It had been, perhaps, not the best idea for the satyr-like boy with deep red skin and a purple, trailing mohawk to wander off on his own with just his loin-cloth to cover him, but he had grown tired of sitting indoors and playing on the computer, or being followed around by a nearly snarling dog. Since his mother was blind, he had taken the opportunity to slip out of the house while she was in the shower, knowing her routine well enough to know she would take at least 30 minutes in the shower, 15 minutes working a brush through her hair carefully, and that she would then proceed to get dressed. A feat that for her often took at least another 15 minutes. At which point in time she would call for him and sit on the couch to wait for him to come and braid her hair. And so, the young boy had decided to take off for an hour, figuring he could at least make it to the park and make a loop or two before having to run home. If he was lucky, Niamh might even taken extra time in the shower - she had complained of stiff shoulders that morning - and then he could slip back into the house without being noticed. Except by the dog, Thor. He would bark, but then he always barked at Ailin.
As the young boy strolled towards the park, he concluded that due to the odd glances he was receiving from folks that walked by, it was about time for Eremon to buy him more than just that Easter Sunday suit. Maybe they could get him some jeans and a t-shirt, or even better, some blazers and nice slacks, with white button up shirts. Though he was young, Ailin had been quick to pick up on the fact that the chicks seemed to dig a man in a suit. With the thought of slightly older women flocking to him as he looked grandiose in his fancy clothes, a grin came to his face, and he allowed the daydream to guide his footsteps. Ailin had come to the park often enough to be able to get there on his own, without having to really pay much attention to where his footsteps fell, and so allowed his mind to become fully occupied with dreams of women, dating, and suits.
The boy was so oblivious to his surroundings, he hardly noticed it when he nearly ran into the other patrons at the park that day, and didn't hear the mutterings and cursing as he plodded on by without even saying so much as a muttered 'sorry'. To little Ailin, the daydream was much better than the reality, for he had yet to really meet anyone or make any new friends. That was the other reason for his walk today - he was desperate to make some new friends. He was a social creature, and being stuck with a blind woman didn't leave him much room for social interaction. Not when he felt obligated to help her around the house as much as he could.

Kaya trusted her too much sometimes, the girl concluded as she strolled through the park at a casual pace. She was slowly growing more comfortable on the social scene, but she'd been taking baby steps. She was mildly proud of her effort, at least, although things weren't working out perfectly.
Abilene was moving at an idle pace as she calmly took in the myriad of people mulling about the park on that particular day. It was a nice day; sunny with a balmy temperature, although not quite as warm as the lotus child would have preferred. Still, it was nice to enjoy this much freedom. Kaya treated her like a child or an equal depending on the day, and today her guardian had done the latter, leaving her alone to do whatever she pleased.
It was logical, really, for Abilene was nowhere near the status of "trouble maker" and was altogether a very benign soul that rarely talked to strangers. Sometimes her social defects seemed to be to her benefit.
She found herself humming softly now, ignoring the curses and angry mutters that erupted around her as she perused the park. If she was looking anywhere right now, it certainly didn't involve reality.

It didn't take long for the crimson youth to make a full circuit of the park, still lost in his thoughts and vaguely wishing he had brought the dog with him for some companionship. Already Ailin had figured out just what clothes he wanted Eremon to purchase him and was fully prepared to do the full child bit by stomping and pouting until he had gotten his way. As soon as he got home he would have to tell Niamh he wanted to go to the store. Eremon was bound to stop by the house at some point in time that day as he did every day to check up on Niamh. When he did, he could take them both to the store. That way Niamh got to go out for a while and Ailin got what he wanted. It was a win-win situation, he was sure of it.
Ailin's thoughts turned to some of the not so nice things he had been saying to his 'Mother' and he wondered if it hurt her when he said those things. It annoyed him that he had been "stuck" with the blind woman, but at the same time, he was discovering that he actually felt both compassion and love for the woman. She was kind and caring but definitely a little too soft on him, for she hardly ever disciplined him enough to make sure he would never do 'that' again. A small smirk came to his face as he remembered the last time he had let Thor out for too long and the dog had wandered off, scaring Niamh half to death in the process until Thor had returned about an hour later and happy as could be.
And as often happens when one walks around without paying attention to what is going on around them, Ailin soon walked directly in the path of a young female who he barely took notice of. Instead, his thoughts turned to flowers, and how he really should make it up to Niamh for how he'd been acting. She was only trying to do her 'job' and the youth had never really cared for that in the short time he had been with her. Authority was not something he was particularly fond of. It took only a few more steps but the youth's shoulder soon collided with that of the young woman and he snapped out of the daydream he'd been in to turn to her with a scowl that soon changed to a charming smile as soon as he realized it was a girl he'd run into.
"Hello there, sorry for running into you like that. Must not have been paying attention to where I was going."
Girls did love it when the guy took the blame for not paying attention, right? So that was exactly what he did. Took the blame. Even though he couldn't help but feel it was just a little bit her fault, too.

She continued to hum pleasantly, enjoying herself as she wandered aimlessly. Certainly, Abilene was shocked when her shoulder collided with that of another child. She regained her balance quickly, having time to see the scowl-turned-charming-smile.
"Oh, no, I'm sorry." She assured him. She'd been paying absolutely no attention, after all. She had yet to be introduced to the fact that some boys liked to be chivalrous or something like that. She was fine with taking the blame, anyway, though she supposed it was both their faults.
"Were you daydreaming? I think it might be a good day for daydreaming."

The charming smile the youth had flashed the young woman turned to a more amused one as the girl apologized for the very same thing he had. Maybe she wasn't into the polite shindig? Or perhaps she really did just feel it was her fault? Either way it left Ailin feeling just a little bit awkward about how to proceed. In his few interactions so far with the 'outside world' as he had come to call it, he didn't really recall just what a man was supposed to do when the girl chose to apologize and accept the blame for what he already had tried to. This mental debate may have shown on his face, though the young man tried this best to hide it, and finally he just laughed as one hand flew to scratch at the back of his head. "Don't worry, its not entirely your fault we ran into each other." A smile complimented his statement as he vainly hoped that was a good response.
With that, however, Ailin was once more at a loss for words. Sure, he could think all kinds of things, but he'd never actually had the chance to talk to a girl who appeared to be near his age. It was a whole new experience for him, and it made him feel more than a little awkward. As the young lady asked him a question, he thought he felt his already dark red cheeks grow just a hint redder. Now that she put it that way, he kind of had been daydreaming. Or at least planning how to make things up to his Mother and he supposed that since he was focusing more on that than on where he was going, it must count as a daydream. "Yeah, I kinda guess I was daydreaming. I was thinking about what I should get my Mom."
There was a slight pause there, as Ailin wondered if the girl had been daydreaming too, and so he promptly tagged on a question, "What were you daydreaming about?" And there went the words before he finished thinking. She hadn't mentioned she was daydreaming, but now he had gone and assumed she had. Hopefully she wouldn't be upset by the assumption, and hopefully she really had been daydreaming after all.

Abilene observed Ailin, noting that he seemed to be thinking; perhaps he was wondering at his next course of action. She couldn't really tell. "It doesn't matter now anyway." She commented, not really even noticing his vain struggle. The lotus child took things in as they were; she was mainly unaware of the true rules of etiquette the world had generally set out, and so merely perceived Ailin's behavior as a little odd.
She watched the other child flush, raising her eyebrows out of curiosity. "What you should get your Mom? Is it going to be her birthday?" Abilene guessed aimlessly, having no real purpose in asking these things. She merely had the feeling of faint curiosity about her, and that was where the bulk of the small talk she usually made stemmed from. She supposed it was nice to know these things, sometimes.
She smiled her usual absent smile at his question, replying with barely a thought to it. This conversation wasn't nearly as complicated to her as it was for him, and indeed she didn't even notice his overcomplicating of small matters. "Well, I was just thinking about how my mother lets me go off all the time and I was enjoying the day." The child murmured calmly.

The boy raked one hand through his purple mohawk as he laughed sheepishly at the girl's comment. He supposed that by this point in time in the conversation it really didn't matter anymore who had ran into whom. Now all that really mattered was that the conversation would go well. And if there was one thing he was unwilling to admit, it was that he was a little unsure of exactly how to converse with another person, particularly one near his age, after having only his mother, her caretaker and her brother to speak to. He was accustomed to mostly just...listening, truth be told.
Ailin's eyes quickly scanned the park where he noticed a bench lying not too far from where they were standing. As the girl asked her second question, he gave a smile and waved one hand towards the bench in quiet suggestion they might sit down while they talked rather than just stand about. No sooner had his eyes located the comfortable looking bench than they lit towards the ground, feeling just a little ashamed at the reason why he was looking for a present for his Mother. With a somber shake of his head, he responded, "No, its not her birthday...I just...feel bad about something." A light cough exited the child's mouth as he cut himself off, not really sure if he wanted to tell this stranger why he was feeling bad about his behavior.
The charming smile quickly returned, however, when the young lady mentioned she got to go out on her quite often. And, in fact, a little bit of shock and jealousy emerged on his face at the realization that he rarely went out alone, yet this girl who was roughly his age went out quite often all by her self. Unable to stop himself, Ailin said with some surprise, "You get to go out on your own all the time?"
