For anime you should try:

Darker Than Black: It's kinda hard to explain what it's about but I can guarantee that you'll like Hei. This one was suggested to me by the same person who suggested Code Geass. Lots of action, some mystery and a Hell Gate.

Black Lagoon: It's gonna sound cheesy, but it isn't. It's about this Japanese businessman that is in charge of protecting a special disk for his company. While transporting the disk, his ship is attacked by modern-day pirates and he is taken hostage. His company declares him dead for being weak enough to get taken hostage and then he ends up joining the pirates. Tons of action, plenty of comedy (though it isn't a comedy), bad-a** gun toting women and one hovership. [This one's quite violent, but very good.]

Black Cat: (24 eps. total)Train Hartnet is one of the top assassins of Chronos, a company that controls most of the world. He is efficent, cold and extremely good at his job. One day he meets a girl. She's a Sweeper (bounty hunter) and she teaches him about friendship, free will and the real purpose for carrying a gun. Needless to say, his employer is not happy when he decides to leave Chronos to make his own way through the world.

Black Blood Brothers: (12 eps. total) A vampire, Jiro, and his very young brother, Kotaro, decide to move to the Special Zone, a city created to legally house both vampires and humans. Unfortunately, before they even make it to the city, their ship is attacked by the world's most efficent Vampire Suppression Squad in the world and their problems only grow from that point on. Humans vs. Vampires, Vampires vs. Badder Vampires and the Silver Blade of the Hong Kong Shock.

I dunno why all of those came out with Black in the title.






For manga try:

07-Ghost: Teased unmercifully for his past as an orphan and a slave, Teito has only his best friend Mikage to ease his days at the elite Barsburg Academy - and his mastery of the magical art of Zaiphon! But even that will not be enough to save him when he discovers a horrifying secret behind the ruling Empire. Trapped in an ancient battle between a wicked God and the Seven Ghosts and guided by three mysterious priests, Teito discovers a power that could save the world... and shed light on his own mysterious past.

Ao no Fuuin: Soko starts feeling sick soon after moving to a new city, apparently for no reason. As beautiful as she is, a lot of guys start to bother her, especially Kashi. While trying to rape her, Kashi disappears and after a few days another guy shows up pretending to be Kashi. And everyone but Soko believes him! He tells her he is Akira the Byakko, from the family of the West. Because she is the reincarnation of Souryo, the queen of the Oni from the family of the East, a monster that eats humans to stay alive, he must destroy her and erase her genes from Earth. He is the only one who can kill her and the one that must do so. Soko is desperate. Is she really a monster? Why does she have human memories? Why does she have to die? Will she be able to change her destiny and stay alive?

Sengoku Strays: Kasane is your average kendo-obsessed girl, when a brush with a mysterious sword sends her back in time to the Sengoku Era. Stuck in an unfamiliar time and place, Kasane also has the poor luck of winding up right in the middle of the turmoil that surrounded Oda Nobunaga's rise to power! (this one only has one chapter released, but it's really good so far)
