I am looking for a starting for my sci-fi story I am working on.
This story is focusing a group of soldiers on the planet Ruatan, the planet of Ruatan is a terrestrial planet that is covered with dense jungles, the population of Ruatan is 35,000 citizens. Many of the habitants of this planet are military personnel, Research and Development scientists, and other essential employees.
Ruatan serves as a military outpost and stop off point for various cargo vessels and other space craft.
It is known that an alien race known as the Phijir i. The Phijiri are a technologically advanced race who are currently at war with the human race after a Phijiri planet was destroyed by a series of Asteroid impacts destroyed the planet and the Phijiri accussed the humans of unleashing a powerful weapon on the planet and destroying it.
A large amount of humans live in orbiting colonies, while others are inhabiting other planets to allow docking and loading of various transport and cargo craft.
Would anyone be able to help me out?

I am seeking a way to start this story..I have many ideas as to what is going to happen in this story, but its just the starting I am having trouble, I have my paper and pen here, but its just I get out of the starting gate....

I am seeking a way to start this story..I have many ideas as to what is going to happen in this story, but its just the starting I am having trouble, I have my paper and pen here, but its just I get out of the starting gate.... You don't have to write it in order. : D Just start writing a particular scene, don't worry about editing yet, and let it flow. You can worry about the beginning later.

I completely agree. I started my story as a senior in high school for a medieval romance project (medieval romance as a genre, not necessarily a love story) and only realized about a year ago that the part of the story I had written for that specific project would work better toward the middle of the story. I hadn't figured out the details of the beginning of the novel itself until earlier this year. So don't fret about starting at the beginning: inspiration comes in many forms and orders. Just start writing and edit the details later to fit!

Another thing I do is start with a description of the outlying landscape and then bring it in to the characters and the matter at hand. The setting sometimes gives me ideas about what should be going on at the time. Then, if I have more of an idea of what I want to eventually happen, it's a lot easier to segue into the action.
