This thread will list ideas and notes for potential additions and expansions to be proposed for the OVERRULED! roleplay group and thread network. Please note that the contents of this thread are subject to change as they are revised and expanded.

The name "EINSPRUCH!" is meant to convey the continued spirit of Ace Attorney as OVR! branches out to become a more complete world, encompassing more players and characters in its growth. EIN! aims to foster a richer context and environment for meaningful roleplay interactions within OVR!, not only by providing activities, community contributions, and conversation pieces, but also by creating a unique world that will let OVR!'s personalities shine through in a more publicly visible identity.

Points that the expansion pack is intended to address:

Ongoing activity in the "off-seasons" outside of summer when people have less free time to devote to larger plot lines and story threads. People remain idle often because they lack context, or good excuses, for players and characters to interact. Event threads usually do not have these weaknesses, because they are centered around a well-known concept and have very clear, up-front declarations about the kinds of activity to take place in them. Regular threads should try to emulate this form by being very clear about the kinds of things people are able to do there, as well as having "leader characters" in charge of representing and running these ongoing activities.

Leader involvement is not only essential to running activities, but also in engaging other group members and making them feel like part of the community. The regular leaders—the group moderators—should create more opportunities for themselves to lead the rest of the group in RP activities, either by taking the helm for group activities or playing the part of key canon characters. Barring this, they should proactively delegate these responsibilities to others and help them achieve activity goals; rather than simply giving go-aheads or waiting for suggestions, there should be more dialogue among the group in general.

General Suggestions

There are a number of changes we can make to the way we work to make it work better.

State our purpose in the main thread. We should make clear what kind of roleplay group we are, what kind of behavior we expect, and what kind of roleplaying we are capable of producing.

Cross-link all network threads. Have a miniature Mainframe inside the main roleplay thread to link it to the complete network. Network threads should also link to the main thread and the Mainframe. Location threads should give priority to other locations in proximity, to help visitors explore the network. Heavy cross-linking creates visibility and information much faster than centralization can; just look at Wikipedia!
ALSO: If possible, link ALL subsidiary and private threads that are relevant to OVR! and its characters. Visitors will be able to learn more about OVR! the deeper they are allowed to go without having to commit themselves to participating (and the more they learn, the more they'll be likely to commit).

Eliminate or revise redundant or useless threads. Hickfield Clinic and the Detention Center are important places, but serve no purpose as far as roleplaying goes. We should make sure that every part of our network contributes to overall activity; for example, the proposed additions in EINSPRUCH! seek to add activities and events to existing threads or create threads for the purpose of hosting specific types of activities and events.

Link to profiles in the Mainframe character list. Naturally, this will require the permission of the respective owners. This will help visitors learn about the group and track individual characters. We could also...

Create a Profile List that is linked to the Mainframe. This acts as a publicly available repository for all applications approved by The Mason System. Players may also submit additional information to be posted here for visitors.

List the reasons for player absences. Information at a glance helps create a reasonable estimate for the player's return.

We can make use of more moderators. Even with three group moderators, time is at a premium, particularly with everyone in different time-zones and with increasingly busy schedules. The moderator group could be expanded to relieve pressure on our current moderators.

The time-warp needs to be explained. As of writing, not only are advanced-timeline characters allowed, but duplicates as well. There is currently no justification for this. It has to be explicitly and clearly explained why we allow this, so we can more effectively roleplay around or about it (especially in resolving duplicate and AU characters). It is highly inadvisable to remove this aspect of OVR!, as it affords us flexibility in character creation and interaction that forms a large part of our charm.
NOTE: Pie had a good explanation for this, though as of writing I cannot remember what it was nor why it hasn't been inducted into OVR! canon.
NOTE: Decisions about this aspect of OVR! should be reflected in Rules #9 and #10 (see below).

Revising the Rules

With summer approaching, we can expect a lot more traffic (and a lot more conflicts). A revision of the rules for clarity and flexibility will be helpful. NOTE: This particular list of suggestions was met with less-than-enthusiastic response. More attention should be paid to activity than policy.

Art theft should be explicitly forbidden and enforced. Particularly in the case of OCs, but this may also happen for canon characters. Because we use a largely text-based application process, this may not be necessary.

= = = = =
Rule #7: Original characters require approval.
This rule should include a more nuanced explanation for canon-connected OCs. An example:
We welcome original characters, but cannot accept an OC in good conscience if the OC's presence or relationship to other characters would create unwanted tension for other players and/or their characters.

Requirements:
-The OC's canon counterpart(s) must be active.
-The OC's canon counterparts' player(s) must approve.

What happens if there are duplicate characters, and one approves the OC, but another disapproves? The OC may be related to one duplicate, but not the other.

Should include rules for AU characters from Rule #10.

= = = = =

Rule #9: Limited supernatural magic and abilities.
Quote:
Real magic will require approval before use, however there is a gauge on what is acceptable for use and what is not.
As it stands, the criteria for supernatural abilities is incredibly murky; deciding purely on a case-by-case basis may seem unfair and inconsistent. A set of guidelines would be easier to follow, enforce, and revise.

The primary concern of Rule 9 is the issue of player control, as it carries over the backlash to OBJECTION!'s overreaching story events. It may be in OVR!'s interests to have a looser restriction on supernatural abilities, provided they do not cross typical boundaries for God-moding.

The secondary concern of Rule 9 is maintaining the setting of PW/AA within Gaia Online's own universe; PW/AA is a modern, near-future-tech setting with little to no supernatural influence, whereas Gaia is a whimsical cartoon fantasy world.

Spirit channeling will require its own definition. An exception should be made for Kurain-specific spirit channeling and some of the connected mysticism, but it should by no means affect or be affected by the established guidelines.

= = = = =

Rule #10: Crossover and alternate-universe characters.
This will be influenced by Rule #9's revisions, as the guidelines for supernatural aspects of characters will apply.

Rules for AU characters should be moved to Rule #5, to keep everything under one roof.

Cafe A La Mode, Borscht Bowl Club, and the Wonder Bar

The Cafe A La Mode has provided a pleasant crossroads for outsiders and OVR! players alike, however its placement outside of the official network and environment means that OVR! proper lacks a distinct PW/AA restaurant location such as Borscht Bowl or the Wonder Bar.

Adapting or absorbing CALM as a true part of OVR! will help give both CALM and OVR! a distinct identity, as it is something that is near and dear to the hearts of OVR! players and even despite its lack of PW/AA canon, a deeper level of endorsement and involvement with CALM would make it a part of the group.

It is this fact that makes BBC/WB a tertiary option when addressing the question of creating a casual hangout for the OVR! network. Other PW/AA groups can be expected to have a BBC or WB environment, while CALM is an OVR! entity through-and-through.

Note: Pie has given support to the adoption of CALM, but aside from re-titling and cross-linking, the exact terms of this absorption are yet to be settled. Naturally, CALM Manager will continue to moderate the CALM thread, instead of The Mason System. It has also been proposed that the CALM staff be registered as OCs in the Mainframe.

= = = = =

The restaurant acts as an entertainment venue with a variety of activities centered around character interaction.

Olga Orly features! Card games, poker competitions, and more.

Community Service
With the lovely Maggey Byrde

Regular events in specific location threads throughout the network, each one tailored to be specific to its environment. Community service can be a regular duty or an occasional volunteer job, but the attendance for each one should be confirmed beforehand. Participants can earn special prizes and awards!

Do "real" community service events, such as running donation drives for random Gaia Online users who have public questing threads, or making a freebie center supported by our roleplay group (we have a lot of creative folks; an art/writing jam could do wonders).

A more extreme idea would be to export our characters (canon and otherwise) to open roleplaying threads for short-lived visits. Upon their departure they create a bread-crumb trail leading back to OVR! Note that this cannot be achieved with secret or alternate accounts; we need to invest ourselves and put or known characters and players on the line, because that is the kind of publicity that sends a message to the community. We're not looking to be subversive.

Gourd Lake Amenities

While Gourd Lake is a nice public space (and is a better random hangout spot than poor Phoenix's office), it lacks stuff to do.

A weekly or monthly art jam could be held there, featuring local produce, fishing, floristry, and the arts. The key thing here should be to actually produce something; at the very least we could share pretty pictures or doodles, even if they were produced at the very last minute.

Create a fishing game based on dice-rolling, similar to dice-rolling contests in the Chatterbox. To discourage abuse, only registered characters who have obtained a "fishing license" from the police department will be rewarded accordingly. The process of getting such a license should be roleplayed out in the department itself, of course!

SNOT: Samurai of Neo Olde Tokyo
Yes, purposefully stupid acronym.

Note: Surgical Heart, the Steel Samurai from before OVR!'s time, has expressed interest in this project. He was recommended to be a leader for it by moderator Torn Flesh Banquet.

An MMORPG-within-an-RP developed and maintained by Blue Screens Inc. Log in from home or play at a public terminal! Become part of a constantly-expanding world of futuristic feudalism, filled with samurai, spirits, and cyborgs.

Much of the play will be simple and largely automated, to facilitate roleplay interactions between characters playing the game while also encouraging advancement in the game itself. One of the major draws is that players will be able to partially improvise some of the details of the world, such as describing the loot they find or naming the places they discover. Like an improvisation act, players can have their characters freely go back and forth as they trade this information with each other much like normal gamers would.

Characters play samurai, charged with defending Neo Olde Tokyo from outside threats and venturing throughout the land to bring justice. Samurai take on a special title, and can train in a variety of martial disciplines and specialize in specific weapon types. Samurai heroes are defined by their signature styles.

Unnamed TV Station
A place for Sunny?

A venue for television productions of all kinds, from the latest weather updates to the Steel Samurai franchise.

This can be adapted to be a personal thread, but would have more potential if made a part of OVR's network. (pun intended)
