What is a roleplay?

"Taking on a role (in the sense an actor has a role) and enacting or playing that character in different situations"

"A role-play is a game in which the participants assume the roles of fictional characters and collaboratively create stories. Participants determine the actions of their characters based on their characterization, and the actions succeed or fail according to a formal system of rules and guidelines. Within the rules, they may improvise freely; their choices shape the direction and outcome of the games."

So basically, it's where you create a character with a background and characteristics, and you bascially create a story using those characters.
