Just a little fun idea.
Every week or whatever we choose a new car and budget.
And the idea is search the internet for stuff you'd put in and on, your car to make it yours. This inculdes wheels (with pics) paint and body kits, engine mods and stereo equipement and all.

This weeks car is a 1992 BMW 535i (E34)

And the budget for this weeks fantasy car is $10 000US.

At the end of the week, we all vote to see who spent thier money the best, and the winner gets to pick next weeks car. smile

Ok folks, here are some additional rules to the build off.
This weeks car has to be street legal, and must be able to seat four passangers comfortably.
It has a 3.4L SOHC engine, 2 valves per cylinder, 12 valves in total.
This very car, at the dyno produces just under 190HP with a tune up. And the previous owner bought the car new fully loaded, sunroof and leather all round. However the leather is cracking quite badly on the front driver seat.
It also has a limited slip diff and a 5 speed manual gearbox.

******** I actually picked a real ******** of a car and engine. Sorry guys sweatdrop

Here's what I've got for body and exterior.

And I'm estimating that $1000 should do to spray the car black.
I'm also estimating that $500 should cover getting the front seats re-done.

Here's the body kit otherwise.

Haha, it's cool. I'd never buy anything from Andy's, but they have tons of stuff to browse for ideas.

I like that kit and those wheels, I really didn't even look for a kit since it was a Beamer.

Right, lets see how far $10,000 USD gets us over here in Oz. Its basically $14,518.00 AUD so with that,

Brief: The 5-series is a heavy chassis and so not very suitable for racing or drift. The 3-series still has the best suspension as well as body so the most sensible course of action when dealing with the E34 is a light street/family car. its interior is HUGE and there is ample boot space. Insulation is okay, not SPL-winning good, but better than most. So lets see what 14.5K can get us by way of a light-tune street car here in Australia. SO. Basically, we don't need the sheer component quality of a race car because this thing won't see anywhere near those loads and stresses. So we can go second best. For everything except the engine management. Thus we get(and I'll assume that the vehicle colour is the same as in the pic)

Wheels:

-Lavinhard Fin7 wheels, 18" ~$1500, second hand + $420 refinishing/touch-up/re-squaring bead

-Bridgestone Adrenalin tyres(RE001) ~$1528 + fitment and balancing

Suspension & brakes:

- Konig coilover kit, complete ~$934

-EBC Green Stuff pads & DBA road rotors(slotted, all 4 wheels) ~$1740 w/fluid change to Castrol SRF

-Precision alignment, 4-wheels, fast road ~$320 w/report

Engine:

-Motec M4 computer ~$1950, fitment and tuned to meet road-legal emmisions standards ~$530

-K&N panel filter for stock airbox ~$140(Autobarn) and DIY airbox/plenum modification with the appropriate bellmouths for ~$50(I have a few carbon and alloy bellmouths left over from a Uni project, and at 4" they'll feed the engine pretty well) I have access to a welder and also the appropriate bonding compounds to attach the bellmouths inside the plenum, so no issue cutting it in half, doing the job and re-welding

-Custom headers, stainless steel, tuned length(own spec) ~$1400

-High flow cat ~$320

-Leave about $600 for plugs, oil, general service materials and labour costs at a certified BMW Master Technician's.

Done. Road legal, quiet, COMFORTABLE, more torque, and looks not too suspicious. Just right for a daily driver and a spirited family outing(the missus would have my balls if it got too loud and turned into a damned missile)

OH MY GOD, I think I have a headache now. I wish I had the patience to go through with my ideas sweatdrop stressed
PostPosted: Sat Mar 21, 2009 4:54 pm

I think we may need to either lower the budget, or enter a newer car. Because with that generation, and with that kind of money, I'd do this. Notice that I'm not cheating since I'm staying with the E34, but with the mod money, I'd do that and sell the original car I started out with and let Frivolouz have his way with the interior.

M8 with what Friv might do to the audio and interior with that kind of money, your head might explode the moment you start playing drum and bass. rofl

I don't know. The $10,000 for mods would be spent on the M5 I linked to, while I sell the starting car that Panda gave us. Not sure what the starting car would net me after I sold it, but I'm guessing maybe around $4,000. I'm sure he can do enough with that to make the interior decent.
PostPosted: Fri Mar 27, 2009 4:19 am

I think then we need to pick a new car and new budget for this week?

Mille I would vote for your idea, because its probably what I would do. I was looking for a wrecked m5 to make a m5 replica, but alas no luck on the net.

Otherwise I'd give my vote to Joey, and then buy the body kit anyways.
