Escape from the real world or the game is just has a more appealing way to live.

Could be both.
Imagine a less fortunate child playing Fable 2 - Wouldn't they want to be IN that world? Not only for the money, but the varient lifestyle? I'd say that escaping the real world and having something more appealing are the same thing biggrin
However, a "Richy Rich" might want the escape from life's problems, not so much the allure of the game.
Personally, depending on the game is what would draw me to it. I'm a zombie and a post-apocolyptic fan, so obvious choices for me would be Left 4 Dead and Fallout 3 - again, not only due to the allure, the appeal, but also to escape the monotony of everyday, modern life.
