I don't know who I am. You see me as a lost teenager but you have no idea.... A girl about sixteen with long redish brown hair raced down the alleys of New York City. Away from everyone, away from the humans. She had done it again, but this time it wasn't her fault. This time she warned the man not to touch her. It wasn't her fault that he did and got hurt. She had warned him.
The girl pulled her jacket made of old fire suits tighter around her small frame as she ran. She wasn't looking back. She could smell the small cafe burning. It wasn't her fault that she wasn't human, it wasn't her fault that he got angry because he got hurt.
It was however her fault that she set fire to the cafe. The girl continued to run down the dark alleys. There were more humans coming out but they didn't look like humans. They looked like something long dead, come back to life. Their ragged clothes, much like her own. They probably though that she was one of them.
Sirens sounded, firetrucks, ambulances and police cars. She had really done it this time!
Her eyes grew bright with angry flames then dim with sad flames as she ran. She pulled her hood over her head so that no one could see her eyes, one of the few things that she had no control over.
All I wanted was some bread and water.... I know what I have done I don't even have to look in the mirror To see that I am a monster...

I do not know what I am You see me as a lost teenager But you have no idea... Pyra continued to run down the alley, where it seemed it was a dead end, but the chain link fence was the only thing keeping her from going on.
"They after you kid," an older man asked as he neared her, his eyes looked hungry.
Pyra stopped running when she got to chain link fence, everyone seemed to be watching her. Her eyes flashed with flame as she looked at the man that spoke. Horror filled his eyes as he caught a glimpse of hers.
"You...your," was all he said before he ran back down the alley.
Pyra shook her head and began to climb the fence as quickly as she could. She heard foot steps, but they didn't bother her as much as the frightning sound of a rifle being loaded. She looked down, she was already at the top of the fence and the older man held a rifle, aimed at her. Pyra quickly made a ball of fire and flung it at the man's shirt. He became distracted with putting out the fire and Pyra jumped down on the other side of the fence.
Suddenly his screams stopped and another sound filled her ears. Pain filled her side and a new warmth trickled down her side as she looked up and saw the man with a smoking rifle. "Dam it," she growled and her eyes filled with angry flames as a much larger ball of fire flew towards him. She picked herself up off the ground and ran for cover by a garbage dumpster. "Stupid humans," she hissed when she saw the wound on her side. There was no way that she could make it to a doctors, and they wouldn't take her anyways. They would kill her, or send her back to Nevada. Yeah, she had seen her face and codename printed across the papers and television. The scientists were looking for her.
They warned everyone not to touch her and to use water instead of anything else. They labled her as very dangerous, destructive and homicidal, as well they should.
She did the only thing that she knew to do with her wound and applied pressure to her side. She gritted her teeth as she did, because of the dirt on her hands that found it's way into her wound.
She had, had many run ins with the humans across the years. No one wanted to help her, but they all wanted to kill her. She began to wonder if the dreams she had were only dreams that were directing her to her death instead of a second chance.
I know what I have done... I don't even have to look in the mirror To see that I am a monster...

I do not know what I am You see me as a lost teenager But you have no idea... Pyra stayed by the dumpster until she felt tired from the ammount of blood that she was loosing, and she felt that the humans had left her alone. She reached into her pocket and took out a wad of clean white cloth. Carefully she put it over her wound and drew her jacket, with yet another hole, tightly around her and began to walk down the alley.
She heard muffled voices and the smell of another fire. This time it wasn't made by her and it only smelled of burning paper. She shook her head, no, she didn't like what she was. She didn't have a choice to be anything but a monster.
A cat hissed at her from a pile of garbage and watched her as she passed by. It was getting dark, and safe enough to go out into the open. She stopped at a garbage can that smelled like some pasta and garlic bread. I can't take it.... Her stomach growled at her angrily. Just because someone else doesn't want it, doesn't mean that I am allowed to take it...
She quickly turned away from the garbage and kept walking. She didn't know where she was going, her mind begged her to stop and sleep. But she knew that was why the humans left her alone, she was loosing too much blood, if she fell asleep, she would never wake up. She followed her feet, which seemed to know where they were going until she stopped in front of a large mansion. There was a sign posted on one of the pillars beside the gate.
"Xavier's Institute for Gifted Youngsters," she read slowly aloud. "I've seen this place before," she continued quietly.
She pushed through the gates and walked up to the door. She walked with confidence even though she was unsure and trying to hide her pained face under her hood. She felt weak, like she was going to collapse.
I know what I have done... I don't even have to look in the mirror To see that I am a monster...
