((before i begin, this is nick, im using my old account *sigh* memories)) ((this is me trying to make up for my extended absence by fleshing nick out some more)) An empty gin bottle fell to the floor, amongst to many others. The farmhouse was dimly lit by a hanging overhead light, casting a omnious spotlight down on the lonesome table. Nicks head, hair grayer than ever, layed on his arm, draped across the table. His eyes held the glassy look of a person reliving past memories, and the red tinge to his cheeks held the bitter taste of tears. Laying on the table in front of him was a revolver, and six bullets. He picked up the revolver slowly, his hand quite still despite the thoughts coarsing through his mind, and the gin through his body. His other hand snatched up a bullet, the shaft of the bullet clinking quietly against a ring on his ring finger. He loaded the bullet into the firing drum, missing the first time and having to try again with squinted eyes. He spun the drum and swung it into the gun without looking at it. He pulled the barrel up to his chin, putting it just under his jaw. he closed his eyes and pulled the trigger. the dull sound of the firing pin punctuated the beggining of a light rain. *click*

He thought of his childhood, of his father. The man was a drunk, (which aparently runs in the family), and terribly abusive. His sister abigale, though mentally handicapped, would never do anything to upset him, but her exsistence seemed to set him off into a rage. Abigale took to hiding behind nick, though easily twice his size at the time. His father whored abigale out, knowing that she wouldnt be able to tell the police. She died at 16, when nick was 8. The firing pin clicked again. *click*

He thought of his last day of highschool. He had just finished changing out of a football uniform when he heard somthing outside of the school. He quickley dressed and stepped outside. He stopped suddenly, eyes wide in horror. Three of the other football players where kicking a small black boy, barely 13, as he lay helpless on the ground. He caught little glimpses of there joyous shouting, 'Hear him squeel? He's like a little pig!' rang in his ears as fire died out in the boys pleading eyes.

He thought of his squad in the army. At the time he was a sergeant first class, head of his squad. They were seperated from the rest of his platoon, trecking back to camp. A mortar shell hit just five feet from where he was standing. Shrapnel flew in all directions, sparring few. nick and two other people remained unscathed. 20 soldiers died almost instantly, but one more remained. Private Valis fell just next to him, his BDU soaked in blood, a leg completely missing, his left arm completely unrecognizable. His last words where an agony stricken "Oh god, i dont want to die. Dont let me die nick, please." before nick had put a gun to his head and pulled the trigger. Private valis wasnt going to make it back to camp. It was the only humane thing to do, he won a medal for it, a medal he never wore.

Nicks wife was a very very religious woman. She beleived faith would take care of her, and that anything bad that might happen, was simply meant to be. She held this beleif for six years, before dying of heart cancer. In her dying moments she held nick's hand and smiled befor him, before closing her eyes.

Only one shot left, the only chamber the bullet could be in. His finger tightened on the trigger.

He passed out on the table. The box of bullets he had contained 66 bullets, or 11 sets of amunition. one in every hundred thousand bullets, was faulty. of the hundred thousand possible outcomes of that night, this was the only one that involved a faulty bullet.

((The one bullet he used just happened to be defective? Either Goddess Eris REALLY likes him, or REALLY hates him., Either way, She wants him alive.))

(ooc: You had really nice mood going. I knew you weren't going to kill Nick off yet, but no one would have suspected if they didn't roleplay. Really nicely done)
