In the beginning there were the Heavens, occupied by two goddesses, Sellenna and Tamora. For the longest time they lived in peace with each other, each occupying on half of the Heavens. Then, one day they bot got greedy and tried to take each other's half of the Heavens. A great battle was fought between the armies conjured up by the goddesses, raging for a hundred days and nights. Blood poured from the Heavens, creating the oceans. Bodies followed, creating the land. Stray magic thrown by the goddesses created the plants. Finally, the battle ended when Sellenna slew Tamora. Looking down at the corpse of her foe, she saw that a world had been created under the Heavens during the battle. She decided to fill it with people and wildlife so that she could rule over it. She took those people that pleased her the most and created gods and goddesses, to that she could use them to help her control her domain.
Sellenna was a very cruel ruler, causing pain and suffering among man for simple amusement. Eventually her gods and goddesses championed the cause of the people and threw Sellenna from her thrown down into the depths of the world. Enraged beyond all measure, she unleashed a curse as she fell from grace, so that the precious men the gods and goddesses loved so much would be doomed to wither and die over time.
Having taken down Sellenna, the gods now had to decide what to do with the world. During Sellenna's rule there had been four seasons, called Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn. However, these seasons were poorly defined and whole-heartedly random, often changing in the middle of the day in a drastic manner. This in turn made growing crops and predicting weather impossible, causing much grief. So the gods and goddesses decided that one season should rule, so that weather would be predictable.
However, they could not agree on which one. They split into four courts, the Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn, and argued the matter for a hundred days and nights, to no avail. On the hundredth day a young boy exploring the woods came across the bickering gods and goddesses and sat down to watch. Eventually he thought up a solution to their problem and spoke up to share this idea with the gods and goddesses. The gods and goddesses, who had been unaware of his presence until then, were somewhat surprised to see a boy in their midst, but let the child say his piece.
The boy suggested that the gods and goddesses of the Spring court should rule for a hundred days and nights, then give up their power to the Summer court, which would rule for a hundred days and nights as well. Then Autumn would get a hundred days and nights, and Winter after. At this point Spring would rule again, and the cycle would repeat itself for all time. The hundred days and nights in which a court ruled would be the seasons, Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn, and the four hundred days and nights it takes for all four courts to have a turn at wielding power, starting with the beginning of Spring's reign, would be called a year. The gods and goddesses all agreed that this was an excellent solution, and so it was implemented, forming the world as we know it.
