Because it's something that interests me, I could probably name a few.. but can you? Can you explain the small numbers of girls in punk rock?
I like the devotchkas, bikini kill, jack off jill. Not to mention bands fronted by girls like tsunami bomb or the dresden dolls.
How about you?

I don't know what it is in punk that turns girls off. My friends have grown up to all of them like *gasp* emo, also some metal. I will never know for girls in general, but my friends like rock STARS and there really are no rock STARS in punk. To me that is all the better, but they seem to be fond of idol worship. And barely anybody in my school (I live in a small town) listens to punk and off course they want to be current in their tastes. Plus I think punk is too raw for them. But these are just my friends and have no real bearing to why punk does not attract more women, just why it does not attract my friends.
As for girl-fronted punk bands I like Bikini Kill, Bratmobile, Hole (lol, even though Courtney Love is a ******** up druggie she has a pretty good band), Le Tigre, X-Ray Spex is OK, X is pretty good, and Sleater-Kinney. A few more too that I can't think of because I am tired.

There are a few Ladies in the Punk scene, you just gotta dig alittle to find them.
My Top 3 are
1. Blondie 2. Kim Deal (Pixies, Breeders) 3. And That Chick in Metric......forget her name....

I love bikini kill (and kathleen hannah, the singer, in general), as for hole... at a very young age I was convinced that she was a murder... so some part of me just can't get around that. As for x-ray spex, I'd say they're just ok too. And Sleater-Kinney, is note worthy. I'll make sure to check out brat-mobile, I've been meaning too for some time.

She is one of my all-time greatest heroes, only followed by Mr. T and Henry Rollins. I love her work to bits and pieces. Bratmobile is good. Check it out.

Check it out. Who's Henry Rollins, just out of curiousity? Ex-lead singer of Black Flag, and the one that stayed on longest.. He went on to form the Henry Rollins Band (mediocre). He does some spoken word stuff and he also is an author and an actor. It is a very inspirational story of a rise to glory, as before he was in Black Flag he used to drive an ice cream truck, or something in the ice cream industry.

Something I've noticed, is that there's a shortage of awesome female guitar players. Do you know any?

checkout a small canadian band named "resistance" their bass/lead vocals is so teh hardcore. at a show in medicine hat, she had someone get tossed into the mic and have it smash her nose and she just kept playing till about 3 songs later... blood gushing, she only stopped because she almost passed out. 3nodding
and as far as what "turns girls off" from it... I really can't say, maybe it's the constant game of elitism that most girls who would want to be involved are trying to escape question
I'll be sure to check them out, where are they from? What makes me hesitant, is that a lot of guys I know don't take girl bands seriously. And sees them as having no future. "It'll never work. Do you know any famous all-girl bands? No." Not a very good argumentation, but it makes for closed minds, I think
