The Opus Diner. Due to its close proximity to Cyrus City General, as xir mother dubbed it, this place happened to be one of Phoenix's usual stomping grounds. Dr. Brick loved it! It was close by, was open nearly all the time--when it wasn't open, Dr. Brick usually gave Phoenix a map to somewhere else--and didn't cost too much so she could send Phoenix off with a small amount of money at any time and xe'd get something to eat. By this point, this habit was routine. Phoenix wandered off alone to The Opus Diner quite often when Dr. Brick was busy at work.
It just so happened that today happened to be one of those days. Instead of eating at the moment, though, it happened that xir mother gave xir a bit more money than usual and told xir to go buy something xe'd enjoy. That was relatively vague, and Phoenix ran with it. Xe thought it would be a good idea to spend some pieces on listening to some cool songs on the Jukebox. Phoenix had xir nose pressed up to the transparent screen and flicked through the songs, watching in amazement as the records moved by. Now which one should the medicinal one stop on?
Admittedly, the young child looked rather silly. What added to the silliness was the fact that xe insisted on touching the buttons with gloves on. It seemed that Phoenix refused to actually touch the buttons with xir clean fingers, almost as if the young one assumed that the buttons would be terribly dirty or full of diseases. The regulars were probably used to the medicinal one's silly behavior by not, but that didn't mean everyone would be used to what looked like a miniature surgeon toying with the songs on the Jukebox.

Abilene was seated inside the diner with Kaya, sipping water and watching her mother patiently as she scribbled sloppy notes in a notebook. It was Kaya's latest thing, recording her thoughts in a notebook, and it had proven to be interesting indeed. Still, the lotus child had chosen to place her attention elsewhere soon enough, and was currently scanning the diner.
It didn't take much time for her to spot Phoenix; xe was rather conspicuous today, it seemed. Abilene felt some degree of excitement as she observed him, for she considered him a friend of sorts and she was still on her childish quest to make as many friends as possible.
This was why she walked up to him in a bold attempt to leave the impulse of anti-sociality behind. "What are you doing, Phoenix?"

Phoenix jumped slightly when the lotus-smelling girl addressed xir, but calmed xirself rather quickly. Soon enough, xir nose was back against the window pane of the jukebox and records kept going by. "Not much," chirped Phoenix, a bit muffled by the fact that xir nose was a little crushed. "The way the records just go by in such a routine way is a little fascinating. I wonder how they got the machines in here to do that?"
The medicinal child was always one who wished to know everything about how things functioned. The jukebox was no exception. It was almost as if the child was having more fun watching the records than picking a song. "New Ma gave me some extra money today," the muffled child added, "so I decided to spend it on the jukebox! I can't pick which song would be the most awesome, though."
Suddenly, Phoenix turned back to Abilene and pointed to the Jukebox. "Do you like any songs on here, Abilene?" It was hard to tell if xe was letting her pick or if xe was just asking for a good suggestion.

Abilene gazed at the machine as Phoenix explained his preoccupation with it. It was true; the movement of the records was very fascinating. "I don't know," she replied, tilting her head to study the jukebox. "I don't think I've ever seen one of those before." She added, pursing her lips thoughtfully.
Abilene nodded as Phoenix explained how he had come to use the jukebox; it seemed a rather novel concept to the girl and she smiled absently as she watched the records flip around in an intriguing manner. She was not so keen with figuring out how things worked, but sometimes it was nice to know.
"I don't really know any songs on there." Abilene admitted, shuffling her feet. Thus far she'd found things besides music to preoccupy her, and so was not very musically savvy at all. She was sure Phoenix might be able to pick out a good song, though.

That didn't particularly help. Phoenix scrunched xir nose a bit when Abilene admitted that she didn't know any songs on there, but that wasn't because xe was mad at her. Rather, it was because Phoenix didn't know any of the songs either, at least by name. "I guess I'll have to look harder, then." Phoenix's nose was back against the pane as yet another record went by.
Maybe this song? Phoenix stopped on a song that said something about celebrating. Xe didn't exactly know what the celebration the song was talking about was full, but it sounded like a fun song. After debating it for a few more moments, the child finally decided and settled on the song that was almost as danceable as disco.
The medicinal one clapped xir hands together. That was a good choice! "This song is fun," admitted Phoenix, with a grin. Xe was tapping xir foot to the rhythm as xe listened.

Abilene watched the jukebox, her amber eyes alight with curiosity. "Well, it shouldn't be too hard," She replied lightly, glancing to the medicinal child. "And looking is fun, too." Abilene added, gesturing to the hypnotic movement of the records.
She smiled at he came to his decision, nodding enthusiastically. Her antisociality was forgotten as she listened to the music, perceiving it as a rather fun tune.
"It is! And there are so many other songs..." She was still smiling absently, glad to be part of the discovery of the jukebox.

Phoenix didn't dance very well, though xe certainly attempted to. The best way to describe xir moves was dorky. As xe nodded at Abilene, Phoenix was sticking out and shaking xir butt and making some weird kissy face in an attempt to hum along to the beat. In the end, the medicinal child's dance was more of a hilarious spectacle than anything.
"Yeah! I wish I had money to play them all!" exclaimed Phoenix, opening xir eyes and grinning. But, then, xe noticed the sweat on xir forehead and suddenly stopped dancing. How gross. The cloth came out of xir pocket and the usual wiping down of xir face began. Only when xir face was dry of sweat did Phoenix go back to dancing... poorly.
Phoenix, while dancing like a dork, asked with a cheerful grin, "So why're you here tonight? I don't think I've seen you here before!" It was obvious that Phoenix came here often. The dancing like a dork perhaps wasn't as common; a few of the patrons of the restaurant were turning back to the medicinal child and giggling.
