Okay guys. I need a computer genius here. A thing called privacy checker appeared out of no where on my computer and won't go away. Does anybody here know how to get rid of it.i would really love to get rid of it, and get my computer back to the way it was before. i have tried everything including rebooting my computer, and a system back up, and that didn't work. can someone please help. this is really stressing me out. I'm willing to give 5k to whoever can help if they know how to get it off. this is in gaia gold. Thank you to anyone who knows how.

First, could you take a screenshot of it? Second, are you using Windows, if so, you can right click on your Task Bar and open Task Manager. Once in task manager, click the Processes tab. The Privacy Checker thing should be listed there, if so, right click on it and choose to Go To Services, to see what its associated with. Then go back to processes and right click on it to choose Open File Location. You want to know where the file is, and what its associated with. Then try ending its process.

Privacy checker sometime occurs if you go through a proxy site. My recommendation is to hit ctrl+alt+delete to pull up the task manager. go to applications and try to close it if that does work try closing processes one at a time till it closes. DO NOT CLOSE iexplore.exe, alg.exe, explorer.exe. anything labeled network service

Question, when in Task Manager under the Applications tab, if you click New Task, can you access your folders? If you can, try relaunching Windows Explore through that. C:/Windows/explorer.exe It sounds to me like the Privacy Checker virus has shut down Explore, but I don't think its the Conficker virus, if it was, then you shouldn't be able to access the internet.

Don't worry about it, I don't need any gold or items, I'm just glad that things are back up and running for you. ^_^ By the way, I also suggest running a virus scan, just to make sure that it doesn't come back. Microsoft's website has one that will confirm a large number of virus threats, including the previously mentioned Conficker virus. Sure, it takes sever minutes to a couple hours, but you know what they say, its better to be safe then sorry. ^_^
