History:
Born to a selfish mother at the age of 18 after several miscarriages and one abortion, Roxanne was the only child born completely healthy. Her father had been a shell shocked war vet, a 3rd degree black belt in Karate and had subsequently become an abusive alcoholic; couple that with the fact he was 12 years older than Roxanne’s mother, and the whole “relationship” was a recipe for disaster. A hard life of her mother working nights and pawning her off on whoever would take her for however long only became more difficult when Roxanne was 8 and her mother gave birth to a son. Happy to have a younger brother, but unprepared to have a child to take care of at such a young age, Roxanne did what she could, changing her brother’s diapers, feeding him, and comforting him when he woke in the night.
Always excelling in school, it was the young woman’s goal to do her best in school to be able to leave the unstable life behind. Once she reached high school, she began to take on extracurricular activities that allowed her to be gone from 7am until about 7pm daily, ranging from academic things like tutoring and book clubs, to five different sports. Graduating high school a year early, she was all set to move to another city to attend an all female college along with her family, when she received a late acceptance letter from a great university in her hometown. Decision to make between a full scholarship to a college elsewhere and live with her family and taking out loans, but living in her hometown on her own was made quickly and she bid farewell to her beloved brother and lived with a few friends for a few months at a time until she was able to save up enough to move into a place on her own.
Now out of her mother’s home, she was also free to learn about her religion more and joined a synagogue where she quickly became a regular part of the places routine. Working in a gourmet grocery store, she’s rewarded quickly for her good work ethic and promoted to supervisor. As the years go on, Roxanne successfully completes undergrad and is not only about to graduate law school, but also is rumored to be up for another promotion, manager of the front end. In the last 6 years or so, she’s become increasingly disenchanted with the behavior of most people; also getting more frequently sick, a result she thought was of the hard work she was putting volunteering at the synagogue, working on finishing law school, and the effort she was putting in at work.
Recently at the height of her migraines her clothes would begin to sag or her earrings would fall off. Thinking nothing of it at first, considering the intense amount of pain she was usually in, she decided to cut back on some of her time at synagogue and hoped that would cut back on the headaches. Recently while getting off the train to head into work, full blown headache going, a rude man pushed past her on the street by walking near his left side instead of the right like is commonly seen as proper etiquette and, standing her ground, she was surprised to find she wasn’t bumped as hard as she thought she would be and that she was holding what seemed to be pocket change from the gentleman, it dropped through her hand a few seconds later. Startled, Roxanne didn’t even notice her headache had completely disappeared.
Looking back, the man had kept going, so she bent down and picked up the change, quickly making her way to work, and dropped the money off in the first homeless person’s hand she saw. As the days went on between work and school, she would sit down and concentrate more on learning exactly what was happening with her, the clothing and jewelry seeming more important now after this incident. As she began being able to control pushing her hand through small things like clothing or cups, the headaches began to lessen in intensity and frequency. Unsure where these “powers” came from, Roxanne’s only logical explanations are either her father being tested during the war or G-d bestowing powers upon her. Wanting to think it was the latter, but realizing it was more likely the former, Roxanne decided to hone her skills to get rid of her headaches, but to continue life as normally as possible.
