wasn't going to be pretty.

~Emily A. Wixom~

Emily had had an extremely long day. No it hadn't been a bad day, just long and exhausting. As soon as she had gotten to her office Emily had flopped down on a siesta sack she had put into her office. She just lay there, sprawled out in exhaustion, not having even bothered to close her door. Everyone would be headed to dinner anyways, she didn't need to worry about it too bad. She didn't hear the approaching footsteps, and didn't even notice anyone being at her office until she heard a rap on her door. Her eyes flew open in shock, and when she saw Daniel and Annaliese there that quickly changed to horror as she jumped to her feet and pushed a stray piece of hair behind her ear, her face going a shade of red to match her hair. "Uh, good afternoon Annaliese, Daniel. What can I do for you this afternoon?" She saw Daniel wave his hand as if motion someone, and cocked her head to the side in confusion. Then she saw Ricky and Scarlett looking a disaster and her eyes narrowed. With a glare at the two students she barked out her words. "Explain." She then saw Daniel hold up two badges and she pursed her lips. "That bad huh? Well then I guess I'll give the Professors a chance to explain instead." Emily was doing her best to control her voice as she looked at the Professors.

~Daniel Blackburn~

Daniel and Annaliese had walked to Emily's office with Scarlett and Ricky in tow. When he saw the woman sprawled out he couldn't help a snarl. He didn't approve of Connan's choice in a Deputy Head. He thought this woman too high strung, and that wasn't a good quality when being a leader. Sure she was strong and had gotten Hogwarts through the disaster with Carolyn Walker, but that didn't mean she could lead the school as the Deputy Headmistress. He hadn't said anything however, but she was making it harder. The fact that she had been cruciated, saved by a 3rd year Hufflepuff, and had to be carried around the remainder of the Hogsmeade attack had made his dislike for the woman even more. She was a great girl, kind, sweet, gentle, loving... but just not cut out for this job. When he showed her Scarlett and Ricky and he saw her angry, he held up the badges he had taken. He saw the color in her face rise, and upon hearing her words explained what had happened and the punishments they had decided on.

Annaliese Zanbrecher

Annaliese walked into Emily's office and was surprised to see her sprawled out onto the small couch she had set up in her office. She was even more surprised to see Daniel snarl at Emily; surely he couldn't hate the Headmistress, now could he? Annaliese decided to push that thought aside for later as she listened to Emily and Daniel and added in parts of the story that Daniel had left out or gotten wrong. Then she added, "Sanders also had ze nerve to talk back und curse at me. Daniel and I felt it vould be appropriate to tell you about zis and find out if you had any other punishments for zese two besides vhat ve have already given zem. Ve vould also love to hear your thoughts on zeir actions. I must say, Daniel and I are both deeply embarrassed by zeir actions, me for having had it happen in mein classroom, and Daniel for being zeir Head of House." Annaliese kept an impassive face, but in her words she meant that she wanted to see blood run, no matter what the price.

~Richard S. Sanders~

Ricky had followed quietly, and upon having to stand in front of the Headmistress he couldn't help but shuffle his feet from nerves. This woman was the nicest Professor here, but when pissed off she could be one of the harshest. He winced as the Professors explained what had happened, and groaned when Zanbrecher said he had cursed at the woman. Emily didn't hold with such language, and as if proof of that, he saw Emily raise her wand, and immediately after started gagging on soap bubbles. Ricky hated this spell with a passion, having gotten it quite a bit from his mother. He had learned to tone it down in her presence, and done the same in Emily's. Now he sat gagging as he tasted the soap and tried to spit it out. Of course he couldn't however, and with each try more bubbles came. He wanted to apologize, but couldn't speak while his mouth was getting washed.

~Emily A. Wixom~

Emily had been angry by the time Daniel started speaking. When Annaliese said that Ricky had cursed at her however she lifted her wand, and silently sent a spell that would wash Ricky's mouth out. "We'll start with that Sanders, and see how you feel about that kind of language after 10 minutes." Emily took a deep breath to keep herself from doing something she would regret. "You both make me sick with your welcome to a brand new Professor. Professor has taken a heavy pride cut for me by transferring to Hogwarts where she has so little options for punishment. Believe you me, I'm currently wishing physical punishment was allowed because so help me, I would turn her lose. I stand behind both Professor's decisions to revoke your badges, and you are both banned from any extracurricular activities. Yes Sanders, that means Quidditch. You've both lost it all for the rest of the year, and you can say goodbye to Auror school as well because to even get accepted you need a letter of recommendation from both the Headmaster, and your Head of House. I may be neither, but unless Headmaster Dasklin returns and see's fit to give you one, I know you will not get one from even me. I can't speak for Professor Blackburn. I will tell you what letters I will write however. I'll write letters to both of your parents and make sure they are in the post before tonight. Congratulation's on getting your wand confiscated Sanders. Professor Zanbrecher, feel free to keep it until he can show you he deserves it. I don't care if it takes the entire 2 months or longer. He'll just have to figure out how to get through classes without it. Especially my class since they use it everyday." Emily's rant finally ended as she racked her brain for a punishment that would alleviate at least a little of the blow to Annaliese's pride for not being able to whip or cruciate the students in front of her. "Alright you two, lets see if you've learned anything in History of Magic. You both know Harry Potter right? Good, well rack your little brains and see if you can remember what punishment the woman from the ministry inflicted upon Harry in detention." She saw Ricky's eyes go wide and shake his head violently, his mouth still full of soap and she nodded. "That's it Sanders. Professor Zanbrecher, if you can hunt down two very special quills that would carve the message to these two, I will not stand in your way. It just might satisfy your call for blood since we can do nothing else."

Scarlett Eaves

Scarlett stood with her head hung as Professors Blackburn and Zanbrecher began telling Professor Wixom what had happened in eighth period Potions that day. Scarlett flinched for the umpteenth time that day when Professor Wixom expressed her disgust with her and Ricky and began setting down further punishments. Scarlett felt saddened to be banned from Quidditch; she loved watching the sport and had even tried out for the team, but had been rejected because...well, she really didn't know why. Her tryout for Seeker had gone perfectly, but they had chosen someone else over her. She still loved going to the games, though, and hearing that she would not be able to enjoy the majority of the games in her last term at Hogwarts just made it all that much worse. She heard something much worse than not being able to attend Quidditch matches, though: not being able to get into Auror school. The notion of Professor Wixom refusing to write a letter of recommendation for either of them made Scarlett fall to her knees in defeat. Becoming an Auror had been her life goal ever since her second year when she learned more about them. Now, she might as well give up on her dream because she knew for a fact Professor Blackburn would follow Professor Wixom's example and also refuse to write her a letter of recommendation as well. Scarlett heard no more of Professor Wixom's rant as she bowed forward on the floor and began crying, loud, wracking sobs, shaking her whole frame violently. She had obliterated her chances of achieving her dream. She wasn't going to be an Auror. She was done. Her dream was done.

Annaliese Zanbrecher

Annaliese listened to Emily yell at Ricky and Scarlett, laughing slightly as Ricky had his mouth washed out by magical soap bubbles. That was a very creative spell she had never seen before, even though she was pureblooded. She nodded when Professor Wixom gave her the authority to keep Ricky's wand for as long as she felt like it, ignoring the comment on Annaliese taking a huge pride cut for coming to Hogwarts. She had to admit, though, she wished she were back at Durmstrang just so she could punish Ricky to the fullest extent of her imagination. Blood would run freely from every pore in his body after she was done with him. When Emily gave her the order to use the special quills that would carve whatever they wrote into their hands, Annaliese smiled at Emily gratefully; the woman understood just how badly Annaliese needed to inflict some sort of painful punishment to the pair. Still smiling, she said, "I own mein own set, Emily, so I am prepared to deliver zat punishment. Danke for zis opportunity; I know it defies ze normal standards of punishment at Hogvarts, so I am deeply grateful zat you vould give me zis authority." Annaliese would make sure to make them suffer with the resources and power she had. She would make them deeply regret ever having misbehaved in her class--well, make them regret it more than they already seemed to do, anyway.

~Richard S. Sanders~

Ricky heard Emily's added punishments and winced. That meant he would be taken off the team, and the Quidditch captain was going to kill him. When he heard about the refusal to write letters of recommendation he felt like she was driving a knife through his heart. He didn't have time to react however because Scarlett hit her knees sobbing. Ricky dropped beside her and held her shaking shoulders trying to comfort her. He knew her pain. He had just watched his life's dream fly out the window, just like hers. He looked up at Emily and pleaded. "Pwiff Puffufer. Fon't fill fer freem fike fat." Ricky wanted to continue, but he was gagging on the bubbles, as they scrubbed his tongue, and he knew he probably wasn't even being understood. He then heard Emily's comment about what the Ministry lady had punished Harry Potter with, and his eyes went wide as he shook his head. That quill had left scars after it had drawn the blood. He was wincing just thinking of the pain. Then he realized Scarlett would get it as well and yelled out once more. "Pwiff Puffuffers. Fot Farvett. Fot fer fault." Ricky was having an even harder time speaking as the bubbles made their way down his throat since there was no more room in his mouth. This made him start choking on the bubbles, and he could no longer talk, no matter how bad he wanted too. Ricky knew he would get it bad when his parents got that owl, but right now that was the farthest from his mind. He was facing 2 months of double detention, just got his Head Boy badge taken and banned from Quidditch, was currently getting his mouth washed out worse than his mother had ever done, and was watching Scarlett go through all of this in tears.

~Daniel Blackburn~

Daniel was surprised Emily was capable of so much anger, and lifted an eyebrow, though didn't stop her. She had always seemed like such an air head that gave a light slap on the wrist as punishments. Now he was wondering if she really could handle this however. When she said she refused to write a letter of recommendation Daniel gave a curt nod. He had no intention of writing one either. If these two were this irresponsible as 7th years, they had no business going into such a dangerous field where they could get themselves, each other, and their teammates killed. When Scarlett hit her knees Daniel glared at her, but waited for Emily to finish. "Sanders, you have no right to speak to the Headmistress, let alone beg her for mercy. Eaves, cut the dramatics. This is exactly why you won't get a letter out of either of us. Both of you have displayed to us that you can not accept the responsibility of getting along with each other, let alone protecting the wizarding world from powerful wizards that will do more than make you write lines with your own blood. If you really want to play the dramatics Eaves, I'll take your wand and you can join the muggles in finding out just how easy you do have it."

Scarlett Eaves

Scarlett thanked Ricky silently as he comforted her and pleaded her case. He was sweet and caring, even though he could not be understood very well because of the bubbles in his mouth. When Professor Blackburn started in on them, though, Scarlett's tears lessened slightly and anger took over. She took her wand out of her robes and tossed it to Professor Blackburn then said, "For your information, Professor, I am a muggleborn, so I know full well how it feels to not have a wand. I do not take my magical abilities for granted, and these 'dramatics', as you call them, are for a dream that will apparently not be fulfilled now. Obviously you have never had a dream killed, or else you would sympathize with me and Ricky, even in the most infinitesimal corner of your hard heart. I know we messed up, I know we acted extremely stupidly, and I know right now you want to do that soap bubble spell on me so I won't 'talk back' to you, but don't you dare insult my passion for protecting the wizarding world, or Ricky's, for that matter. He has struggled and tried his damn best to get ahead in his classes, and you are one of the sole witnesses to that. We want this career more than anything else, and this day put aside, we get along just peachy, thank you very much. We're human, which means that we all make mistakes. Ricky and I may have messed up more than anyone in a position of power should, and for that, I acknowledge and accept the fact that taking away that power is the best course of action. However, I do not think that our ability and passion to become what we most desire should be undermined and shoved aside for such a mistake. I know that all of the evil, powerful wizards out there will torture the hell out of us if they ever got ahold of us, but you want to know something? I've been tortured my whole life. Muggles are capable of scarring and torturing people just as much as wizards are. Ask my father, if you ever have the unfortunate opportunity to speak to him. He is the best at corporal punishment and mental torture. Did you know he killed my big brother? Yeah, he shot him. So trust me, torture and me have been best friends since I was a kid. I am not scared of torture, which is why I know I can be one of the best damn Aurors the wizarding world has ever seen. Unfortunately, I will have to reconsider it all because that dream is being stripped from me, as will my magical powers, since I know after this little spiel of mine, you will snap my wand in half and expel me from Hogwarts, thus breaking all my ties to the wizarding world. Just thought you'd like to hear that before you boot me out." Scarlett took a deep breath after saying all of this. She saw the shocked look on everyone's face, and almost laughed at the look on Ricky's face; he obviously never thought she'd have the nerve to talk back to a professor in such a way.

~Emily A. Wixom~

Emily had been about to round on Daniel for being so harsh on Scarlett. Let the girl cry, Emily knew she was being harsh, and the girl would probably need time to just cry it out. Before she could say anything however, Scarlett threw her wand at Daniel and launched off talking back too him. She listened to Scarlett with a sigh, and she did understand. Maybe Emily was being a bit harsh for a first time offense. She knew she had to punish her for talking back to Daniel however, so when Scarlett finished she performed the bubble spell on Scarlett. Then she walked over to the two students and took a hand of each into one of hers. "Miss Eaves, I can assure you that you will not be expelled, but you will deal with the mouth washing for talking back to Professor Blackburn like that." She coaxed both students to their feet gently. She could hear Daniel's anger behind her, but ignored it. She could be gentle and still be a good leader. Dumbledore never raised his voice, and he had been the best Headmaster Hogwarts had ever seen, even too this day. Emily knew she would never be as great as Dumbledore, but that didn't mean she couldn't do her best. "Alright you two, I've heard your pleas. Yes Sanders, even through the bubbles. I think that you both understand that what you did in Professor Zanbrecher's class was extremely uncalled for, and I'm sure you have no complaint about being punished. Maybe I was a little harsh by stating I wouldn't give you letters. I'll tell you what, Sanders, you work on convincing Professor Zanbrecher to give you your wand back, and Eaves, you work on convincing me to give yours back. You both will report to Professor Blackburn for lunch detention, and Professor Zanbrecher for evening detention for the next two months as you have already been told. If you get through that without complaint, remain on your best behavior, and strive to not get into anymore trouble for this last semester, I will consider everything over the years as I consider writing your letters. This will be a black mark on your record, but since both of you behaved well enough to become student leaders I'm sure that I might find a way to over look it. Now you will have to convince Blackburn to give you one as well, so I suggest you work you kiesters off in his class. Sanders, drop History, Magical Creatures, and Astronomy. You don't have time to waste time on those if you're going to pull this off. Now why don't the two of you go down and grab something to eat before your detention. Make sure you are on time however." Emily flicked her wand and the bubbles scrubbed vigorously for 30 seconds before vanishing, leaving the bitter taste of the base in their mouths. When the students had left Emily turned to the Professors still standing in her office. "Annaliese, I hope that will satisfy you. I won't even ask you Daniel since I know you're about ready to take my head off. I do urge you to remember how kindness has been the leading factor in many of the worlds greatest leaders."

Annaliese Zanbrecher

Annaliese listened to Scarlett's speech; she was surprised that the girl had enough nerve to just throw her wand at her Head of House as she had and then talk so boldly to him. She was very impressed. She hadn't even resorted to insulting him (much), simply stating her case and keeping her words as polite and mature as possible. Annaliese approved of Emily's punishment and possible second chance for the pair; she could see just how much losing their dream hurt them both, so being given a chance to redeem themselves was very merciful of Emily to do. Annaliese watched the students walk out, then heard Emily address her. Annaliese replied, "I believe you did ze right thing by giving zem a second chance, Emily. It vill get zem to behave and vill not keep zem from moving on in life vith vhat they aspire to do. Daniel, you should not judge Emily too harshly oh vhat she just did; you cannot honestly tell us zat you vould vant to be ze reason two of your students became unsuccessful in life, now vould you?" Annaliese knew Daniel would resent her for siding with Emily, but did he really have to be so harsh?

Scarlett Eaves

Scarlett took the soap bubble spell without complaint, already having anticipated its use on her. When she heard Professor Wixom say that she and Ricky still had a chance to redeem themselves, Scarlett fought the urge to hug the woman to death in gratitude. Scarlett had not expected her to be so merciful and willing to give them another shot. When the bubbles were cleared from her mouth, Scarlett said, though somewhat thickly because she didn't want to spit on Professor Wixom's floor, "Thank oo so much, 'erfessor 'ixom. Oo 'ave no idea 'ow much 'e a'reciate 'is." She smiled at Professor Wixom tearily before walking out of her office, then running to the restroom across the hall to spit into the toilet. She spit a few more times then flushed, then went to the sink to rinse her mouth out. She hated the aftertaste of soap. She returned outside where Ricky was, and sank against the wall opposite Professor Wixom's office. She didn't feel particularly hungry, and she really didn't want to walk into the Great Hall looking like such a disaster, so she had resolved to just rest before the night's detention. She looked up at Ricky wearily and said, "What a day, huh? I don't know about you, but that roller coaster of emotions really left me drained. I need a drink." She saw Ricky's surprised face and laughed weakly then said, "I'm totally joking. By the way, thank you for comforting me so much today. I honestly couldn't have asked for a better friend than you." She grinned tiredly up at Ricky, expressing her true gratitude with him. Despite what they may have said and done (or almost done, in Ricky's case) to each other earlier, Scarlett still saw Ricky as her closest friend, and her heart still did not fail to thump quickly in his presence. The latter was reaffirmed as she smiled up at him and her heart started its fast beating once more. She was glad to feel at least a little normal after such a terrible day.

~Daniel Blackburn~

Daniel let out a scoff of disapproval when Emily said she knew he disapproved. Annaliese was knew to the team, but he could see that she was beginning to sense his dislike for the woman. It wasn't that he disliked Emily herself. She was really a good girl, sweet, kind, and well behaved. It just hit a nerve that Connan had asked her instead of him to be the Deputy Head. It was worse when he realized that anyone would be a better choice for the job than Emily Wixom. Sure he usually held his tongue out of respect for Connan, but on days like this, it was extremely hard. When he heard Annaliese turn on him and tell him to lighten up on her, he snarled at her. "So you think she was right to just let Eaves talk back to me like that? Sanders has been failing my class all year, and I'm sorry that I don't like 7th years bawling, or talking back to me. As for judging Emily, she knows very well that I think she's an airhead and the least qualified for this position. Saying one thing and then changing her mind instantly because of a students tears like she just did shows you how high strung and sparatic she is Annaliese. We don't need that in a Headmistress."

~Emily A. Wixom~

Emily nodded quietly at Annaliese's comment. She had felt terrible when Scarlett started crying, and knew she was being harsh. When Daniel started in on her yet again however, Emily couldn't hold the tears back. "You know, I didn't ask for this position Daniel. I know I'm a high strung air head, but I do my best, and I really wish that you, the ministry, and Atticus would get off my back. John thinks I do a fantastic job, and he's seen much worse than you. At least I'm willing to do it, even though you are all rooting for me to fail. Now if you don't have anything nice to say, get out of my office. I won't take insults from you Daniel. Not in my own office, doing the job you asked me to do. If you don't want them to have a letter, don't write one. I'll make my own decisions."

~Richard S. Sanders~

Ricky had gone and rinsed his mouth as Scarlett did. He'd had the soap twice as long as she had, and his speaking had made it even worse. When the soap was released and they were dismissed Ricky sighed in relief, thanked the Professor, and hurried out. Now he sat beside Scarlett with a heavy sigh. When she said she needed a drink he shook his head in amazement and understanding of what she meant. "I'm sorry I almost punched you Scar, and I'm sorry we got into so much trouble. I was seriously wishing Zanbrecher would cruciate me for even thinking about it." Ricky sighed tiredly. He was drained, and had no clue how he was going to get through his first night of detention with Zanbrecher. "Guess we're lucky we misbehaved now huh? February is a short month." He was trying to lighten the mode, and hopefully he wasn't making it worse.

Annaliese Zanbrecher

Annaliese smirked at Daniel when he snarled at her and replied, "Just because I am defending Emily does not mean I approved of Miss Eaves' cheek, zough you have to admit, she vas very respectful towards you und stated her case quite vell. I do not like 'brawling or talking back,' as you stated so articulately, vhich is vhy zey vill be punished for ze next two months by me, in case you forgot in your fit of rage over Emily. I may have only been here for a day, but I can see zat Emily is a very great leader, und just because she lessened her punishment towards two students, does not mean zat she is not a fit leader. It simply means she is compassionate, und you have to trust her judgment zat she vill not go soft on somevon who is simply sucking up to her. I know all about sucking up, und I can tell you zat Miss Eaves vas not sucking up. In short, you really need to get rid of vhatever prejudices are blocking you from seeing ze great leader Emily truly is." Emily began saying her own piece to Daniel after Annaliese finished, and Annaliese could not blame the woman for tearing up; Daniel was being highly unfair and prejudiced towards the young woman. Annaliese watched Daniel walk out of Emily's office, the loathing he had for both women in the room clear on his face as he walked away. Annaliese turned to Emily, placed her hands on Emily's shoulders, and said, "You vill be fine. I meant all zat I said about you being a great leader. I may come from Durmstrang, but I can appreciate deep compassion and caring such as yours very vell. It is not something I deal vith often, and vhenever I see it, I admire it immensely. Ignore everyvon's opinion; I know you vill prove zem vrong." Annaliese smiled at Emily, showing her that she meant every word she had said that day, as well as her personal support for her leadership.

Scarlett laughed when Ricky apologized and said, "I think if she had the authority to cruciate you she would have; that woman seems ruthless. Of course, I would've had her cruciate me next since I wouldn't be able to stand you suffering like that." She looked down at her hands and blushed, not knowing how that comment had slipped from her mouth. She lifted her head up and continued. "I'm sorry I slapped you and got us in so much trouble. Seriously, I'm the guilty one here. If I wouldn't have flipped out because you laughed at me, we wouldn't be in this mess. I'm the reason our dreams are hanging by a thread right now, so if anyone should be sorry, it should be me." She stared seriously at Ricky as she said this, willing him to see her earnestness. After she was satisfied he understood her, she smiled at him and said, "It's February already? I thought it was still January. Guess that really will make the time fly by." She sighed and then leaned her head against Ricky's shoulder, not aware at all of her action or the fact that it might be weird since they were only friends (no matter how much she wished otherwise). She simply felt safe and content with him and felt exhausted from everything. She closed her eyes as she leaned against him, wanting to sleep, but knowing she would have to be wide awake for the evening's detention.

~Emily A. Wixom~

Emily saw Daniel snarl at Annaliese before walking out of her office and she bowed her head as tears continued to fall. She wiped her eyes, but couldn't look at the woman before her. "I'm sorry Annaliese, I don't mean to cry, I've just got Daniel, Atticus, and the entire Ministry at my throat so much that it seems no matter what I do I can't do it right. How could he accuse me of letting letting her talk back to him? I washed her mouth for it, and it's not like I'm not punishing them. Thank you for your confidence Annaliese, I'm sorry I'm seeming so weak right now." Emily managed to stop her tears as she looked at Annaliese with a half smile. She really did appreciate the woman's kindness and support of her.

Ricky listened to Scarlett and shook his head. "I wouldn't have let her Scar, it wasn't your fault. I should have learned my lesson in Yelsah's class and not laughed at you." Ricky gave a heavy sigh as he leaned against the wall. He was tired, and just wanted to sleep. "I didn't mean to get your badge taken Scar. You made a great Prefect." When he heard her comment about January and February he shook his head again. "Nah, it is January, but we have 2 months of punishment which means February is the second month, and it's a short month. Do you think she'll use those quills every day?" Ricky sure hoped not. He wasn't the best at pain, and he was starting to really like Scarlett and didn't want to seem weak to her.

Annaliese smiled at Emily and said, "You do not have to apologize for your tears, Emily. I can understand how difficult being Deputy Headmistress can be vhen you have so many people disapproving it. How about ve go downstairs und get some dinner? You vill feel better after getting some nourishment." Annaliese gave Emily a reassuring squeeze on her shoulder and steered her to the door. She knew that Emily would probably fight her in going to eat, but Annaliese would make sure she had dinner; you couldn't deal with as much as Emily had to deal with on an empty stomach.

Scarlett shook her head, which still rested on Ricky's shoulder with her eyes closed, and said, "It was the right thing to do, Ricky. I don't deserve that badge if I acted as I did. I'm sorry I got yours taken; I know that badge meant more to you than mine did to me, which is saying a lot because I loved being Prefect. You made a much better Head Boy than I did Prefect, though. Don't argue with me on that; nothing you say will make it not true." She punched him playfully on the arm with a limp wrist and smirked teasingly as she continued to lean on his shoulder with her eyes closed. At his question about Professor Zanbrecher's punishment, Scarlett said, "I really hope she won't use the quills every day. Then again, she might dish out something worse than quills at us; she really seemed ready to draw blood from us for what we did. I guess we just have to take our punishment silently so she might lessen our punishment over time." Scarlett really hoped she'd reward them if they were on their best behavior. She figured it would be no problem to do so since that was one of Emily's conditions to get her to write a letter of recommendation for each of them for Auror school towards the end of term.
