well when a momy and a dady love each other a hole bunch but diside that they need a major distraction befor they kill each other they hop into bed reastel around for a wile and out pops a otherkin or therianthrope

I am not sure. Personally, I think that they are a product of reincarnation. In the past life they were what they were, and it sort of imprinted itself on the spirit.

I've read that animals and humans cannot reincarnate as each other. I know there are other "realms," could they have come from these and ended up on this one (I call it the earthplane usually) for whatever reason?

How Otherkin/Therianthropes come to be, since the basic question deals with souls. ^_^
I don't understand this much either, I'm better at basic reincarnation...

I don't think there are rules to reincarnation. My personal beliefs are that souls are sort of... recycled. I think you can come back as anything.

A person is a therianthrope or an otherkin when they have a nonhuman soul or spirit. For therianthropes the soul is an animal and for otherkin the soul is usually a mythical creature. As for what makes a student visa, I am not really sure. I think it is a product of past lives.
