If you haven't, you could download it from www.nethack.org !

It's an old, old game that stole my soul long ago. If you aren't into games that don't have much graphics, then this is not the game for you.. But I'll tell you, there are things in this game you can't do in many others...

Anyways, it's an old "Dungeon's and Dragons" like game, as they call it, with HOURS of entertainment! The point is to descend down this dungeon, get levels, and defeat the Wizard of Yendor for his amulet, which you bring all the way back up to the top, so you can sacrifice it to your deity... I almost beat it, but it is extremely hard at the very end.

Has anyone else played it? If you have, care to tell what your most successful character was?

Mine was a human Wizard named Randalf =D.

I tried to get into it but it's not my kind of game. My friend, though, loves it alot. It's always nice to hear about his Nethack gamings lol.

Loved it. I wasted so much time on it years ago. Long before there was WoW addiction causing problems and making papers, there was lovely roguelike games...

Favorites were chaotic elven archer and neutral priestess.

It's like D & D, but a solitaire version.
WoW might be based in part off of it.

Aye, you choose your class, race, gender, and sometimes your alignment (chaotic, neutral, or evil) and set off to find your teacher/master after you get somewhat experience (level 12 I think). After you help/save your master/teacher, you are sent to kill the Wizard of Yendor and take his amulet. You then go back all the way up to the top of the dungeon and BEYOND! Where you will eventually try to find the alter for your alignment and sacrifice the amulet, and then you win.

It is a very hard game though, when you die, your saved file is deleted(Unless you copy it, heh heh heh), but it keeps a record of all characters and sometimes keeps "bones" files, which can mean you can have another character stumble upon the grave of that adventurer(usually on the same floor of where they died) and find some of his/her old possessions(but they are usually cursed).

For being of quite lousy graphics, it is yet one of the most complex games I have ever played.
