Sable Library:

User Image

The library is a stone building made around the time of the genesis of Sable. At the top of the short flight of stairs in the front of the building is a pair of reinforced double doors. Above the doors is a large stained glass gothic arch window depicting a vampire to vampire murder. Gargoyles line the greened copper roof, guarding the knowledge hoarded away in the stone building.

Upon entering the building, there is a receptionist desk with a dorky young vampire with ruffled clothing and a loose red necktie behind it. His voice cracks as he greets you, "Hello! I'm Nethan. I'm the librarian here." He adjusts his glasses and continues. "The library of Sable is home to much knowledge. Lore from all over the world finds a place in the dusty shelves. The books here answer any question you may have. and if you'd got a question, I can definitely answer it for you. You may be wondering.. what is a lycan? Why is there a royal family? How did Sable come to be? How is the balance kept? What happens if the scales are tipped? All these questions are answered within the books here at the Sable Library."

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do humans need to donate blood?

Blood is precious because vampires literally cannot live without it. However, vampires can only feast on human blood. Lycan blood is contaminated and is therefore unhealthy for vampire consumption. The downside to this is that humans can only produce so much blood at a given time without dying. This is why there is a limit to how much blood a human can donate, and how much a vampire can withdraw from the Blood Bank.

How much blood does a vampire need to survive?

A vampire is able to drink up to a pint a day. However, research has shown that if a vampire drinks about a pint a month, they are able to sustain their body and have reduced cravings for blood.

How to Marks of Protection Work?

Marks of Protection are given to humans that donate blood at the blood bank. On the inside of their wrist, they're given a lasting mark. This mark means that the human is protected and cannot be fed upon. However, the mark has a duration of 60 days, by which time the human is urged to donate at the Blood Bank and once again be marked for protection.

What's the difference between a vampire and a half-breed vampire?

Full blooded vampires have a severe allergy to the suns radiation, causing them to burn rapidly. They also have very impressive longevity. Half-breeds don't have such a severe allergy to the sun, but they do share the craving for blood, though their need for it is reduced. Half-breed vampires do not share the vampiric longevity and have the same lifespan as a human.

What's the difference between a lycan and a half-breed lycan?

Lycans are able to control their shape shifting, and turn into larger versions of wolves and have impressive longevity. However, half-breeds look more human in their transformations and transform at either stressful times or under the effects of a moon and have the average lifespan of a human.

What is an imp?

'Imp' is a shorter term for impure, a derogatory term for half-breeds.

Why aren't races allowed into each others sectors?

It's a law set up by the elders at the creating of Sable. It's to prevent any conflict. Each sector is, in effect, it's own self sustaining city.

The Chaos: The Time Before Sable

Long ago, the night was pure chaos. There was constant war between the three races: humans, vampires, and the lycans. The blood of millions of soldiers and innocents were spilled onto the earth for control.

The wars began between the vampires and the humans. The humans feared for their lives as vampires forced them to live in fear for their lives and well-being. The vampires always had a superiority complex over the humans, claiming the humans as cattle and prey. They'd herd the humans into caves and butcher them for a few pints of their blood.

Over the years, the humans became more courageous. Mobs would attack the vampires as they slept when the sun was awake, for vampires have an allergy to sunlight. This enraged the vampires to no end. The vampires began to catch wild animals and forced them to protect the vampires as they slumbered.

The caged wild beasts did their job well. However, the vampires caught a particularly nasty wolf to protect the head of their clan. When the humans attacked, this wolf bit and leaked its diseased drool into the wounds of these humans. The humans retreated and tended their wounds. Nights after this attack, the infected humans began to change. The full moon brought out their lunacy and thus were born the first lycans.

The humans and lycans worked together to rid the night of the vampires. After a few bloody battles, the vampires numbers were falling. In this time of desperation, vampires began to take humans to their beds. This resulted in crossbreeds of humans and vampires, impure creatures of the night like their blood drinking parent, but with the flaws and benefits of both parents.

The lycans took a similar step in attempt to keep ahead of the vampires. The resulting half breeds resulted in what we view today as werewolves. Standing as a human, but with the visage of a wolf. The humans were back to being the victims. The vampires were interbreeding and hunting them, and the lycans were using them to keep their numbers up.

As the half breeds began to come of age for battling, the pure bloods noticed that they aren't as effective as they believed and began to disown, shun and slay the impures.

The war between the races comes to be known as The Chaos.

Genesis of Sable: Building the city of Night

During The Chaos, millions died to gain control over the night. Lycans and vampires used humans for their own needs, and treated the impures as expendable troops. This war was the bloodiest time ever seen on this part of the world.

The Chaos has been fought for a century before talk of peace was uttered by either lycan or vampire. Humans have begged and pleaded for their freedom, for their lives for the entirety of the war. All numbers were falling low, despite the heavy breeding. Soldiers were dying faster than they could be born. It was Taerx Vitoris, a vampire general, that began to do something about ending the war.

Taerx knew he couldn't stop the war alone, so he sent out messengers of peace to the generals of other races claiming that if the fighting did not stop, then there would be no one to rule the night. This slowed the bloodshed, though the war continued on.

Another vampire general, Derin Frawn, has an insatiable blood lust. Derin had a plan to wipe out the impures and lycans in a quick blow to their hearts by slaughtering the heads of these clans in a single night. Taerx caught wind and knew he had to do something. Before the battle, Taerx met with Derin at the front of the army, the mob of soldiers ready to strike. Taerx warned Derin that if he were to attack, he would die that very night. An evil laugh echoed from Derins throat claiming that no dog or mortal could touch him, and yelled out for the charge.

Before Derins voice could finish the charge call, Taerx slit the generals throat, and in the same motion, pierced Derins heart. Kicking Derin off his blade, the general called out, "This will be the last death of this chaos!"

Taerx gave an inspirational speech of how all of the races can live in harmony and all can control the night together. He and the heads of each race gathered together and decided to build a city of the night, Sable. They all decided upon laws and once the laws were all voted upon, were carved on the 4 sides of an obsidian obelisk and had it erected. That obelisk became the collective heart of the creatures of the night. Lycans, impures, vampires and even humans.

No more slavery, no more bondage, no more bloodshed.

Legend of the Fave Black Rose
Dictated by Cavere Fave
Documented by Nethan Tabis

Nearly 100 years ago, a witch by the name of "Magarth Fave", who made her living transforming anything living into something extraordinary, used to own "The Black Rose Flower Shoppe" in Center Sable. She was a woman who had no emotion and only cared to talk about her business and accomplishments. One day, on the first of August, a woman walked into her shop, not believing in the old witch's abilities. The woman gave Magarth a simple red rose telling her to give it emotion. Everyday the woman came back to check on the rose, and everyday it became a different color. On the fifth of August, the woman walked in and found Magarth Fave on the ground murdered andthe body had been moved over to the rose. Magarth's 9 year-old daughter, who lived in the back room with her mother, had seen the entire thing. The girl cried over her mother's body, as did the rose. The red rose became black, and water droplets fell from the petals of the flower, much like a tear. Margarth Fave was buried that very day with a seed from the one and only black rose, planted on her grave site. For months, the woman came back with the daughter, wondering if the rose was ever going to grow. A year passed, and on that day, the woman had taken Magarth's daughter back to the site, and discovered the black rose in full bloom. The daughter gathered the black rose quickly, took it back to the shop she had inherited, and put it away so that no one would take it away from her. Since then, the black rose has bloomed on Magarth's Fave's grave site and only Margarth's bloodline has been able to house the rose without it dying immediately.

Currently, there are only ten of these roses in existence. They are said to be hidden within the "The Black Rose Flower Shoppe", carefully guarded by Cavere Fave. She claims that the rose will 'cry' when something sad or horrible happens within its sight by bringing the water up from it's roots and shedding the droplets from its petals. It will also bloom to it's full size when someone nearby is smiling or feeling happy. This doesn't happen that often with the Fave family as most of the Fave bloodline share a lack of excitement. The only warning that the family gives to the public is that the rose must never be around people that are arguing or it will die instantly.
