Hello all. Today is Good Friday, the second day of one of my favorite seasons of my faith. But with all the excitement about Jesus rising from the dead, the Triduum is often overlooked. Which is sad. Very sad.

The three days of the Triduum are:
arrow Holy Thursday
arrow Good Friday
arrow Holy Satuday

Let's get to know these days some more!

I apologize in advance for the likely lack of coherence in my posts.

HOLY THURSDAY

Holy Thursday is when we Celebrate the feast of the Last Supper in Catholic churches. It's tradition to wash 12 of the parishioners' feet, like at the last supper.

I don't really know much about Holy Thursday, but if you do, post it here!

GOOD FRIDAY

Good Friday is my personal favorite.
Good Friday is when Jesus died on the cross for our sins, the unblemished lamb.
How awesome (as in awe inspiring) is that?

I mean, Jesus didn't want to die. He asked his father, who had came down and proclaimed "This is my son, with whom I am well pleased" but weeks before, to let him live. And his father said nothing. Absolutely nothing. His friends fell asleep on him. He was alone.

He was beaten. Mocked. Spat upon. Publicly humiliated.

He was going to die to save the souls of the very people who demanded his crucifixion.

That's intense. How would you feel if the ones that you loved the most were shouting at the top of their lungs "CRUCIFY HIM! CRUCIFY HIM!"

He was able to stand after that.

Good Friday, to me, is the day which shows God's infinite love for us.

Traditionally, there is a 3:00 PM service where the veneration of the cross takes place.

HOLY SATURDAY

Here in the 21st century, we know that Jesus rises from the dead on Easter Sunday.
But Think of how the disciples/apostles felt on the very first Holy Saturday. That, in my opinion, had to have been one of the greatest tests of faith of all time.

Today, Holy Saturday is home to what I like to call the Pyro-Mass, but is officially called the Easter Vigil. The new Easter Candle is blessed, and at the beginning of mass, parishioners bring light into church by passing along the flame of the Easter candle through individual candles. There's...seven...readings, I think. Catechumans are baptized, Confirmed, and receive the Eucharist for the first time.

It's very exciting.
