As the title says, I'm writing a vampire novel. And I had a few questions, about whether I should be altering the classic vampire image as drastically as I am.
A few examples of my changes:
No change in appearance in sunlight.
Blood is only needed once a century. The rest of the time, regular food sustains them.
The only way to kill a vampire is to tear out it's no-longer-beating heart.
They are the typical ones that fit so perfectly into society, yet spend five months thinking only of the enticement of blood, and relying on instincts beforehand (being 'feral.')
That my main character has no typical vampire venom in him, but instead, the types of venom like viper, and other poisonous creatures.
With all these changes, would people like these new vampires, or are they too hard to identify with?

I think that (no offense) the blood being once a century is a bit long,it kind of changes the whole image and the heart tearing is a bit awkward as it would be almost impossible to kill them,also I think that rather than going from sun light=death to sunlight=tan is a little (no offense) drastic,however I like the idea ofyour vampires being more casual(I think capes all the classic vampire outfit isn't very good) and believe vampires should be a little more caual as you suggested.
