1. Box Method / safe spot
Pick a spot to be your safe spot, it can be a chair, your bed, a box. Make these 3 rules:
-You can not self harm in your safe spot
-You cannot bring anything in your safe spot that you can self-harm with.
-You cannot leave until you feel safe.

2.Fake blood
if you cut to see blood, buy some fake blood and play with it when you feel like cutting

or

Red marker
This is also if you want to see blood, mark on yourself with a red marker where ever you want to cut or write words on your self about how you feel

3.Glue scabs
rub it on you then when it dries you can pick at it like a scab

4. [[removed, sorry]]

5.Zombie Doll
Make a doll out of an old shirt or just just use an old doll or stuffed animal (go to GoodWill and get one if you dont have one) and whenever you are mad or sad or frustrated beat the crap out of it, kick it, bite it, anything you wish as long as you dont hurt yourself =]

6.Distract
play a card game, work on a puzzle, cook, play an instument, play video games, take a shower, walk your dog, watch a movie to get your mind off of it, read a book, draw, do homework, call a freind, get on gaia/myspace/facebook anything that will get your mind off it and wont make it feel worse. =]

8.Laugh
listen to a Dane Cook CD Or something like a playlist of funny youtube videos, a slideshow of kute kittens etc. one thing that always makes me laugh is when i search 'laughing baby'

9.Don’t isolate
I know being alone can make it even more tempting. So go be with people, you don’t even have to talk just be around people or friends

10. Promise Bracelet/Necklace
wearing an item as such promise yourself on your bracelet or knecklace you cant cut as long as your wearing it.

11. Shrink Work
meditate, make a list of your problems then rip them up/burn them, do yoga, take a candelit bath, excersize/ take a walk. (the stuff your theripist would suggest or has suggested i guess)

12. Butterlfly/ Animal
draw a butterfly on your wrist.
youre not allowed to cut untill the butterfly fades away(Goes into the wild)
If u cut myself while the butterfly is still there, it means that u killed it.
If youre an animal lover this one can really work well.
You can draw your lovers name, a pretty picture, some other animal you like, ect.

13.Music.
make a playlist of uplifting songs that make you feel happier or make you laugh/smile and when you get the urdge listen too it =D or even without the urdge it still helps to have a happy song instead of a sad/ triggering one.

14. Know your triggers.
if talking about your ex makes you feel like hurting yourself, change the subject or talk about your current bf/gf or some celebertiy crush or something. learn what makes you feel the worse (if its something you can control) and try to see if theirs any way to get as far away from it as phisically and mentally possible.

15. Scream
i live near an amusement park (Carowinds) so this one works wonderfully wheather im upset or not. go find a place in the middle of nowhere or stuff your mouth with a pilliow/sheets etc and scream your heart out.

16. Smile.
look in the mirror and just give yourself a cheezy picture day grin and hold it for as long as you can. (or make funny faces)

17. Sing.
you dont have to be the next american idol, but just turn on your favorite album, lie down, stare at the celing and sing every lyric you can remeber.
a lot of times when i do this i find things in lyrics that just take me away from my own pain and into the pain of the song/artist.

18. Hug.
this one may be the best one method i have other used aside from music.
go to a crowded place (Mall, Streetconer, etc) and hold up a sign that says 'Free Hugs'. youll feel happy not just for yourself but that you made someone else happy. =D
(ps: Free hugs is this cool non prof thing. check out the vid here)

19. Write.
ive found poetry to be one of the most helpful things ive ever done. it can be a poem, a short story, a journal, something. it can be a wonderful vent.

20. Helplines.
if you feel as if absolutly nothing is working and that theres no way out etc, they have self harm/ suicide hotlines you can call (even in the middle of the night) its anonnomys, sometimes teens even pick up.

heres a link to a lot of hotlines and also some other things that may help:
http://www.twloha.com/page.php?id=11

i think theres a bunch of helplines and stuff in the phonebook too. =]

21. Youtube/ To Write Love On Her Arms.
this is one thats kind of personal for me, but whenever im upset sometimes i just go and search to write love on her arms, suicide prevention, teen depression, etc on youtube and watch the fan videos. this might be triggering for some, and there are mean people you have to look out for, but otherwise i find this method wonderful. a lot of the videos are incredibly uplifting and also heartwrenching. so i strongly suggest trying it put =D

thank you for reading! ^.^
if you have any others post them and ill add them on

I just want to let everybody know that it's not good to turn to alternate methods of hurting yourself. It is still self-harm, and it is an ineffective way of dealing with pain.

Try to figure out what's making you feel this way. Then, confront the issue. This takes a while to get here, but it helps in the long run. Did your mom make you feel like hurting yourself? Tell her. Did the arguement with your best friend get you depressed? Call him. Or, even if you don't know what's going on, call your best friend. It helps to know there's a real person there. I always tell my friends to call me if they get depressed, because I hope that somebody will do the same for me.

And, if you know a friend is doing it, make them promise not to. Start with a small amount of time, then gradually work your way up to greater amounts of time. A friend of mine helped me immensely by doing this. Just having something to hold onto means a lot.

If you're helping others, be there for them as you promise, or make sure they know beforehand if you can't hang out with them at a certain time. Do you call them every Sunday night? Let them know before if you can't the next time. It hurts so much to have somebody else break the promise that keeps you holding on.

Oh, and, if you're going to try some new way of handling emotional pain, talk to a therapist first, if you can. They can help you decide ways that you enjoy, and that will work out in the long run. =]

It may seem hard, but it's always worth it in the end. Try, and you'll find so many people who support you, and who will help you express your feelings in healthier ways. It may be a long road, but you'll be happy looking back at it that you stopped cutting.
