in order to go to heaven?? I have a similar question as heartless angel did. I want to prove it because they don't think that you don't have to go and you can go to heaven.

The bible does not say thet you HAVE to go to church in order to go to heaven...just like the bible does not say that you have to be baptized to go to heaven...however...both things are very important.
Much of the new testament discussed the proper structure that God intends for the church...so if it wasnt important, the bible wouldnt stress the importance of the church...also...there are some truths about church that you have to realize:
1: Church is NOT a building 2: Church is NOT an event 3: Church IS the body of christ. WE christians ARE the church.
Derek webb put it best in a song he wrote, written from the perspective of Jesus..I believe he got it exactly right
"You cannot care for me with no regard for her. If you love me you will love the church."
The church is the bride of christ. so..if you are a christian, but you dont like the church..or you dont see the need to be involved in fellowship with other christians as part of the church....you have a major problem.

Baptism is for born again Christians. Baptism is an act or ordinance that shows people that you have laid down you old life and ways (sin) and have been born again and walking in newness of life. Baptism is supposed to be a whole body submergance meaning that you are needing to be fully in the water. Jesus had to participate in this type of ordinance to exemplify what Christians need to do. He had to do what the Father (God) told him to do which was to "Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." Matthew 28:19-20 [KJV] (I think that is the verse I don't have my Bible with me, but you can check it sometime) John the Baptist used it for his ceremonies and used it as a way to bring sinners to his sermons. So basically as I stated before, baptism is just an ordinance that Christians participate in to show that they have laid down their old lives (sin) and are walking in newness of life. I hoped this helped you out some and if you have any more questions feel free to ask me! 4laugh

Exactly! Baptism is NOT mandatory for salvation. Baptism is considered works..it is an ACT of faith and an act of obedience. The reason we can clearly assess that baptism is NOT absolutely mandatory for Salvation is that Paul clearly tells us in Ephesians 2:8-9 "For it is by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." (ESV)
Baptism is an important act of obedience. Just as Danitra said, it is emphasized pretty heavily in the bible and Jesus even said that it is something that is good for us to do.

Archer`Colton 1: Church is NOT a building 2: Church is NOT an event 3: Church IS the body of christ. WE christians ARE the church. Quote: That's what I was going to say. Just fellowship with other christians is 'church' as the bible means. This right here, these discussions are a type of 'church'. biggrin
