I don't know if I should tell anyone or not, but I have a serious view on a certain subject.... its like God is telling me to do this... thing, but then again it goes against the Bible.... but its like a direct order from God... so what do I do?

I'm not sure any direct order from God would go against the bible. It just wouldn't. Look how much Jesus' life fulfilled the old testament...

If it goes against what the Bible teaches, then it would be a contradiction and if God is wholly sovereign, he wouldn't tell you to do something that contrdicts his righteousness--as that would be sin, and God cannot tolerate sin.

What is it, though? Maybe we can help you to understand what you feel it is God is telling you to do.

Yeah. God will NOT contradict himself so if it goes against the ible, it is wrong and Not from god...letting us have some insight to this could be helpful.

It depends what the thing is. What you need to do is be sure it's your god who's telling you to do this thing, rather than someone else or

We know from the bible that YHWH rarely contacts his people directly; usually there's an angel or similar who delivers the message. So if god is telling you to do something, you really do have to analyse that and make sure it's not your imagination or something else.

But on the other side of things, the bible contains a lot of stuff that was very important to the Jewish people, their culture and their faith, which doesn't necessarily apply to Christians. Purity laws, for example. And there are things that made a great deal of sense at that time and in that place, that are no longer really relevant because our culture has changed so significantly. For example, sex before marriage: back then it was very important to marry if you had sex, because you wanted to protect the woman; if she became pregnant and her lover left her, she would be in a very difficult situation. Now, women have more personal rights and we have contraception, so those laws aren't quite as important as they were then.

So, if you're being told to do something that isn't in the bible, you also have to consider how important that law was then, how important it is now, and the reasons for it.

I mention this because it concerns me that many people have homosexual inclinations but feel that their god really dislikes that. Now it may be true, and it's up to you to decide, but there's a very good thread in ED that suggests that this is not the case. It's a good thread, but how relevant it is to your faith is up to you. That's why I mention that sort of thing.

So generally I'd say rely on god rather than the bible, but you do have to analyse whether this desire is actually from god or whether it's from something else. And if he's telling you to cause anyone harm, I'd say it's probably not god. (Despite the whole "dash their heads against the rocks" and so on.)

Measure this thing against your own morals as well, and see where it comes up.

The Bible is how we know the nature of God. The relevancy of the Bible and what it says about God and faith doesn't change because society changes. If God's demands change with society then God wouldn't be wholly sovereign, He would only be a...what's the word...well, he would be like a president. Washington had strict standards and would be appalled by many of the things done today...But Obama fits with the society, he accepts and often embraces much of the things that would disgust our founding fathers. That's people changing the society...God doesn't change. If God changed, He wouldn't be God.

God is perfect which means God can't lie. Am I right? Yes
Ok, well God has written down all the rules. They are all in one book called the Bible. Am I right? Yes.
Ok, well if God tells u to do something that is agianst the rules, that would make one of the two things your hearing a lie. Am I right? Yes.
So. God would not tell u to do something agianst his word cuz that would be a Lie and God can't Lie.

The Devil on the other likes to imatate God. He can make it seem like he can do everything that God can. He can make u think that God is telling u something that is against the Bible.

The best thing to do is talk to someone that you can trust in ur church, pray, read ur Bible, and listen to God's written words. He spent a lot of time making that Bible so u could read what he wants u 2 do.....

(and i'm not trying to sound like ur an idiot, but this is exatly how my pastor explained to me how to know if it's God or the Devil talking to you when i had the same question)

It is ot necssarily the devil either...one of the things that always gets to me is how often people give the devil credit he does not deserve...a lot of the times when you think you are being told something and cant tell if is it God or the Devil..it is neiher. it can often times just be your own sinful desires making you want to or feel the need to do something sinful..this happens on a sub conscious level to people all the time.

The Devil is not even a major character in the bible...The bible says serpent in Genesis..NOT the devil..it does not ever say the devil in the entire book of genesis..yet people give him credit.

The devil is a created being and thus cannot be omnipresent (at all places at all times) like God is. in Job, the devil has to ask God for permission. do you see where I'm going with this?

you need to test the spirit that sent you the order and see if the spirit comes from God. that is what i do. blaugh and remember, God does not go back on his words so if it told you something that caunterdices the bible than the spirit is not of God.
