Okay, so I admit that one of my worlds, Astarath, was inspired by a song. One of the cultures in my TomK plotline (the Kresari), were inspired by the Romani. And I'm thinking of, just for fun, going and finding some random thing to base either a world or some aspect of a world on.
So what inspires you?

Biology. A disturbingly large amount of things I make come from me drawing something and then brainstorming about what about its environment would make it look like that... Yanno, what it eats, how it moves, is in nocturnal, ect.
Other then that, I get ideas from investigating. Investigating this, investigating that. General investigating. Guess the obscure reference!

Little wonders in nature. If anything strikes me as wonderful, I tend to replicate it more plentiful in my worlds. If it's beautiful or strange, even if it's completely alien, I populate my worlds with it so that I can see it some more.
Otherwise I generally start with a concept, eg. deconstructing fantasy characters or genetic modifying drugs, and then build the world up around that using those rules to determine specifics.

Usually I find my inspiration on encyclopedias, actually. Or maybe in history or fiction books... When I see something interesting about anything, I tend to put it in my worlds. sweatdrop

Most of my inspiration comes from random things I come across in classes, unless the class in question is Intro to Latin American Studies, in which case the whole course counts for inspiration. smile

My own world was Inspired by Dark Moor's song The Dark Moor. It's is awesome. I was thinking of a place where there was no sun, maybe the moon, then I thought of how such a world would work, and then I thought that maybe there would be a Day side too and it when on and on and on and on....

This'n that. Take a scenario or idea from good ol' Earth and put it through the "what-if" machine, see where it takes me.
And I also had a thing for dragons as a child, but that somehow became soft sci-fi.
Oh hey guys, guess I'm backish now.
