Waiting by a river, Hellboy stood looking at his reflection. A chirping sound brought him out of his deep thoughts. Looking up, he noticed Neon running up to him. Neon climbed up onto his partner's back, Hellboy let him, far too used to it by now. "What's wrong? They catch you again?" Hellboy asked. Neon huffed a bit but you could tell he was right by the way the Polkit was hiding behind his friend's head. Neon had thieving paws, Hellboy was trying to teach him not to. "Told you so buddy. Gotta stop doing that."

Ignoring Neon's tiny teeth nipping his left ear he wandered down the bank of the river. It was hard not to be listening to the heavy stomping sound that came whenever he set his stone paw down on the bedrock. It was a spring day, the earth was a bit damp and stones were slippery. The air smelled brand new due to the cleansing power of the rain that fell last night. Hellboy and Neon were wandering like they usually did when the weather was nice enough.

Neon rode his partner's back instead of walking, too anxious. A strange sound had them both perking their ears. Hellboy stopped midstep.
"Did you bring company with you?" Hellboy asked, looking over his shoulder. Someone might be chasing his little friend again. Neon shook his head innocently. They both stopped talking and listened again...

It was the kind of day that Faustine loved, the sun was out and the temperture perfect. She had left her den earlier that morning and was out by the river that wasn't too far from her den, that's when it happened. Her clumsiness struck once more, her impending doom was always around the corner.
Faustine had been admiring the bangles that had adorned her horns when she lost her footing and slipped into the ragging waters. She was being violently tossed around in the water, barely keeping herself above the surface. Each time she rose she let out a loud cry and gasped for water. Hopefully some strong Giet would hear her cry and fish her out of this deathtrap.

Hellboy didn't need to ponder long, he could see her. She was drowning in the river. A green kom' geit struggled against the swift current. She was being dragged in his direction, down the river. He didn't think twice about it, he needed to save her.

He hesitated for just a second, before running over to leap into the water. Neon had leaped off his back just in time and now watched them from the bank nervously. As he feared the stone paw weighed heavy and dragged him under. Kicking up from the bottom of the riverbed he popped up just behind the girl. Grabbing her around the waist with his smaller paw he then turned them around and held her close.
"Hang on."

He was thrown against rocks and his back was taking the brunt of it. "Ow!" He was protecting her from getting hurt, using his body as a shield. Kicking his back legs hard to keep above water despite the weight of his stone paw.

They were being carried down river, farther and farther away from Neon. Hellboy did everything in his power to keep their heads above water. The river was chilly, thank goodness it was summer or the winter's frigid cold might have made swimming all that much harder.
