It wasn't as if Lykaios was a bad child; heavens, no, he was actually quite the opposite from that idea. Aside from an inability to make friends (Which was their fault, really; anyone who didn't want to be his friend had to be a daft fool), the boy excelled in his private studies, and always did what his parents asked of him. His mother and father were terribly proud, to say the least of it. 'A Child Prodigy', they boasted to family friends, and even those they didn't particularly care for. Which, of course, had led him to tonight's "Celebration Gala: Come See How Fantastic Our Son Is."
..Stupid, stupid parties. He'd told his parents hundreds- maybe even thousands!- of times now he hated their friends, and their disgusting, grimy hands that pinched at his cheeks and told him he was adorable. He loathed the smell of their nasty colognes and perfume, and the lingering champagne upon their breaths. They were all stupid, the lot of them! Which is why, obviously, he had to sneak out. It wasn't too terribly suspicious, a boy his age wanting to step outside for some air. If he was lucky, he could get a good ways away from the house before they noticed he was gone.
"Stupid party," Lykaios grumbled, kicking a stone as he shuffled idly down the street. He just wanted to be respected, loved, worshiped, even!- in peace! Was it so much to ask? Muttering to himself as he made his way along, he tried to ignore the thoughts of the party behind him. Stupid, stupid party. Why couldn't he just play the piano and be a star without any of this? Adults ruined everything good in life.
Maybe, one day, he'd run away. That'd be nice. No stupid adults, or rules, or parties. Wouldn't that be nice? A small smirk played across his tanned features, and he nodded slightly to himself.
One day, when he was older, he'd get away from it all. Just him, his piano, and stardom. The adults wouldn't be ruining anything anymore. He'd still a good kid, just.. without any stupid adults to ruin it!
Yeah. That's how it was going to be.

Of all the people Anubis was expecting to get involved, He'd expected to see Apollo a bit sooner than the god actually appeared. But he had a lyre (kind of a bulky talisman) and now he had to find the child to go with it.
It wasn't so hard - he just staked out the party and pretended to be a rich and important socialite enjoying a no-smoke cigarette by the door. It gave him a good vantage point to watch the processions from.
The boy was on the move. It was show time. Anubis followed him out into the street.
"You know what they say about it being your party, right?" he asked.

He hadn't even heard the other man follow him from the party, and thus when he spoke, Lykaios nearly jumped out of his skin. Whirling around the glare at the other- though, really, he wasn't a terribly intimidating child- he attempted, at least for a moment's time, to seem tough and hold his own ground. When he realized he was reasonably outsized, however, the boy dropped his arms, attempting to seem more relaxed than... scared out of his wits, in all honesty.
The boy gave a nervous sort of laugh, shaking his head. "Not when it's your parents' party, and all their nasty little fri-" he managed, barely, to catch himself in his insult, stopping dead and quickly looking the other way. "No offense." He amended, a slight reddish tint taking his cheeks. Lykaios was silent a moment, in thought. Turning back to face the older man, he boy had quirked an eyebrow, giving him a once-over.
"But.. I guess not, in the end. You don't seem like the rest of them- pinching my cheeks, or that sort of thing. So, no, 'm not going to take that one back."
Shifting so that one hand rested on his hip, Lykaios frowned.
"So then, assuming you're not some freak or a rapist, who are you? And why would you go to a party like that, of all places?"

Anubis sighed, smiling to dispel his frustration. 'Freak' And 'Rapist' were some of the nicer things he got called on a regular basis.
"An overpaid bike courier," he answered, a hint of a laugh in his voice. "Minus the bike, obviously."
"A god told me to find you and give you this."
From within the folds of his coat, he drew out the lyre and held it out for the boy to take.
"Accepting this is your ticket for entry into the Game."

He was going to comment on the idea of some glorified delivery boy attending one of his parents' parties, but... there was something about the stranger that intrigued him. Probably foolish thinking that would get him killed, but he at least wanted to know what the man was hear for.
At the mention of gods, however, Lykaios's interest was piqued. He watched with wide eyes as he removed the small harp... more of a lyre, if he was remembering his studies... and held it out for him. Looking between the man and the instrument, there was an undeniable amount of fear on his face. The Game.
"The Game as in... THE Game, right? The one... kids talk about, parents worry about? THAT game?" He asked, shocked that he would be sought out for it. Lykaios was up-scale. Rich. Nice. Not the kind of child that would be getting brought into this kind of thing, from what little he knew. Frowning slightly, he focused his attentions back on the man.
"Why would a god want me?"

"Good," said Anubis, shifting his weight from foot to foot but still holding out the lyre. "So you already know about it. As for why you... How should I know?"
He shrugged, The arm holding the instrument remained extended.
"I don't know why Apollo picked you," he said. "If you take this, though, if you accept the call, then I'm sure he'll tell you himself."
"It will be dangerous," Anubis assured the boy, "But looking at you, you could probably head back to the party once you leave here and keep living your normal life by day. At least for a while. It'll be like being a superhero. And the winner takes all."
